I merely pointed out WHY it was out of reach. Trying to separate Tua from the game being out of reach is impossible. HIS PLAY made the game out of reach. 17 points at halftime is not out of reach. You guys are reaching to defend Tua.
I wasn't defending Tua, not one bit. I was being more critical of the defense, not being able to stop Daniel Jones and the Colts ONCE...not a SINGLE defensive stop. Our defense made Jones look like Tom Brady
Yeah my entire post was made to Highly Exaulted, and referencing him mocking my position that the game was in reach with a better QB. That is true. Tua himself screwed us. Defense held Indy to mostly field goals, especially after turnovers, so while I agree that the defense wasn't good, Exaulted is using them as a red herring to distract from Tua, who was actually even worse. And he has called me a troll many many times, yet he comes in with comments like the one I referenced.
You keep talking about building a complete team, but this team was built around Tua and his limitations. If we didn't have to dump so many resources into building a team for Tua to thrive in, we could have built a more complete team. On that poll in that thread of Grier's horrible decisions, a huge one was left off. Extending Tua for all of that money was completely insane and completely negligent from a team building perspective. It completely screwed us from building that complete team of which you speak. There was absolutely no reason to do that and though football is the ultimate team sport, the QB is the biggest, most important piece of the team and probably in all of sports. We had to bring in McDaniel because he was the only one really interested in the job and got the job by supporting and claiming he can win with Tua. That's how he got the job and now everyone wants to blame McDaniel for the the team's failures. So, aside from just his play, the reason the team is in this shape is the f up of drafting him and then having to craft a team around Tua's limitations and extending him when there was no good reason to do so. So, it's not as simple as just saying we need a complete and better team. As I always say, The Devil is in the details. When you have such a limited QB, the entire team becomes limited as well. There is only so much you can do after that. His limitations will always make it much more difficult to succeed and will ultimately bring the team down. So, much falls on Grier and Ross. It's better to admit your mistakes to yourself and cut the losses quick and start building the correct way. They didn't and were are seeing the results.
It definitely is true. The coach who they brought in to make it work with Tua along with the idiot GM didn't think we needed a better OL to make it work with Tua and though the OL sucks, they weren't the reason we lost these games. Tua has actually had ample time to throw. It's purely due to his limitations and regressions for why we lost these games.
I don't disagree with any of that but you originally said they dumped too many resources for Tua. They spend a lot of resources on the defense it just wasn't spent well.

While every quarterback, every team every fan LOVES incredible wide receivers…Stallworth and Swann, Duper and Clayton, Irvin, Rice, Moss, Hill, Brown; I think I can confidently say what a quarterback wants more than anything is to have a clean jersey at the end of a game and that means a STOUT offensive line. A stout offensive line that can open holes large enough fora Mack truck to drive through. A stout offensive line that allows a quarterback to be able to sit back in a clean pocket so he can do his job during passing plays. I’ll give Sceeto this, they looked for a new head coach that would work with Tua, and while there is no doubt McDaniel elevated Tua’s play from the days of Flores, this team, offensively was hindered by the offensive line being an afterthought. Grier spends his time and energy on the flashy toys, drafted Waddle. Ok, no biggie. You want to build a team long term through the draft but goes out and spends Ross’ money on Hill, Berrios, OBJ…Jesus, who were the other busts? Then…THEN, oh yea, well I guess we do have to field an OL. Well, what can I get $10? Ok, I’ll go get Armstead, he’s GREAT…so what if I’ll get maybe have a season with him. Wynn, Connor, Brewer; shopping for bargain basement deals and coming up flat each and every time. With Mostert and Achane, our running backs should back been rushing for 209 yards a game. Had we an offensive line like the Eagles, we could very well have been. Look how much Barkley flourished after his arrival in Philly. Bottom line is this. The Dolphins knew what they were getting in Tua. A smaller sized quarterback with great talent and a history of injury at Alabama. If this is what you wanted, fine. So be it but first and foremost, you build the most base element to make that quarterback successful; an offensive line, then get him the shiney toys. Grier failed to do that and that in itself was criminal. If the offensive line is going to be an afterthought, you go with a different quarterback, one with a completely different skill set. And that’s just on offense. On defense????? Oh good God, TOO many Greek tragedies to list without making this post longer than it already is.
Eagles also prove you don't have to choose. They are paying a QB and two top WRs and still have the offensive line and defense.
IMO, Tua and Dak Prectott are basically the same guy. When the Cowboys had a good offensive line and run game, Dak was able to go out and do his job, he put up some of the best numbers in the league and Dallas won a lot of games in the regular season. Had Tua been put into that position, the results would have likely been similar. But it obviously wasn't. Grier is awful on the OL, and McDaniel is obsessed with turning every play into a big gain through YAC. If the next Dolphins QB is going to succeed, then the next Dolphins GM needs to build up the OL in front of him, and the next Dolphins HC needs to commit to running the ball between the tackles. Set the foundation first, then build up. Heck, I'm completely content on not trying to find a new QB for several years while the rest of the team is fixed first.

