The Texans have signed free agent center Michael Deiter on a one-year deal, the team announced Tuesday. Deiter, 26, played all 17 games last season with the Dolphins but only on special teams. He played 76 snaps.

The Dolphins made Deiter a third-round draft selection in 2019, and he spent four seasons in Miami. He has started 23 career games, while appearing in 57. In 2021, Deiter played every snap in eight games before landing on injured reserve. He has experience at tackle, guard and center in his college and pro career.

Wow seriously while he wasn’t a pro bowler we are now weaker on paper in depth this is my biggest concern as I have been botching about the oline for a while now when are they going to address it?? And do not tell me in the draft we have no picks thanks to mismanagement (when I say none I mean any that will find a plug and play player)

Grier's philosophy seems to be we dont need an oline. He is all about skill positions.

I mean, while I think we are still far from settled at LG/RT, letting Deiter go doesn't really feel like a negative. He was pretty much a non-factor here, and it's likely Dan Feeney takes that slot. We also have like 3-4 guys competing for RT, who may also compete for LG as well.

He needs to change that philosophy quick.. because it dont matter if its Tua, Brady, or Mahomes.. no quarterback will survive a bad offensive line.. i have huge concerns about the right side of our line which is Tua’s blindspot..

I have been complaining about the OL ever since we drafted Tannehill. Hitman is right, Grier is more concerned about still positions than anything else.

That’s like building a house and being more concerned about the doors and windows and even the roof and not caring about the foundation at all.

I think there has been a number of us here that are pretty vocal about Grier and his staffs inability to draft offensive linemen outside of sure things. On top of that it just has never seemed to be a priority position group for him and I don't understand why. You can have all the shiny stuff you want at the skill positions but if the line can't open holes or hold a block the shiny things are all worthless.

That’s the frustrating thing about all of this. If it was 1 or 2 misses in drafted OL, or a FA signing that didn’t work out, that would be one thing, and understandable - not every move is a home run. To basically ignore the most important position group in the sport is inexcusable, but also impossible to understand. He has heard the questions and comments, yet refuses to change his philosophy. Last offseason, he made a big splash signing Armstead who, while he was the best OL available in FA, he is injury prone and is a LEFT tackle, when the most important part of the line protecting a lefty is the RIGHT tackle.

I just don’t get it. Maybe we need an assistant GM who just deals with the OL.
