I don't know where everybody is getting "Jake Long will be a RT." There is nothing in his game that shows he can't be a LT.
Mostly the fact that his kick slide is sloppy and unbalanced, to where he is prone to getting knocked on his butt or beaten by a good pass rusher.
Jake Long could be the key to our potential trade down. If we can convince St. Louis that we want him bad enough, then we could pick up a free 2nd or 3rd rounder and move down to number 2. but all of that will be very hard to do after we sign Flozel Adams to a 5 year deal in March. All signs IMO are pointing to Carey playing on the right side of the line again next season. I know thats gonna be tough for him to swallow, but he is a great player and he will be willing to rededicate himself to his new role.
Sure, sort of, keep in mind Adamprez2003, Henne was taking 3 step drops and throwing for the majority of his passes. I saw a Fl player literally run a lap around Long and get in on a tackle from the backside, it was incredible he was planted like a statue...
I look and I see him knock guys away from Henne, I see him not get penalized, and I don't see him getting beat all the time. oh and for you guys who don't like Long, Ryan Clady just declared for the draft
Jake Long is a RT without the feet or movement to be effective in pass pro. Watch him kickslide - the rest of his body doesn't seem connected and he loses balance, he gets his feet caught under him and his technique goes to pot. He was dominated by Vernon Gholston 2 seasons running and whilst he's a tremendous run blocker, when he goes backwards - especially when Henne goes back further than 3 steps - he has trouble with speedy edge rushers. I would sick into my mouth if we took him 1st. Don't get me wrong - dominating run blocker in the 'better than Jon Runyan' category, but absolutely not at the top of the draft. Jeff Otah is the cream of the LT class.
If the fins don't take a quarterback in the first round I would be happy with this pick. Anything is better then another kick returner in the first round!
