The Miami Dolphins claimed cornerback Julius "JuJu" Brents off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts.
Brents, a 2023 second-round pick, has an injury history but tested high athletically coming out of college.
MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins have claimed cornerback Julius "JuJu" Brents from the Indianapolis Colts.

Brents, 25, was a second-round pick of the Colts from Iowa and Kansas State in 2023.

The Dolphins are putting cornerback Cam Smith on the NFI (Non-Football Injury list), though general manager Chris Grier declined to provide details.

Brents, 6-foot-3, 198 pounds, is considered long, rangy and athletic.

Brents does have an injury history that includes wrist, hamstring, quadriceps, nose and knee.

When Brents was a rookie, Colts coach Shane Steichen said: "I like his tenacity… I love the way he fights, the way he plays man coverage. He’s a strong, longer guy that competes at the top of routes and I just love his energy.”

CB Julius "JuJu" Brents to Miami Dolphins' 53-man roster
Brents started eight games as a rookie for the Colts, but he played in only two games last season.

He rehabbed most of last season after tearing knee ligaments.

At the NFL scouting combine in 2023, Brents tested 7th among cornerbacks in athleticism score.

Miami Dolphins' 53-man roster: the cornerbacks
The Dolphins cornerback room at the moment stacks up like this:

    Storm Duck
    Jack Jones
    Jason Marshall, Jr.
    Rasul Douglas
    JuJu Brents
    Ethan Bonner
The Dolphins waived Isaiah Johnson after officially adding Douglas.

Re-signed swing tackle Kendall Lamm is taking Smith's spot on the roster.

Potential for injury notwithstanding, the CB room looks much better today than it did 48 hours ago.
