This becomes quite the quagmire for the team. What if…and I emphasize IF the Dolphins suddenly have a reawakening and go on an 8 game winning streak to finish the season 10-7…maybe making the playoffs, maybe not. What then? Does the new GM come on board and keep what’s already in place? Does he have to try and justify firing a head coach that’s had 3 out of 4 consecutive winning seasons? Now, so I think any of that is going to happen? Absolutely NOT. I think the Dolphins win maybe 2 or 3 games and end up a 4 or 5 game winning team. I agree with DouglieDoWrong. I think Ross is going to maintain status quo for the remainder of the season and let the team disintegrate into oblivion and let the new GM come in and completely rebuild the team from the ground up.
I mean, we had one of the most explosive offenses in football for two seasons. Then we traded away two stud corners and our opponent scored on every single drive going into the 2nd game. It doesn't take a genius to see that those trades were terrible moves. Who'd we replace the stud corners with? Edge rushers! And if we had 30 sacks going into this week, it was a good move. But we don't and we're far worse than last season in sacks and pressures. Again, can't fully blame McDaniel. He deserves some heat, sure, but all he has to do is point at the CB room and say, "What the heck!?! That wasn't on me!" For the offense, Tua is certainly off this season. But did you notice the two games that he played solid? It was the two games that the defense had us in the game. It's a lame excuse, sure, but when he wasn't expected to wear a superman cape and just play game manager, he did Tua-like things. McDaniel has struggled this season to create an offense with the current line and receiver corps. We have stud RB's but very few holes. We still have Waddle, but how do you get Waddle open when the pocket rarely holds and teams are doubling/tripling him in zone AND shutting down the quick slant routes? It's tough- we need a competent line and we'd be in business, even without Tyreek. This is a run first team that makes chunk plays off of play-action. But that can't happen with unblocked defenders getting into our backfield. Grier had to go, and McDaniel probably will go as well. It's a shame really because I think he has the goods, but he doesn't have the talent to protect his skill players. It always comes back to that darn offensive line. That's why Grier was fired first and McD will shortly follow him...it's mostly Grier's fault though.
I agree. I just don't see how any of this is on McDaniel. Fans that want a "Rah rah" coach that's gonna scream and grab players by the face mask like some 1980s All The Right Moves movie are really showing their age. That doesn't happen anymore in the pros. Hasn't for a long time. I do agree that McDaniel has the chops to do this. I hope he's not a fall guy at seasons end, and honestly...An in house hire for GM is fine by me. Grier being gone might be all it takes as far as personel. You give McDaniel AND Tua next year because God help this offense if Tua is without McDaniel. We're locked into Tua regardless money wise. There's no reason to fire coach. The atrocious Weaver defense needs to be revamped and of course our offensive line needs to be fixed. We've needed to fix it for twenty years now. When these glaring weaknesses are screaming in your face and you do nothing about it from a GM perspective, and that's your actual job, it's time for you to go.
People want McDaniel gone for legitimate reasons. I'm not saying he's the main problem, but he's certainly been part of the problem.
Consider this… If the Dolphins continue in a whirlwind downfall for the remainder of the season, and Ross wants to secure the number 1 draft pick, then you definitely keep McDaniel and Tua through the end of the season.
Hope the bills wipe the slate with us tommorow. Every loss will be better to expedite mcdaneils departure have to deal with Tua another year but he sure as hell won’t keep me from selecting a Qb with our first round pick
I can see why folks would want Tua and McDaniel gone. There's crazy trade scenarios out there- Tua for Kyler, Tua for a haul of draft picks while we convert his salary next year to performance bonuses to entice the next team. Lots of "what if" pitches and some of them sound appealing. Here's the thing though; they'll either right the ship in the next few months or they won't. If I were a betting man, I'd say the magic number is 8- eight wins on the season to potentially keep anyone. We're two and seven, so that means we'd have to win six of the last eight. And we will probably get stomped by the Bills...and we never win the intercontinental games. So that leaves basically zero room for error against the Bengals, Pats, Steelers, and others down the road. Could this squad win six of eight? Absolutely...they have the talent. But I'm not sure if they have the heart at this point. We'll be better as starting linemen come off IR and maybe we'll figure some things out on defense. I think we all know that it all comes down to Tua and an explosive offense once again. Either it happens and we win or the season is lost. Personally, I don't have a dog in this fight- if Tua/McD can earn another year, then go Fins. If they can't, then I'll say go Fins with whoever we have next year. The only thing I don't want to see is this team win 4 games and keep exactly what we have with a new GM. Either we perform this year and tweak a strong roster, or we fall flat and clear house. I want one or the other. And don't get me wrong, I hate clearing house...it should only be a last-case scenario since it sets the franchise back many years. I do believe we're just about there though and there's no way forward with Tua/Tyreek's salaries unless we actually have our championship contender today.
Do you honestly see ANY team giving up multiple good picks for Tua? I don't. It's not because I hate Tua, but I don't see any team that would want to stake it's success on him. I think we may be stuck with him a bit longer, and I don't expect to see any real interest from other teams in him.
Not multiple picks. Whether you're on board with Tua and his abilities or not, he's been a polarizing figure in the league. I can see a team giving a 4th round pick that could become a 3rd conditionally. Like Tannehill however, Tua will be traded...he will be the missing piece of a puzzle and the team he's traded to will have immediate success.
Yeah I was just referencing the rumor Key mentioned, about trading Tua for a haul of draft picks. Lol. That pundit is smoking crack if he's thinking that's a possibility. Unless three indoor meant a haul of 6 and 7th round picks haha
