I don't think Ross makes this move without feeling confident that Harbaugh's a lock.

Take care McD...I wish you luck down the road. Maybe he lands a HC job next season with all the current vacancies.

Its the best thing for McDaniel too. He avoids the inevitable terrible year next and he keeps his reputation intact while being the most sought after OC.

I am a bit indifferent here because coach options out there seem especially week this year outside of Harbaugh.

All I want is SINGLE ****ING PLAYOFF VICTORY.

Harbaugh will break the playoff victory curse. Anything above that is the cherry on top.

Yeah, he likely pushed him out. McDaniel's lack of adjustments were his biggest failings.

There is no reason to trust this franchise. They won't get Harbaugh (who is a tad overrated anyway) and instead will hire some Vance Joseph type retread.

No. Harbaugh and Ross are close, he has ties to the entire family and he's always wanted one of the brothers as our head coach. From a business perspective though, he wouldn't fire McDaniel without preliminary talks- this is as good as finished.

You folks forget we almost got his brother several years ago. He quit Michigan to interview with Minnesota, but that was basically a game so he didn't interview with Ross first. The plan all along was to come to Miami and have Brady/Tua. When that fell apart and the tampering came out, he quickly went back to Michigan before he was caught up in the crossfires.

A Harbaugh coach has been Ross's #1 goal since buying the franchise. If McD is truly fired, this is a done deal.

He also failed to get him before that and got stuck with Sparano

Dolphins were absolutely not trying to get Jim the second time. Ross was on the level about wanting him to stay at Michigan and were tampering to try and get Payton. Zero reason tampering allegation would have scared Jim off.

Ross is just really really bad at this and we all should know this by now. No matter how much he wants him he will fail.

It’s not just Ross and Harbaugh. Alexander is receiving an in person interview with the Dolphins for GM. He learned under Ozzie Newsome at Baltimore.

    Fingers crossed.

If im Ross, the deal im offering to Harbaugh will be the highest contract in NFL history, and if he wants the title of president of football operations or GM, if thats what it takes to get him here, then so be it.

I know for absolute fact (from a prior member here who's now deceased) that once Payton fell through, the goal became Harbaugh. Ross fired Flores and two days later, Harbaugh suddenly quits Michigan. But Flores did the unthinkable, he turned down the hush money and starts telling a story about Brady and a yacht. Within 48 hours, Harbaugh was back at Michigan.

It was all staged- Harbaugh quit to interview at Minnesota....nobody quits before an interview. That was to open the door to Ross to swoop in and say, "If you've already quit and you're taking a NFL job regardless, you might as well interview here too." But they were so scared of Flores and what he might say, everything was put back inside the box.

I know this for a fact, at least it was relayed that way and my old friend was almost never wrong about NFL front office stuff. He knew everybody across the league and for like 15+ years, we'd get the inside scoops but be sworn to secrecy.

The Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel on Thursday, setting him up to be one of the top offensive coordinator candidates available in this coaching cycle.

But there’s also a chance McDaniel lands another head coaching job right away.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the Browns have interest in McDaniel as a candidate for their head coaching vacancy.

McDaniel has some history with the organization, albeit from a while ago. He was Cleveland’s receivers coach in 2014 under head coach Mike Pettine when Kyle Shanahan was the team’s offensive coordinator. When Shanahan departed the organization, McDaniel followed him to Atlanta and then to San Francisco.

Cabot notes that McDaniel has long been admired inside the Browns’ building and has been on the team’s radar for some time. The club will do its due diligence on McDaniel now that he is available.

The Dolphins became the eighth NFL team to make a coaching change since the start of the 2025 season when they fired Mike McDaniel on Thursday.

McDaniel’s ouster came days after the end of the regular season and after McDaniel held a pair of press conferences that focused on his plans to move the team in a different direction during the 2026 season. Dolphins owner Stephen Ross released a statement about the decision shortly after news of the change was reported by multiple outlets.

“After careful evaluation and extensive discussions since the season ended, I have made the decision that our organization is in need of comprehensive change. I informed Mike McDaniel this morning that he has been relieved of his duties as head coach,” Ross said. “I love Mike and want to thank him for his hard work, commitment, and the energy he brought to our organization. Mike is an incredibly creative football mind whose passion for the game and his players was evident every day. I wish him and his family the best moving forward.”

The timing of the change has led to immediate speculation that the Dolphins will be making a run at hiring John Harbaugh as their next head coach. The team has been linked to Jim Harbaugh in the past due in large part to Ross’ role as a major donor to the University of Michigan and we should learn soon if they’ll wind up with a different Harbaugh on the sideline at Hard Rock Stadium.

    Watched this video this morning…

After watching this, I thought to myself, maybe Miami is making a play for Harbaugh.

Now with McDaniel being fired, I’m confident we’re going all in for him.

Chad Alexander will be our new GM and John Harbaugh will be the new HC. I’m just that confident!

But he didn't quit Michigan and he clearly wanted a job. There is no reason for Harbaugh to want the job but back out because fear of Flores dirt. It just doesn't make any sense.

And if that was true then you can just add it on to Ross being competent before there is no reason for it to be so convoluted. Just hire him if you want him.

Not happy about anyone getting fired, but if we have an actual shot at Harbaugh, this is the first time in years I have felt like we don't have a cloud over our heads. Now that I have had that taste of possibility I'm expecting that ever present reality stick to beat me senseless any second...

I dont think tua is gone until the 2027 offseason.. deadcap if released this year 99 million..

    deadcap in 2027 - 34 million

And he has 54 million guaranteed this year

My prediction is he is on the roster at training camp and without the guarantee of starting. He will compete with ewers and possibly another veteran free agent — maybe mac jones, maybe kirk.

Jason Garrett, come on down! I wonder if Aikman has a relationship with Mike McCarthy as well. Can't say either one would excite me.

Hopefully we go all out for Harbaugh, but who knows what's really going to happen. I'd like to say it's not a coincidence that Miami waited until AFTER the Harbaugh firing to fire McDaniel ... but it could just be a big coincidence and time to let Aikman get a thorough review done. I feel like he was the final nail in the coffin.

As for McDaniel, super sad it didn't work here. He's a fun, likeable guy and had some genuinely good moments. But him stumping for that Tua extension was his own downfall as Tua's dropoff dragged him down with and he wasn't strong enough to stand on his own. If he doesn't land a HC job immediately the easy thing is go to Detroit and wreck the league with that offense. He could probably learn a ton from Dan Campbell as well, like how not to abandon the run game when it's working.
