You never know. I saw both Brady and Fitzpatrick comment that they were upset Rivers got a call to come play instead of them. Heck, Matt Ryan did as well now that I think about it. Oh, and Cam Newton was ranting that he's a much better option today than Phillips! Not that we'd want a recent retiree, but the potential QB pool could be bigger than you'd think. We'll find someone to start.
But here's the thing- we've had an offense that didn't focus on Tua for about 5 weeks now. Your stats on Achane are prior to that, in the prior pass-heavy offense where the run blocking was sub-par. Before it was Tua getting Achane good looks; now it's the exact opposite. McDaniel absolutely proved he could win without Tua, even though Tua was on the field for that four-game win streak. Two completely different offenses due to the line getting healthy and figuring some things out. I would guess the plan all along was that once we lost again, Tua was going to be benched. He has regressed so badly over this season that even casual fans have noticed.
Does anyone really think teams are scared of Tua?His arm is gone.Mcdaniel knew this and switched his scheme from passing to running. Sometimes using 6 offensive lineman.
Lazy boy Tua deserved this he’s done wearing flip flops to work he’s never gonna take another snap again for us the culmination of poor work ethic and laziness is what we witnessed this year n He gone, see ya
When you have to "hide" your quarterback and game plan around hiding him, AND he's making 50+ million, it's time to end things. I, for one, was mostly annoyed with how he's conducted himself this entire season. Throwing teammates under the bus, his crappy leadership, just all of it. We're getting our asses kicked in a game, and he's laughing and joking on the sidelines. We lose, we get eliminated from the postseason yet again, and he's joking around and yucking it up with Jalen Ramsey after the game. I've had enough of the mouth-kissing of opposing players. You never saw Dan Marino do that. Tom Brady never did that. Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, they don't do that. Losing is really not an acceptable trait in their DNA, and it shouldn't be with a guy that's supposed to be leading your team...You're a supposed franchise player. It's completely unacceptable that he's behaved that way. Give him his money and send him down the road. Now...As far as Ewers go...I don't think he's it. He might be a backup in this league, but this dude is not saving us. It's definitely time to move on from Tua, but we better be looking elsewhere this offseason. Nothing wrong with giving these three games to Quinn, but He's not it either.
Even with Achane running wild, it still didn’t open up the passing game for him. That’s crazy. It could have if he could throw the damn ball.
Caveat: We win because Ewers starts showing serious potential where QB isn't like an immediate must fill need anymore, then I'm ok with wins.
Don't you want to see the offense explode without the guy that was holding McDaniel's offense back? Ewers gives the Dolphins the best chance to win according to him. I'm fully expecting a win.
Of course, try to win. Losing will not move us up in the draft. We're not catching the Jest, Bengals, Browns, Titans, Raiders, Cardinals, Giants, Saints and Washington, those guys are really bad. Nothing to be gained by losing so might as well try to win and see if Ewers has got anything.
Why are you so salty? Everyone in America knows Tua is done.Every sports channel and podcast in Americia is saying and its justified. You think you smarter than everyone else?Wow the ego on you. Lol
There's a hint of sarcasm here and I totally get it. We've been *** with Tua, We've been hot garbage *** without him. Anybody who expects Ewers to come in and light it up against the Bengals on Sunday is borderline delusional. It'd be amazing if he did do that, but I think the offense is going to look like one being run by a rookie taken in the 7th round. That being said there is undeniable intrigue with Ewers. He was the consensus number one quarterback coming out of high school. Many viewed him as a can't miss prospect. He had some injuries at Texas, he was punked and benched in what was supposed to be a legacy game for him in college, he has limited mobility, and he's not the most accurate. The intrigue is that he has a good arm, he's playing with some motivation, and he's hungry. These are all traits that Tua lacks. I definitely do not think Ewers is the answer, but he's worth a look. He's got a great opportunity ahead of him, this is his one shot and that's what makes this all very interesting. Do I expect a win? No...I think Burrow is going to carve us up. Maybe Ewers shows us something in the midst of all that. We've got nothing to lose at this point, and we need to see what this kid can do before we move towards resolving this Tua situation. I think the better question is do we let Tua come back as the starter next season or has he played his last down in Miami. We can't afford to get this wrong again. To me, benching him now signals that we are in fact done with him, but it's the Miami Dolphins. I could easily see us doing some stupid $hit where we let him come back as the starter next season. To me this should be the final nail in the coffin for him in Miami.
