The bright side? Ewers gets experience (to at least be a backup QB) and the draft pick gets higher.

I think I read that we're stuck with pick 10, win, lose or draw.

First real offense they had to face in quite some time and the turnovers didn’t help either…

Defense is faltering. Miami is going to have to win in a shoot-out.

That seems impossible? A quick glance at Tankathon and it looks... possible? At least only moving a spot or two, up or down.

It's bad on every level. Offense. Defense. Officiating. It's all terribly one sided and awful.

    70-30 McDaniel gets fired.
The 4 game winning streak is long forgotten.

I missed the game, how did Ewers look overall? The highlights show some crisp throws, but they're highlights. He had the one pick where Waddle was manhandled for 10 yards, but it was a designed play where you release before the receiver is open and just let him run to it (not Ewers fault).

What did I miss outside the highlights?

Played well first half and struggled a little in 2nd half but that can be expected as it was first start The rest of the team did him no favors as the Te
Fumbled and the next drive he hit the wr in the face mask for the int.
The defense was terrible.Burrow carved them up.

Yeah defense didn't show up at all. Decided they didn't need to cover anybody, make the rookie in his first start have to win a shootout.

I think Ewers is a capable backup in this league.
He's not afraid of pressure, he moves better than his scouting report suggests, and he's got some nice velocity on his throws. To me he's similar to Davis Mills of the Texans. He also reminds me a bit of Andy Dalton. Still don't think he's the answer, but I am looking forward to seeing him these next two games.

I agree, his throws had nice velocity and a clear difference from what we've seen lately. I do think the best QB for right now is starting. That doesn't mean he's the long-term answer but I'm very glad he's getting a short audition to make his case as QB1 anyway.

Another thing to keep in mind is that he's a rookie and that was his 1st start. He'd be a different QB after 20 starts, so this playing time can only help him. If he becomes this team's long-term backup (or bridge QB until we land on a starter) then that's a great thing to have. He does seem to know the system and his arm/mobility looked pretty good.

I also liked in his interview after the game that he said he was comfortable out there and the game wasn't coming at him too fast. So a lot of positives.

I see a backup quarterback. One that isn't going to create a collective groan of doom should he need to play. He isn't afraid to let it fly, but I don't see a gritty field general that's going to carry a team to a win. I don't see a guy that you look at and say "he can beat us with practice squad receivers on any Sunday, in any stadium, under any conditions. So in short, I don't see greatness. The Dolphins live chat I was in while watching the game got a bit ridiculous from the lesser intelligent crowd. Some of them were calling him a superstar after the first quarter of football. Others were comparing him to Marino...I kept my hands off the keyboard and just tried to watch him from an objective point of view. I personally don't love him, but I don't hate him. I'm not enamored, but I don't feel he's a waste of time. He's way better than Skylar Thompson could ever be, and you take that from a 7th rounder. The one thing I didn't like was the fact that we were playing the Bengals defense and he put up the worst stat line an opposing quarterback has put up all year against that defense. I get that he's a 7th round making his first start, and that's exactly how he played. One of the INTs wasn't his fault, and our defense didn't help our cause by giving up three TDs in the third quarter, so Ewers as a Brock Pudry like game manager was out of the question. He damn sure wasn't going to lead an epic comeback (as that shouldn't be expected of him). But...With a reliable run game, some playing action, and a defense that can get off the field? I think he can help win you a game as a backup if necessary.

Just to add, I think the Tua effect had a lot of Miami faithful wearing rose colored glasses. We were so happy and excited to see a different face in there at the position that we're all willing to overlook his actual performance and still say he was better than Tua. I disagree that he was, but that doesn't mean I want Tua back in there. We need to really look at our draft options in April. Explore all avenues because we're officially back to ground zero at the position.

The grass is always greener on the other side, I get that.

For example, people here ranted on Tannehill for being inconsistent, not sensing pressure, etc. But boy could he take a hit! And that became so obvious when we realized that Tua couldn't take a hit. The same could be said for scrambling and running for the 1st down- with RT it was exciting, with Tua it's terrifying.

Ewers looked fairly accurate and threw with velocity...and we haven't seen that in many years. I don't think Fitzpatrick had that much oomph on the ball either, so it's been awhile. Ewers also didn't take a sack.

What does it mean? Nothing at all, it was a rookie NFL start. There's not much to be drawn from it other than saying it wasn't a complete disaster. He looked like an NFL quarterback out there.

I hope I am wrong but I don’t really see him as our future Qb.Most.likely a journey man bouncing from team to team but will see how he does in the next few weeks.
It would be a cheap alternative for a few years if he does develop into something more.

I agree, he might not be our future. For now, I'm worried about 2026, week 1. I really don't think it will be Tua so it's something the team has to figure out quickly.
