According to multiple reports, Mike Gesicki has agreed to sign with New England. Gesicki, who was No. 46 on PFT’s list of the top free agents, has agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $9 million.

It’s the second straight one-year pact for Gesicki as he played out his final season with the Dolphins while on the franchise tag. He appeared in every game for Miami, but saw his role change in Mike McDaniel’s offense and he dropped from 73 catches for 780 yards to 32 catches for 362 yards last season.

He did catch five touchdowns in the regular season and one more in the playoffs, so he could be put to use as a red zone target by the Patriots. The Patriots traded Jonnu Smith to the Falcons, so Gesicki and Hunter Henry are set to be the top tight ends in New England this year.

I always hate when Dolphins go to the Patriots. Parker hasn’t made that big of an impact, not like Wes Welker did. It’ll be interesting to see what become of Gisecki.

Just told my wife we lost Gisecki. Her response?

    WHAAAAAAAAAAAT???

Told her we lost him to the Patriots, she said that’s just as wrong as two teenaged boys tongue kissing in a cold shower.

    God I love this woman!!!!

I'm as scared of Gisecki on New England as I was about Parker. Not at all. I think it would be great if they won like 5-6 games. Few enough to have a garbage season but enough wins to keep them out of the top few picks.

Well, of course he goes to New England. Doesn't matter, they don't have a quarterback.

Why sign Geisiki when Hunter Henry is the same slot receiver type TE ?

If he could block he would still be here.

This worries me much more than having Devante Parker sign with the Pats. Maybe a 1 on the 1-10 scale.

He made some nice plays for us, but he had too many stretches of not doing much.

My only concern is that he was the best TE on our roster, so replacing him becomes a priority.

    He's not a tight end.

You can replace him with just about anyone on the vet minimum and get the same production.. 360 yards, no blocking ability in 17 games played.. can be had by any free agent tight end..

Still shocking to me he was able to get 9 million.. that is one badass agent he has

You notice I didn’t suggest replacing him would be hard, just that it’s a priority.

Dalton Shultz is still out there…haven’t heard much in the way of rumors about him to anyone so far.

He has bad hands. He dropped too many balls in crucial situations. It seems his numbers are good, but garbage time catches don’t count that much. He’s not clutch IMO.

Dalton Shultz is available still.. not sure how good his run blocking is but he looks stronger than Gesicki

Got exactly what I thought on the open market.

    He had no market

One dimensional player third or fourth receiver role

Schultz signed with the Texans, so that option is off the table. Still looking for someone to play the George Kittle role in this offense.

Will need to find him in the draft, we aren't paying $9M a year for a TE in this offence.

I truly hate this move. I know there are some of my homies here who do not like him and that's cool. It's just that it isn't making Grier look good to praise Gesicki. It should be widely known here that I despise Grier and want him far away from this franchise. See? he's done enough. He's royally f'd up enough to deem him a complete disaster of a GM. However, even the worst of GMs will have some hits. I mean, if you throw enough s--t at the wall, some is bound to stick. (eww).

Gesicki is not just another guy, he is a physical freak of nature.
He's what?..6-7 and has the wing span of a terradactyl. How many sick one handed grabs has he made? He has that go up and get it ability which is so vital, imo.

See? ..with a guy like Gesicki, the QB doesn't always have to be so pin point accurate, just trow it up to a spot and he will go up and get it. We've seen that many times.

When Fitzy started playing, he knew how to use to Gesicki and even Parker, though Parker was always injured. He would throw it up to a spot and Gesicki would always get it with some sick grab.

I have actually seen Gesicki, more than once, gp up and reach in front of the defender to get the ball of at least deflect it away from being picked. That was insane!

We know that the great coaches always say that you fit your scheme fit your players or strengths. Well? That's what should be done with a talent like Gesicki. I don't give a s--t if you call him a slot receiver, just get him on the field and get him the damn ball. He's made many a vital catch in his time. Guys who are tall and slimmer are never going to great blockers. It's tough to bend to get low enough to get the best leverage on the defender.

There's a reason that just about every ex coach and ex player/sports media guy praises Gesicki.

I like this staff so far. I just hate this move, but it is what it is.....rock on mofo'ers!

Dude, stop drinking when you post

I love Gisecki. I REALLY do, but as a TE in THIS offense, he’s a square peg in a round hole. The zone run offense under McDaniel requires a TE that can truly block and we all know that’s NOT Gisecki’s forte. He’s another receiver, nothing more.

Had Gisecki gone to any other team other than a division rival, I’d be cheering and rooting for him but since he went to NE, I hope he falls flat on his face.

Man, you do know our team is one of the most talented young rosters in the game ??

Gesicki is a one trick pony always has always will be..

Tha market showed you his worth

About 4 mill one year deal

Sounds exactly right for a third fourth receiver
