According to multiple reports, the Dolphins will release Chubb. Unless the move is given a post-June 1 designation, the Dolphins will have nearly $24 million in dead money on the cap while realizing over $7.3 million in cap savings. Chubb joined the Dolphins in a midseason trade in 2022 and had 22 sacks in 41 games for the team. He missed all of 2024 with a torn ACL, but returned to record 8.5 sacks for the team last season. Once the move is official, Chubb will be free to sign with any team looking for some veteran help for their pass rush in 2026.
That sound like the old Khols commercials that would say, "I bought it on my Kohl's card and saved 15%, and because I used the in-store coupons and shopped the red-dot specials, I saved more than I spent!" $24M in dead cap is $24M in dead cap. There's not a true $7.3M in savings, LOL, we're losing $24M in flexability.
Tyreek Hill just also got released. they were both scheduled to be released, some of us mentioned as much during the season.. The savings are evident by releasing them both and we are in a rebuild.. there is no savings for releasing Tua, he carries a large dead cap number which is why i kept saying he is likely here for another season..
Tuas dead cap numbers: 99.2 million dead cap space in 2026. 31.8 dead cap space in 2027 No chance he gets released this season. Theyll have to wait till next season. Theyre already absorbing a combined 52 million in dead cap space by releasing Chubb and Hill. theyre likely to release lesser contracts soon. theyre not going to release Tua and make this a 150 million dead cap season
Yeah, that was the entire salary cap for a team ten years ago, and about half the cap today. No reason to absorb that hit all at once.
Trading Achane and Waddle should be next. If you look at Green Bay's running backs they are all 230lbs. If you look at their receivers they're all 6ft and pushing 200lbs.
Waddle and Achane are both still relatively young and I feel you could build around them but if a team were to offer you a 1st and a 3rd for one or the other, you wouldn't consider it? Especially since Sullivan has already stated he wants to build the team through the draft for hte long haul?
Certainly hope we don't trade Achane, but I guess it's understandable if we do. Waddle can go at this point. He's not a number one and I don't think he ever will be.
It has to be explored. They have already stated numerous times that they want big, strong, fast and tough players. If they're really bringing the Green Bay philosophy down here, those guys certainly don't fit that category. Even if they do like them, by the time Miami is even a little bit competitive, those guys will be well past their prime. This is not going to be a quick rebuild.
While I agree in theory, Achane may be the best RB in all of football right now and he's still on his rookie contract. If he were to be traded, it would have to be for premium compensation. Waddle, he's a different story but should still garner solid trade value for a player or an early draft pick. I guess what I'm saying is that I wouldn't fret over trading either, but we need to get value for them. The rebuild is only long if you shed away assets for nothing (Tyreek, Chubb, etc).
Ill take a conditional second that turns into a first for Waddle if he becomes a 1200 yard receiver.. i liked Waddle in Alabama.. he hasnt been the 2022 version.. maybe the opportunity opens up with hill out.. if we stick by him i think he can turn it around.. but i would like to target someone with size, a red zone threat that has the strength to make physical catches on contact, opposite side of him..
As for Waddle and Achane, it’s all going to come down to WHO are we going to be on offense? Achane and Waddle bring incredible speed. That’s a trait you can’t coach. You either have it or you don’t. If our offense is going to value speed, then those two can certainly be a major factor in our rebuild. If our offense is going to be punch you in the mouth until you break, while you can benefit from said speed, their speed becomes a non factor. But with the two being WHO and WHAT they are, there are teams out there that could benefit from them. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if you saw McDaniel out a bug in Harbaugh’s ear to explore getting Achane. I could also see San Francisco explore getting Waddle. He already knows the offense for the most part. The thing is though, and it’s not that I want to cast them off to sh1thole island, but I’d rather see them go to teams that we know will finish in the cellar and give us a higher draft pick for the trade. God I can’t stand the thought of Achane or waddle in gang green. Ok gotta stop posting while drinking. I’m rambling
Achane is the only player on our roster that can get us multiple firsts in a trade.. Waddle is the only player after him that can get us a potential first.. after that, we arent getting much in draft capital on the rest of the roster
