Kader Kohou has appeared in 49 games for the team over the last three seasons, which makes him the cornerback with the most experience in the Dolphins’ defense as they head toward training camp. Kohou is embracing the chance to take on a bigger role after learning from the likes of Ramsey, Xavien Howard, and Jordan Poyer.

”I have to step up and be leader in the room and show the younger guys how we want our unit to be, just like they did with me,” Kohou said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “Jalen Ramsey, X, Jordan Poyer showed me the way. You don’t always have to talk; you can lead by example. It’s going to be a challenge. Being the oldest guy in the room, whether you want it or not, is a little weight on your shoulder because you have to show the other guys. It’s not something I’m not prepared for.”

The Dolphins got safety Minkah Fitzpatrick back from the Steelers in the Ramsey trade and they will likely look to add some more cornerback help ahead of camp, but the more Kohou can add to his plate the better for a team that’s making a lot of changes to their roster without much time before the start of the season.

Kohou is 26, it's crazy to think he's the veteran guy in the room. We've brought in so many young corners through this rebuild and it's crazy none of them from the first few years are still around. And I think that hurts the team as much as anything; bringing in young talent, developing them, and not being able to retain them on a 2nd contract.

I get that other clubs are willing to overpay in free agency, but I miss the time when guys would be with only 1-2 teams throughout their career. Guys like Van Ginkel, just solid role players, are what's always made such a difference in winning franchises. Now they're poached and teams are continually rebuilding...I don't like that.

I like Kader he’s a decent nickel and one of the best tacklers we have seen from this position in a Dolphins uniform.

We have what's considered to be the worst CB room in the league. We really need Smith and others to not just step up, but to play to potential. That's a big ask. If they take coaching, we have a chance. It's really the main question to answer leading into the season.

The strangest thing about Grier as a GM is that we seem to have excellent pieces but never a consistently good whole. Every freaking offseason, we lose players who make other teams better, which tells me it's not the players that he's drafting that's at fault. Personally, I think it's cash allocation to stars that creates a top-heavy roster. If Cheetah wasn't being paid at his rate, our depth would be a non-issue. Or Waddle. Or Tua. I know decisions have to be made, but the opportunity cost of paying three players $90 million is the loss of four or five solid-to-good players that could make the team better - even minus one of those guys. Maybe the lack of a splash this offseason will pay dividends down the road. But we can't have two guys in the same position group taking 22% of payroll for a 53 man team.
