As of right now we have 44 players signed at least through 2008, here is who i think will most likely be safe to be on the team, who is on the bubble and players that are all but cut. let me know who you think is in the wrong spot. SAFE: 1.john beck 2.vernon carey 3.samson satele 4.ted ginn 5.derek hagan 6.ron brown 7.lo. booker 8.ragan mauai 9.matt roth 10.vonnie holliday 11.rod wright 12.joey porter 13.channing crowder 14.will allen 15.jason allen 16.jay feeley 17.brandon fields ON THE BUBBLE: 1. I think Hagan and Fields far from locks next year, but unless we can get competition there they may be back. Hagan is not reliable and Parcels has little patience for inconsistent kicker/punters. I think absent trade, retirement, or refusal to restructure (we may be why you have them on the bubble), Zach and JT will be back. I want to see Moses and Mormino back, but not sure if they fit Parcells size mode. The rest have them can all be gone as far as I'm concerned. Obviously we will have to keep some of them, but I wouldn't shed any tears to see that group gone.
If Green can get medical clearance, Parcells may want to hold onto him. I like your lists though, they look accurate to me. However, I think Mormino is safe. I'm hoping guys like Soliai and Moses will make the cut as well but i'm not so sure.
I think you're jumping the gun on Booker, Green, and Williams. I also think Solai is pretty safe. Solai was a rookie. He needs to learn technique and that should be expected from a first year NFL player. Paul Solai will stay. If Green wants to play next year and is cleared, I see Parcells giving him the opportunity to compete. He's a vet QB. You can say that Marty Booker has been inconsistent but the same can be said about every other WR. IMO Derek Hagen will be cut before Booker. Also, don't be surprised if Ricky is back with us next season. I think it's largely up to him. If he stays clean and shows up to training camp in shape, he'll be given a chance to compete. I really do not think JT is on the bubble, either. He's the most talented guy on the roster. Why would you get rid of him? It makes absolutely no sense if you're trying to acquire talent to let the player with the most talent walk away to play elsewhere. That's the same kind of thinking that got us Jamar Fletcher instead of Drew Brees.
I'm not so sure about Ricky Williams after Parcells made the statement that he didn't want players who were problem children and questionable character, thugs or hoodlums. Who in recent memory is a better example of a problem child than RW?
Not so sure about Moses, he's played great and he was just a rookie, i like him and say we have to keep him esp. with the lack of depth at d-line
I am about 50-50 on this one. Ricky is for sure our problem child, but, Cam said the same thing. THen whey he was cleared to play, he played for US. I thought for sure he was a goner, THIS YEAR.
I wish it were as easy as just keeping who is best at each position, and who has potential. Bill will sit down and look at everything, including salary cap, and level of play he is getting from players at there varying levels of pay, and degrees of experience. For example he may say that Roth isn't as good as Holiday, but taking into account, their age, wages, potential and longetivity--Roth may be a better keep than Vonnie. I mean, keeping Ricky is an option, but with Ronnie, Chatman, and Lo Bo is it really neccesary. Of course if Ricky is cheaper than Chatman, then I would say ok, but if it were between Ricky and Lo-Bo, I would have to say get rid of Ricky. It is a matter of opinion I know, but common sense has to prevail in certain circumstances. I just hope now that Bill is here he will start to make the right decisions (which is what Wayne wants), which is what most fans would have probably made clear from the start. Unfortunately what was obvious to me in the past (and now), still isn't obvious to others, who are meant to know what they are doing. I am still absolutely amazed that fans seem to be the most knowledgeable and the most accurate when it comes to personnel decisions. It is scary really
Hagen- is no lock Crowder- Maybe BP will get this boy to play Roth- make or break... very bad year J Allen- - See Crowder
I would put Hagan on the bubble. He seemed to have a lot of penalties on special teams and his hands have been erratic. Crowder apparently has met the contract stipulations to opt out and become a free agent. If he is restricted, my guess is that we will tender him at least at a second-round pick. I think Shelton and Peelle are likely salary cap cuts. Perhaps also Hill if there is any indication that he won't be fully recovered for training camp. Moses, Mormino, and Soliai will at least get a look through training camp. Time is running out on Toledo and Alabi, no matter what Hudson Houck thinks. Goodman and Daniels will probably be fighting for one job in training camp. Goodman's skills are better but he has been injury prone. We will have at least $13 million in veteran salaries pruned before the start of free agency, possibly $26 million if we trade Taylor and Thomas retires.
Not bad. However, if think Reed, Green, and Williams will return. If I was the GM I would keep/resign everyone on the bubble list.
Parcells can say what he wants, but he had TO on his team. If Williams looks good in camp, he would stay.
Williams is good insurance against Ronnie coming back slowly from injury. Peele catches the ball and gets open so I'm all for keeping him.
Trent played well, when the team around him was horrible. I think he should retire, but I can see the Tuna keeping him around. He is smart, protects the ball & is an accurate passer. He's a good QB & a class act, it's a damn shame about his history of concussions.
I pretty much agree tho Mormino and Abe Wright are 2 guys that should at least get a look...they were hurt this year but could make a push for it.....the all but cut list has Fifita in it but I think he's got a chance to make the team. Overall a good job nole. Ozzy rules!!
