You're exactly right. Defense was the only reason he got a ring. That was one of the best defenses of all-time. Peter Boulware, Ray Lewis, Jamie Sharper, Sam Adams, Rod Woodson, Tony Siragusa, Chris McAlister, the list goes on. They even shutout the Giants in the Superbowl.

On a sidenote. Do you guys remember when he forbade his players to say the playoffs or as he liked to call it, the "P" word? He even fined Siragusa for saying it in an interview. They started to refer to the playoffs as "Festivus" to avoid violating his rule. Pretty comical if you ask me.
