Is it, though? Especially if these players are training elsewhere?

Well, my guess is some of these posters aren’t fans of this team. I mean, how can you supposedly love a sports team and not have ONE good thing to say about the team and have not one ounce of optimism? If my supposed favorite team caused me so much angst and sadness I’d stop watching them.

Did Tua play all 18 games last season?

Hitman6- “Yes, but only because he worked hard to be able to play all 18 games.”

    lmao

I disagree bro. Paying Tua $25m next year will do nothing but hinder the team. Any player at any time can have a career/season ending injury.

What if he plays on his 5th yr option next year and has another MVP type season? What if they go deep into the playoffs? What will his contract be then? Let’s say he plays out his contract, has that type of a season, and the Dolphins pay him the most of any QB in the league…and… he gets hurt in 2025?

Why does 2 seasons of being injury free matter more than one? Where’s the cutoff? 2? 3? 4?

My bet is, if Tua signs an extension, has a fantastic season, plays all 17 games, but he doesn’t win a SB, some here will call Grier an idiot for playing him. You can’t win with some of these people.

Trying to make snide remarks about the cap when you were proven wrong over and over and then STILL don’t understand that extending Tua will lower his cap hit over the next few seasons thus enabling the team to stay in “win now” mode. Akers me laugh harder at you.

They'll have plenty of time to team build during Mandatory OTAs and Training Camp.

The other aspect is that if things only go fairly well this coming year, the Fins should very much be set up to be a top contender a year from now. And even if Tua is just good not great again this coming season, you'd be a fool to let him walk and go into the 2025 season with a stocked roster everywhere else but no one at QB. It would be worse than what happened in the Wanny years with freaking Fiedler. Imagine having Pro Bowlers all over the place on offense and a defense with some young stars, but starting someone like Sam Darnold or Taylor Heineke at QB because you didn't sign Tua to an extension when you could. (that's the state of the QB free agent group next year)

I wouldn’t make him play the fifth myself but I don’t think some who are suggesting it are out of line per se.

I also would not give him the top contract in the market if that’s what his side is asking for.

We disagree on time spent at the facility, I think it’s ridiculous how little they do in the off-season, including otas

He certainly wouldn't be allowed to walk in that scenario as they would just franchise him and the tag is leverage the front office shouldn't be afraid to use in negotiations now.

They don't need to panic sign him to the biggest contract in league history but he is this teams QB of the future so they should be trying to lock him up.

Spending 75-80m in cap space on Tua the next two seasons is certainly the least helpful way to build up the rest of the team around him for next season though. Justin Herbert's cap hits are a total of 65m the first three years of his extension. Hurt's cap totals are 67m for the first three, and even in year five of his deal, the cap hit is less than the QB franchise tag number for this season, plus Philly has a manageable out after year three and an easy one after year four.

I agree which is why it shouldn't be their first option and I don't think it comes to that but you never know what his agent is trying to get.

Let's just say it's 70. If they wait another year and he balls out AGAIN it's going to be 80.

Well, right now he has a 25m cap number for 2024 (which could be reduced via an extension). This year, the QB franchise tag number was about 45m, and will likely go up next year, so that's where I got those numbers from.

Were they to work an extension, its likely his cap hits wouldn't exceed that 45m number until at least 2027. Which would in turn give the team as much as 50m more cap space in 2025 to spend on other players than they would have via tagging him.

I personally don't think Tua is an elite Qb.But in saying this with exception of the line we have elite talent at skill postions. The smart thing to do since maybe we have 2 year window is to sign him now and lower his cap for probably the next two years. My guess in year 3 or 4 it will go up significantly. The key is to have a way out.of.contract in year 4 if he doesn't produce.
My guess he gets signed right before training camp

Josh Allen- Signed contract on Aug 6th after exercising his 5th yr option in May

Joe Burrows- Signed contract on Sept. 7th after exercising his 5th yr option on April 25th

Lamar Jackson- Signed extension on April 27th

Justin Herbert- Signed extension on July 25th

All of these QB’s signed right around now or much later in the offseason and yet the media didn’t “fret” like they are now. It’s funny how some listen to the media even though they’ve proven time and time again how wrong and hyperbolic they are.

You missed the most important part:

I can say with certainty that not every forum has this level of anti-Tua rhetoric.

I'm sure you know the other forum and there isn't a thread that started in Sep 2023 that is still arguing the same issues about Tua, with the ongoing anti-Tua posts from the same posters.

Can we move on bud ? Who cares right?, in every sport with every fan base there always gonna be haters that enjoy seeing their words in print, they get off on it.

Our offense should be incredible this year.

This new kid Wright looks and runs with speed and force.

    Odell is gonna eat

Who cares what a handful of people think about anything

If Tua has to travel to Cali in order to workout with his new QB coach I don’t see a problem. Reports say that when he’s not in Cali he’s in Miami wither on the field or in meetings. To me this is just another hyperbolic media report bashing Tua… one of the nicest guys in the league. The same way they’re making stuff up about him not being signed yet, even though they wrote nary a word when guys like Herbert and Jackson signed their extensions much later in the year.

I get that, but if a player wants to take time to give himself a break or, like in Tua's case, to do things that'll help him improve as a player during voluntary OTAs, he has that right and his work ethic shouldn't be questioned because of it.

love tuas game and hope we get to see him reach his potential but it ain’t crazy to question some parts of his work ethic at this point.

He has the propensity to slack at times

Tua going to work with this new quarterback coach is what I would equate to the military equivalent of going TDY for training. I have no problem with it at all. It’s only going to give him more tools in his tool bag to work work and make his great quarterback play even better. Folks should recognize this and credit it where it’s due.

My comment about enough time for team building during OTA’s and camp is that even that is never enough time. Sometimes there is instant chemistry and bonding and other times it takes a while. Either way, “training” builds that teamwork which is why our military is the BEST in the world…we’re always training. Same ideas here. It would be great if NFL teams were able to “train” year round.

Seems as if he's been practicing this entire time. Either with his QB coaches in Cali or with his coaches/team in Davie.

Like I initially wrote...the original article in this thread and the ones after this are trash articles written by someone looking for clicks.
