It has no bearing on his football performance.

It's just another tool Tua doesn't have.

That doesn't relate to football performance, if we were to seriously entertain it.

Its proven to be an invalid criticism.

Of course it relates. It more relates if you score really low.

How many QBs that scored 15 or lower were successful? You'd have to break down the data far more. Intelligence always matters.

The abstract basically says the test doesn't show consistent evidence of the intelligence of the test taker.

Also, you have no proof Tua having a low IQ.

But I'll even go further. I literally requested the full article from one of the researchers. If it comes, I'll post it here.

Just because tua put up some great deep ball stats this year, doesnt mean he is actually a great deep ball thrower. It just means he has two great speedters that can quickly get open deep and get enough separation that it doesnt matter if they have to stop and wait for the ball 9 times out of 10.

Just because tua put up some nice stats this year with a not so great oline, doesnt mean he is acually good at handling pressure, buying time, extending plays and making great throws under pressure and throwing off platform. It just means mcdaniel put together a quick hitting scheme and got some great weapons that can get open quickly.

And just because Tua put up some elite stats during the weak part of our schedule, doesnt mean he is now actually an elite feanchise QB.

It's amazing how Tuanon just points to stats and completely ignores the context that Tua actually lost the last 4 games he started for us last season, 3 of which he played terrible in, and then missed the last two games of the season with injury (again).

How Tua can end the season on that note and still be talked about here as our franchise QB is delusional talk to me.

Per YOUR study it states, "was most strongly associated with overall intellectual functioning, as measured by the Woodcock-Johnson Standard Battery IQ score."

So yes, it does have a strong correlation to IQ, and therefore Tua's IQ is low.

    Google search. First two statements.

Basically, Wonderlic Test reflects your intelligence level under a strict circumstance.

Because the IQ and the Wonderlic are similar but separate tests there is no way to determine your Wonderlic score based on your IQ score, or vice versa.

"Potential" franchise QB. That's why I keep saying let 2023 decide. Don't be so certain your evaluation is right. It often isn't.

That doesn't mean what you think it does. It's saying you can't determine the exact IQ score based on a Wonderlic test which is accurate. However, that's not saying there isn't a large correlation between the two which is what your study stated. So low Wonderlic, results in low IQ.

So if it's 6 days they can't change but if it's seven days, which it typical for the NFL, they can? That one day is the key to making any change??? What about half time adjustments that are seen all the time?

Does anyone else believe self awareness and ability to communicate are traits of intellect?

Harvard professor told me so :)

Thank God Marino had Duper and Clayton and was coached by Shula otherwise he would have sucked big time. His talent had no bearing on his numbers.
( This is how to address the absurdity that gets thrown around here on a daily basis. Laugh it off, treat the attention seeking trolls for what they are, and move on. They are quite comical though, I gotta say).

Steve McNair, Dan Marino, Donovan McNabb, Jim Kelly, Terry Bradshaw and Randall Cunningham all scored 15 on the Wonderlic. I'd say that's a pretty nice list of successful QBs including several HOFs.

Nice list, but only one of those QBs ever won a superbowl, and none of them had the physical limitations and durability issues Tua has. They all had great arms and and other physical traits that made up for their lack of smarts.

Here are the things you stated as facts but don't really know:

    1. Tua scored a 13 the first time
    2. Tua scored a 19 the second time
    3. Tua got prepped between the two
    4. Tua took the test seriously
    5. There isn't any other explanation for the low scores (bad test taker, bad day, his intelligence manifests in other ways)
    6. All low scores mean low IQs, every time

Once again, you have an agenda and by God you're going to push it.....

This is the other part that proves it is all an agenda. The wonderlic is supposed to help predict if a player can make the transition from the college game to the pro game. Talking about it AFTER a QB has led the league in passer rating is stupid.

Only one QB on that list won a super bowl but every QB with the exception of Cunningham made it to at least one super bowl. Here are some of the highest scores for QBs:
    • 48 - Ryan Fitzpatrick, Greg McElroy
    • 42 - Blaine Gabbert
    • 40 - Alex Smith
    • 39 - Eli Manning
    • 38 - Colin Kaepernick, Matt Flynn, Matthew Stafford
    • 37 - Tony Romo, Andrew Luck
    • 35 - Aaron Rodgers, Matt Leinart, Sam Bradford, Christina Ponder

With the exception of Luck, Manning, Rodgers and Romo not necessarily a whos who of QB talent. Speaking of Manning, Eli scored a 39 while Peyton scored a 28. Are you going to tell me Eli was the smarter football palyer?

So maybe the Wonderlic doesn't test intelligence or at least football acumen the way you think it does.

I'm not sure that would prove anything as their lack of success could be attributed to other factors. What that list proves is that a low wonderlic score is not a barrier to success in the NFL.

    I would never say it's a barrier but it's a hurdle.

Being smart would never hold you back, unless of course you aren't dedicated to the sport. However, having a low IQ could hurt you. For example you could have trouble understanding and learning the playbook.

Arguing about a test they don't even give players anymore. There is no reason to argue about whether it matters because obviously it doesn't.

But he didn't reply to they only had 6 days instead of 7 to change the defense post. Or the part about why they can make changes at halftime and be successful when they only has like 30 minutes.

They didn't know it was not a good predictor of QB success until long after it was widely used in the NFL. The Wonderlic wasn't created for the NFL or for sports. It was meant to measure problem solving ability for a range of occupations. People just adopted it for the NFL instead of going through the much longer process of creating a more appropriate aptitude test for the NFL — it takes a lot of work to develop a new test and validate it for the intended application. As evidence comes to light it's not a good predictor of success you'll start to see people rely on it less and less.

The anti-Tua crowd suggested that the 2nd half performance against GB was a result of GB's halftime adjustments and "figuring Tua out". Now we have the claim that 6 days isn't enough.

It's not moving goalposts. If people want to talk about Tua being smart, then people are going to talk about the Wunderlic and his gpa.

Have you taken it? I took it online once, or something that purported to be it, and it was stupid easy. I agree, it's way overhyped... however, if you score super low, on an easy test, that doesn't seem to be a good thing.

Except nobody was talking about him being smart. Someone said he was getting bigger, faster, stronger, and smarter. No real good reason for a Dolphin fan to see that and say "oh actually he is really dumb and he definitely had a bad GPA".

I don't know why you feel the need to lump yourself in and defend two posters who only troll. It only undermines someone like you who has valid points.

He clearly had problems understanding the playbook when he led the league in passing rating.

You also failed to account for his upbringing by a strict parent that was singularly focused on him becoming an NFL QB, living on an island chain with all kinds of societal pressure. Perhaps his education wasn't prioritized in favor.of focusing on his physical skills.

I'd imagine you are very young and a bit closed minded - maybe one day you'll mature enough to realize that judging someone's intellect that you've never met is both offensive and ignorant. The world isn't as black and white as you think it is. He may not be smart by your standards but clearly smart enough to likely make more in a year than you will in your entire lifetime.

I don't know. I'm just saying, if some people bring up that he's smart, it's not moving the goalposts to then talk about his Wunderlic score or his GPA.

I was only addressing that claim, not attempting to get into the "Is Tua Smart" debate
