News, highlights and observations from Day 11 of Dolphins training camp on Tuesday, a session open to media but closed to fans: ▪ Among the standouts: edge player Mo Kamara (three big flash plays), linebacker Derrick McClendon (three or four sacks), receiver Malik Washington (caught a 52-yard touchdown from Tua Tagovailoa), receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back Alexander Mattison (who has been very good all camp). Tagovailoa, who has thrown just one interception all camp (none Tuesday), had a great pass to Washington but overthrew an open Tyreek Hill on one play, underthrew Hill on another and then was way off on a pass to Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, who was open in the end zone. Zach Wilson threw several red-zone TDs, but the defense got the better of 11-on-11 work Tuesday, with constant pressure on the quarterback. ▪ Linebacker Jaelan Phillips (foot bruise) returned to practice after missing one day. Cornerback Jason Marshall Jr., who is nursing a leg injury, participated in position drills and then spent the rest of practice on a stationary bicycle. Players still out Tuesday: center Andrew Meyer (undisclosed), fullback Alec Ingold (concussion protocol), right tackle Austin Jackson (leg), cornerback Cam Smith, safeties Ashtyn Davis and Dante Trader Jr. and offensive lineman Bayron Matos. Smith missed his fourth practice of camp; coaches have made clear he needs to be getting these reps. Cornerback BJ Adams remains in concussion protocol but is participating in parts of practice. Safety Elijah Campbell wore a non-contact red jersey. ▪ Zach Sieler wore the orange practice jersey bestowed on the player who stood out at the previous practice. (Perhaps this was also a tip of the cap for all the good work that led to his three-year, $67 million contract extension.) ▪ Notable from the first set of 11-on-11 drills: Tagovailoa underthrew a wide open Hill; it should have been a touchdown. Cornerback Kendall Sheffield got a hand on the ball.... Jaylen Wright had a run for 3 yards... Backup tackle Larry Borom, who’s filling in for Jackson, had a false start. Borom has had an underwhelming camp... Mo Kamara had a tackle for loss on Wright. The battle among Kamara, Cameron Goode, Quinton Bell and Grayson Murphy is an interesting one.... Linebacker Derrick McClendon would have sacked Tagovailoa, who threw the pass anyway to Hill for a 30-yard gain... Mattison turned the corner for 10 yards, then ran another 8 yards up the middle. Mattison has been the best of the backup running backs through 11 days of camp... Wilson was off on a pass to Westbrook-Ikhine... Kamara had a sack on Wilson, then had a tackle at the line of scrimmage on Mattison....Hayden Rucci dropped a Wilson pass, with Mikah Fitzpatrick applying pressure on the play.... Ollie Gordon II broke free for a 15-yard run behind a good block from guard Braeden Daniels, who was very good Tuesday... Mattison then had a 5-yard gain. ▪ Notable from the second set of 11-on-11s: Jordyn Brooks applied pressure before Tagovailoa threw an incomplete pass... Tagovailoa hit Westbrook-Ikhine for a 10-yard touchdown in the corner of the end zone. Sheffield was in coverage... Sieler had a would-be sack on Tagovailoa, who threw the ball away.... Wright scored on a 5-yard run... Sieler again pressured Tagovailoa, who again threw the ball away... McClendon, who has had a good camp, sacked Wilson... Achane caught a 5-yard TD pass from Wilson, beating Willie Gay Jr.... Wilson then hit Dee Eskridge, who made a nice catch for a 5-yard TD... Goode got strong pressure off the edge, forcing Wilson to throw the pass away... Gordon scored from 4 yards out on a shovel pass from Wilson.... Ethan Robinson was called for pass interference... Tagovailoa overthrew Hill, with Sheffield in coverage... Campbell limited Wright to a 2-yard gain.. Jaylen Waddle then had a 15-yard catch from Tagovailoa in a hurry-up drill. Big play alert: Tagovailoa hit Malik Washington on 52-yard touchdown, beating Sheffield. Big play alert: Tagovailoa hit Malik Washington on 52-yard touchdown, beating Sheffield, who struggled all day. ▪ More from 11 on 11 drills: Chop Robinson sacked Wilson... Wilson then had a short completion to tight end Pharoah Brown... Tagovailoa hit Tanner Conner for a 15-yard gain down the sideline... Malik Washington dropped a Tagovailoa pass in the end zone... Tagovailoa then overthrew a wide open Eskridge in the end zone... McClendon then had another sack; he has had at least seven during training camp. ▪ Highlights from red-zone drills: There has been an Erik Ezukanma sighting. Wilson hit him for a 5-yard TD... McClendon then had his third sack of the day, on Wilson... Quinn Ewers hit Theo Wease Jr. for a 33-yard TD. Wease has been the best of the undrafted rookie receivers.... Ewers hit Gordon for a 3-yard gain.... Grayson Murphy beat Jalen McKenzie (son of former Dolphins executive Reggie McKenzie) for a sack.... Tagovailoa hit Waddle for 10 yards, then hit Waddle for 8....Wilson hit Tarik Black on a touchdown; Ethan Bonner did not play the ball well in coverage... Tight end Hayden Rucci was called for a holding penalty on Goode.... McClendon had a tackle in the backfield and nearly had a fourth sack; keep in mind he’s doing a lot of his damage against backup offensive linemen. ▪ More 11-on-11 drills hurry up drills: Tagovailoa had a misconnection with Westbrook-Ikhine, though that might have been the receiver’s fault.. Tagovailoa hit Waddle for 11 yards, then hit him for another 13 yards.. Sheffield had a nice breakup on a Tagovailoa pass to Westbrook-Ikhine.... Tagovailoa overthrew Eskridge in the end zone.