We get it, if Tua only has one fan left in the whole wide world, it is going to be you .. hang tight, i heard mexico has a football league and it never drops below 60 degrees in mexico. Match made in heaven for tua
Yeah, it was pretty funny to me as well. I forgot to add Cam Newton, he was actually offended that Indy didn't call him since he claims to still be in great shape and ready to start. He pointed out on a podcast, "I'm not retired...I am an active free agent ready to play!!!" LOL, okay. Whatever Cam!
Unsportsmanlike conduct Taunting Vertical Limit Half the distance to the end of the thread Automatic first down!
Always. It's fine to prioritize developing players over winning now with vets that are going to be gone, but the team should always try to compete. I don't think learning can really happen otherwise, and if they win, that means the young'uns are doing good. I don't care about hypothetical future players/picks. Nothing is promised and there are far too many draft misses at all levels.
I dont know what rights the Saints have on Derek Carr but there aint no way he is not a better option over Rivers… Philip has a weaker arm today than Tua, which is saying a lot.. he threw some ducks that game…
#1 and #5 really resonate with me. There seems to be a a motivation issue and he seems physically impaired, bot able to throw properly. I have been thinking that there must be some kind of undisclosed injury affecting Tua. The loss of arm power and skittishness in the pocket point to that. As for his work ethic, he needs to be doing Tom Brady s$%t to look after his body and Drew Brees s$%t when it comes to film study and nothing indicates he has/did put in that kind of effort consistently.
Guy reinjured his hip and missed the the last few games of last season. Seems people forgot about that. Has not been the same since, not that he was great even before that injury, but now he just o Looked completely washed up. It's what all of us had called out since we drafted him. He was too big of an injury risk and depended to much on system and having an elite almost perfect supporting cast around him to be successful. Soon as he lost Tyreek this year his play went to complete ****.
All of this gloating is getting ridiculous. Reading some of these posts, I can't help but envision "Kevin" from Home Alone, "YYYYYYESSSSSSS, yes yes yes yes!" Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Look, my stance on Tua has been consistent. I was a little concerned when we drafted him. The team had WAY TOO MANY HOLES to fill to think a small quarterback with some injury history was going to be THE answer. I knew that Chan Gailey had no desire to try and tailor his offense to Tua's skills. Flores had no desire to develop Tua. No one can deny one bit that McDaniel developed Tua and in 2023, he played at lights out elite levels. No one can objectively deny this. You can't. But being objective as I have been, I can honestly say that Tua's play has diminished drastically. He's not the same quarterback as he was. His play is no where near what it used to be, even before the Dolphins picked up Hill. Unless something drastically changes, Tua's time in Miami or even in the league for that matter is over. I'm objective on him. Some of you have had your heels dug in for 5 years now and now that his downfall has actually come now, all you want to do is gloat, "See? We told you!" Well, anybody can do that with any player in the league. Every player in the league has an expiration date and everyone can dig their heels in and be able to gloat once that day comes.
A franchise Qb doesn't have an experiation date after 5 years and I will argue 1 really good season not elite. All that talent not even 30 tds. My opinion bust of a pick.
I agree, the gloating is fifth grade level child-like on the parts of some of you (who I'm sure are in the throws of ED, hair loss, and middle age introspective reflections). Show some class and maturity about it. Some of you would rather be right and watch this team start all over again at square one with a rebuild that takes another five years than be wrong. I don't think we should be celebrating the fact that we're probably looking at Marcus Mariotta as our starting QB next year, and a 3-14 record. This sucks that Tua has dive bombed the way he has. The rebuild started in 2018. We're now 8 years out from that. Look how much the world has changed in those 8 years. Is it a relief that we're finally pulling the plug in Tua? Yeah, for me personally it is. We ripped the bandaid off, let's heal once again. I for one was in my teens the last time this team won a playoff game. That being said, I have never seen such discourse and flat out civil war between fans ALL yearning for the same result. It's truly poisoned this forum with the amount of room temperature IQ responses some of you have given. There's no reason to rub this in. Those that supported Tua supported a greater cause which was The TEAM! I think Tua detractors seemingly missed that entire point the whole time this in house conflict has gone on. I personally am a Miami Dolphin fan first and for life at that. I'm going to pull for whoever they have playing quarterback whether it's Dan Marino or Cleo Lemon. Do I believe in Ewers? FCK NO! Did I believe in Skylar Thompson? Hell NO! But some of you hated Tua so much, that you were suggesting, AND willing to die on a Skylar Thompson ant hill which is pretty sad if you ask me. FWIW, I'm glad Tua finally was benched. I'm actually tired of his stupid name at this point. I'm intrigued by Ewers (also a stupid name), I'm hopeful of the draft, and Sam Howell is my preference bridge quarterback for free agency. We're a long ways away from offseason and draft, but it's something to look forward to. A change at the QB position is huge. Let's move on.
