Why do we need a tight end option when Hill and Waddles are open by 20 yards on every play?

I think Cam Smith is going to be a critical part of this team being successful this year. If he can hang on the outside then you can leave him and X out there and deploy Ramsay in that role that Flores wanted to deploy Minkah in, "Defensive Weapon". Give him no real position and just let him line up depending on what is most impactful on any game week.

I can see why they would be biased in favor of the Jets, its NE I don't understand.

I'm not as high on the defence as many here but I expect them to be top 15 which would be a massive improvement. The offence is going to be top 5 while Tua is healthy, the whole season hangs on that. We just need to be a bit "luckier" with injuries this year, we can't have the same happen when you are missing 5 OL and 7 DB's.

They clearly believe in AJ for some reason but I've no idea why. Their insistence that AJ and Liam are good enough starters could be the downfall again this year. You can cover up 1 bad player on the line usually but not 2. If they fail again we will need one of the backups to step in and be productive and I'm not sure we have them on the roster right now.

With a healthy Tua, a better defence giving the offence more chances (and hopefully better field position, we had a really low number of take aways last year) I can see us winning 12 or 13 games even with the schedule which looks brutal just now. I expect us to make the playoffs and go deep as I honestly think this team can beat anyone in the league.

What are you talking about, hit?

Watch the clip he posts at the 4:36 mark and tell me Grier can’t draft OLinemen.

….and he also pretty much summed up my feelings on the teams’ entire draft and, keep in mind, this comes from one of the biggest Tuanonners on the internet.

What baffles me (and seemingly everyone not in the building) is WHY they think they are good at RT with Jackson. If he had shown flashes before his injury, or steady improvement, or anything, really, you could see why they are optimistic. So far, to my admittedly untrained eye, he has shown and done nothing to warrant such faith.

The only thing I can think of is that they are holding on to him and Noah to justify their first round selection status, which I pray is not the case. (If the rest of the DB room is healthy, I don’t see any way Noah makes this team, Grier or no Grier)

We need backs with vision. there were several times i would replay a run and think .. if he had hit that hole he would have had a massive gain.

Maybe someday. But counting on a 6th round pick to transition to a new position and be an impact player his rookie year, at a position where rookies are notoriously unproductive, is a very tall ask.

To be fair, AJ was hurt most of last year and only took 84 snaps in total. That's not enough of a sample size to really judge him. Let's hope that the FO's faith in him is based on what they were seeing in practice prior to the injuries.

If he makes the team I doubt he will be asked to do normal TE duties. He will more or less be a receiver, just like Gesicki. At least on film he can make people miss and run through contact.

I definitely think it's because they were both 1st rounders. They both have a decent cap hit and since it's all guaranteed we save 0 space by cutting them so they have stuck around in the hope something can be coached out of them.

Even with that, I don't think Iggy makes the roster this year and we all must be missing something with AJ since they are comfortable with him at starting RT. For the life of me though, I just don't see it. Even in limited action last season he wasn't good.

On the flip side of that coin, to be fair, he is quite injury prone, having been placed on IR of the season opener against the Pats in 2020 and again in November the same year.

He’s played 31 games in his 50 game career, starting 29 of them so I would have to disagree with you about the sample size.

The ONLY thing I would defend Jackson on is how quickly he was rushed into the starting line up. His pre-draft review stated he was a prospect that needed time to be molded into an effective offensive lineman.

Guess his molding was baptism by fire.

I've said this before, but Jackson was playing with TERRIBLE technique the past few seasons and literally beat himself. When he was in position with good technique, he's a very solid dependable lineman. We're just not seeing that very often.

If I had to guess, you can't teach a lineman to be stronger or more explosive. Jackson has that naturally. You can teach him how to pivot and slide though, and my guess is that he probably looks great in practice. It's just not translating to the field on game day. I think we'll let him play out his rookie contract and then make a decision. I'm telling you guys though, he clearly has the talent....just not the consistency because of his footwork. For him it's all in the feet.

See, I'm not mad at him taking this stance. I'm just mad at the hypocrisy he shows with that last line.

(I'm not expounding since I'll have to dip into politics to do so. So, IYKYK.)

    Injury prone is fair.

I don't place much weight on his first two seasons as a) you pointed out he was considered a developmental prospect b) he changed positions frequently and c) had poor coaching.

I'm not saying AJ will amount to anything, just that we really don't know at this point and perhaps he was flashing in practice prior to the injury. On paper he certainly is an intriguing prospect and likely better than many that were drafted this past week. I'd also note that he is only 23 so its not like time is against him.

I totally agree and would add that under Flores they were teaching him the Tom Cable technique which wants the OL in tight while now under McDaniel they want a wider set (Armstead talked about beating your man to the fight) and you can literally see AJ overcompensating to get out to the point of attack, which caused him to frequently get beat inside. IMO that is correctable and there is plenty of upside given his natural abilities.

Unfortunately with Eichenberg, I think the opposite is true. His success in college was due to being fundamentally sound but he is limited physically which isn't translating well to the NFL. He shows flashes in the run game but ultimately I think the ceiling for him is just serviceable.

I absolutely loved what I saw on his college highlights, but he's way, way down the depth chart there with us, and the team didn't let the rookies get onto the field much a year ago.

Nope. At this point, either Smythe really steps up and surprises us, or I figure that they're just going to use them as blockers and basically go run-n-shoot.

From WR to TE is not that big of a stretch. He is known as a good blocking WR

He needs to put on some good weight, more strength, and learn to block in line though. If he's going to be a real TE, and not one of those that's just a big WR who runs seam routes at least.

Showing disdain for disrespecting the US flag, which stands for all those people who have put their lives in harms way and even given the ultimate sacrifice for this country is not a harsh stance.

Probably shouldn't have used the word "harsh" as that wasn't my point or intention. I was commenting on how odd it is too criticize the Dolphins for this stance but then say your not going to criticize the Cowboys when they took a similar stance.

People are free to do disrespectful things. That's their right - it's what makes our country great. Actions show someone's true character. Just depends on what you hold as values and if your values include disrespecting others values for the sake of making your statement. It's what's wrong with todays society IMO.
