Thanks, very interesting. I have to agree with his take that 1988 QBs were better overall. There's just one choice I flat-out disagree with, and that is 1988 Vinny Testaverde over Brian Griese. Vinny Testaverde wound up having a very good career, and it may not be over yet. But in 1988 he threw 35 interceptions(!) against 13 touchdowns. He completed less than half his passes and had a QB rating under 50, which is probably what you'd get if you just threw the ball at the ground nine times out of ten. Statistically, in 1988 Vinny Testaverde had one of the worst years any quarterback in the modern era (post-1977) ever had. No way he ranks ahead of Griese (or Garcia, or anyone playing today, except maybe Tyler Thigpen).

Don't forget the rules between then and now. Huge difference.

Hey is that Boomer that he is referencing? British fan named Simon?

Love the shot he took at Favre and the Jets at the end of the article.

I agree but it's still a little late to judge Griese vs. Testy just yet in Tampa. Of course, Griese has been to a Pro Bowl and fared well in spurts.

yes, I thought it must be Boomer. Re the rules, the big changes came in 1978, I thought, but I am no expert.

No I mean the Peyton crying rules. When they kept getting beat by the Patriots and peyton whined and cried about the DBs booty-thieving the Colts WRs, and the NFL changed the rules to enforce the 5 yard contact rules.

    The post funk era
I think that was more of a shot of "" football in 2008"" then a shot at the jets or Favre.

    That was my take anyways

Yeah, actually these two guys are a lot alike...at least at the point each is at in their careers...perhaps Griese has had the better first 8 yrs than Vinny did, but Griese could continue on and be a Vinnyette for the next 4-5 yrs, coming off the bench or moving from team to team and potentially, if put in the right situation, have a positive effect on a team, like Vinny did the last 10 yrs of his career...You know, playing the whiley old vet routine...

I don't agree with the Lomax/Warner choice. I remember Lomax being a decent QB who piled up some good #'s throwing to Roy Green, but not only was Warner better in St. Louis, I think he's still better today, as his 158.3 rating against us 2 weeks ago will attest to ...

That was a good read. However I disagree with his take on Seattle.

Seems like he is. Griese's been a wiley old vet who seems to have a knack now for comeback victories. He did a lot of that in his brief time in Chicago and Tampa (almost had one against the Colts for us until Dwight Freeney took less than a second to get past Wade Smith).
