Blocking TE. I wouldn’t expect us to sign any sexy pass first type TE.

That beast of a blocking TE from Georgia would be an interesting pick for us if he is still there in 2nd round.

Very big news, he's starting material and our defense's "6th man". I hope he retires a Dolphin someday- love seeing homegrown talent stick around.

Does this signing (a) help us? And (b) - more importantly - hurt the Jests?

It is what it is.. the guy started one game last season and had something over 300 yards.. in an offense where Kittle excels on for the 49ers. He obviously isnt a fit. And hes not that special of a player either..

Had some massive drops against Buffalo in the playoffs that costed us too.

He can't block and wasn't a good fit in our offense. He had some big plays from time to time but we need a good blocker more than a glorified wr.

Patriots recreating the 2020 Dolphins offense sounds good to me

Thing is, what offence does he fit? He was massively over rated by Dolphins fans.

What team has scheme for a TE that can't block, can't get off the line, can't separate and produces no yac? He's a redzone threat for jump balls but $9M per year is a big overpay.

Yea i am shocked he got that money honestly.. hes a backup tight end at best.. patriots are likely going to convert him to a full time slot receiver which is what he probably should be at.

Yeah, because that's what he actually is. Just because we draft a guy at TE, taking 3/4 of his snaps over multiple seasons at slot receiver says he's a slot receiver. Then there's the part where Gisecki called himself a slot receiver too, LOL.

They win the off-season every year. Just need everyone to stay healthy now and it will translate into real success.

Theres a lot of miss information on Jalen Ramsay’s game that is trying to taint the player because he gave up some plays on national tv

If you look at the totality of his game the past two years, every rep, every measure, every metric.

The man is in his prime and is an elite Corner.

Travis on his podcast did a thorough analysis of metrics on this player where he was #1 in some very important ways that are relative to the corner position..

When I watch him last year I can see he’s playing some out of phase technique which he sometimes gets beat on and I think that’s where this silly narrative comes from.

That has absolutely nothing to do with diminishing skills, Fangio just needs to coach him on when and how much can you use that technique.

This should be as big as impact player to our defense as Hill was to our offense

When I watched his games last year I thought, wow he gets beat a lot for someone supposed to be so great. However, he could have been trying to cover up for other issues going on. Not will to give up on him or claim he is a bad or anything. Looking forward to the defense next year.

If they have that little confidence in AJ, why haven’t they brought in any competition for RT?

This is something I’ve been SCREAMING for since Tua’s full season debut in 2021. For a left handed quarterback, it’s the RIGHT tackle to protects his blindside, not the LT.

While I’m thrilled we have Armstead, I want another “Armstead” on the right side of the line but instead of an Armstead, we have a Bumstead

Maybe it’s just ME but if Fangio is indeed that incredible of a defensive coach (which I believe he is), if I was on the current defensive roster, there isn’t anywhere else I would want to be.

If “you” make me a STAR, the money is going to be there…who knows, like a good neighbor State Farm is there

Exactly. Last year proved that we need better depth at OL, but you’ve gotta have five solid starters to back up. Signing 25 journeymen isn’t going to equal a second starting caliber guard and a right tackle.

AVG is returning. Why was I thinking he'd already signed somewhere else? I like this almost as much as I'd appreciate a "splash" FA signing.

I hate this "bring in competition" thing. How about we bring in a solid starter for once?

There's nothing wrong with "competition" per say but you need to have someone competing against a solid starter to elevate that second stringer's game. There's no doubt that Armstead is our starting LT but if there is backup who REALLY wants to start ahead of him, he's going to have to step up his game to have a shot. That's only going to make the OL better overall.

If the OL is only ever average, you're always going to be limited to what you can do offensively.

One thing to keep in mind here is that bringing in new pieces and parts every season actually hurts the offensive line more than it helps. Sure, maybe we land on 5 studs through the draft and free agency. But then they have to learn to function as a single unit, to have each other's back and learn each person's strengths and weaknesses out there. Yet in game 2, the LT goes down for three weeks. The RG is still playing but his shoulder is shot, and the RT has a hamstring issue so he can't pull on some plays. The team gets to the end of the season and it turns out your starting offensive line was only together on the field for three games total.

It is never about having five stud linemen and you're set. It's about having a few studs, then 6 or 7 solid players that can play multiple positions while staying healthy. It really is a team effort and one weak link sinks the ship. Also keep in mind that these are 300+ pound men who are exploding off the ball and lighting someone up 50+ times every Sunday, then hundreds of additional times in practice each week. Injuries are going to happen, there's no way around that.

That stinks, but I agree with that assessment. He played well in college but never got his full strength back after the surgery to save his sister. And instead of bettering his technique to compensate, he simply got worse and started taking shortcuts that don't work in the NFL. His form is horrible. His instincts are off. He's just not on the level of a starting NFL tackle.

Could he get there? I'd have to work with him to know for sure. But if Miami's not taking the 5th year option, then that tells me all I really need to know. I wouldn't call him a bust, but he's not a real option either.