Speaking of Grier, look at how he's killing us with dead money voids. Tua has 14m in dead money voids after his contract ends, whether he's here or not. Tyreek 17m in voids after he's gone. Austin Jackson has 15m. Aaron Brewer has 9m. Zach Wilson has 7m. James Daniels has 5m. Minkah almost 10m. Chubb 4.7m. Brooks 5m. (This is all above and beyond anything that might happen if these players are cut. This is guaranteed already) Not to mention the 15.7m they're paying X Howard this year, for a guy who hasn't played in two years. 15m to Ramsey for a year and a half on the team. 8m to Armstead. 5.4m to Fuller for half of one season. 4.4m to Shaq Barret for a guy who never even went to camp with the team! Just a gift to him. 900k to Beckham for nothing. All of this dead money on guys who aren't even on the team just kills what you're able to do for players who are on the field on Sundays, and I hate it so much. It has to change with the next front office.

This what Hurts contract looks like: 2025: 21.9m 2026: 31.9m 2027: 41.1m (or 20m in dead money) 2028: 47.5m (or 8m in dead money) contract ends 2029: 38.4 m in dead money voids 2030: 30.1m in dead money voids 2031: 20m in dead money voids 2032: 10m in dead money voids So they're going to literally still be paying seven years from now for going all in to try and win another SB this season.

College too. Watching games this year, I have not looked at a single guy and thought he could be a good NFL starter, let alone someone who you build a franchise around. Coaching and development is struggling badly at every level, in part because of how players bounce around.
Eh the void thing is just NFL accounting. The problem isn't voids, it's who you give it to. The Eagles have used it VERY effectively to keep elite talent and build that Super Bowl team. The problem is that Grier sucks and makes bad decisions. The cap is putting Ross in a tough position though. Ross is likely too old to want a full-scale rebuild again, which may lead him to just give Grier (and McD) another shot. I already think they had tacit approval to begin a remodelling with the idea of a small reset in cap and unless this season goes totally haywire (like 2-4 win haywire) they may be safe. Side note since I'm watching the Bengals and Vikings ... man wouldn't it be funny if we just said eff it and offered a pile for Burrow. One issue to monitor is the ongoing effect of NIA on college. Could see a lot of the bigger names staying and significantly weakening this year's class. With Tua's contract, you don't need to force picking a new QB if you aren't totally sold.

They're a great team that can get by without good QB play. I don't give a **** what a QB does on the ground, and hope that the tush push is banned ASAP.
I also wish the tush push was banned, it's a dumb play. However, in the modern NFL you simply can't discount what a QB does rushing. Not having a QB who can run with the ball is a liability that takes a lot to overcome. It's not impossible (see Goff, Jared), but it's a handicap. You don't want to sacrifice passing, but running is a huge impact. Allen, Lamar, Hurts, Mahomes - these are the prototypical NFL QB of this era and it's not a coincidence that they win so much. It's why if you are looking toward the draft, you have to give special attention to the freak athletes over the traditional passers.
The whole point dummy was that no matter how bad your quarterback can play, when you have a good team, you're always in the game. This is not the case for the Dolphins. If Tua has a bad game, its over.
