Thread to discuss U. of Central Florida Knights athletics. Go Knights! UCF Athletics official website: http://ucfathletics.cstv.com/
UCF tragically lost a student athlete this year. The first post of this thread should appropriately be a rememberence. RIP Ereck Plancher
UCF Football starts it's season August 30th and looks to overcome the loss of RB Kevin Smith to the NFL while defending it's Conference USA title. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/education/orl-fbcucf3108jul31,0,6910142.story
RIP Ereck However on a very side note I did beat my friend 50-0 in NCAA Football 09 when I had UCF v.s. USF. Best of luck this year Knights
For those of you UCF'ers that don't know....... One of our own UCF Grads is part of the U.S. Beach Volleyball Olympic team. Good luck to him! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Dalhausser UCF has been a strong area for Beach Volleyball play for as long as I can remember. THere have been quite a few players that ended up challenging the California boys for spots on the AVP tour.
Definitely sad.. RIP. and FYI, It appears he wasn't going to be wearing 28, Latavius Murray had already been given that number. It's going to be a little strange seeing the number 28 on the sideline this year.
A buddy of mine, we're from the Central Florida area (Rockledge), played volleyball for Long Beach State. He was an All-American. While he didn't go to UCF he is from the area. He currently plays out of the country and is an alternate on the USA Indoors Men's V-Ball team.
http://ucfathletics.cstv.com/genrel/082208aab.html Dalhausser/Rogers did it. A UCF club volleyball player and Beach player won Gold at the Beijing Olympics Congrats to the Golden Knight!
On to football! UCF named it's starting QB. A transfer that originally was a N.C. State Recruit, Michael Greco. He beat out the Joe Weatherford (the brother of FSU's Drew Weatherford) for the starting job. He dosen't have very big shoes to fill as Kyle Israel wasn't exactly a top QB although he was efficient. The real question is which of the Freshman RB's will be able to fill the void left by Kevin Smith. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/knights/orl-collegeqbs1808aug18,0,3195485.story
Greco should be much improved from last season. When ever he came into the game last year he looked shaky. Now he has a full year in the playbook, and word from camp is he looks much improved. With Kevin, and now Philip Smith gone, the running game is a big question mark.. but we had a great class of RB come in. Murray or Vance King could be Starting RBs instead of Defensive guys. Unfortunately, Aiken is going to miss close to 4 weeks... Not having him for USF sucks.
Good luck this year. Maybe you guys can help us win the C-USA by winning the last game of the year to put us in? It would be great if we both came into our game at the Joan undefeated in conference play. I don't believe that will happen for us. I'm downright frightened to have to throw against your secondary.
OH YEA! ITS GAMEDAY! 3AM, the out of towners are already parked outside the BrightHouse. Man I love football season. I have UCF winning 8-9 games this year. I think we lose to UM, BC, and USF...(heart tells me we destroy them, gut tells me we lose).. in conference I think we only lose to Tulsa. If we were playing ECU and Southern Miss on the road, I'd be less confident, but coming into our house, I think we can keep them down. The Marshall game is going to be much like 2006 I think. Memphis would love to get some payback for the absolute domination they faced, but they just dont have the talent. UTEP got thrashed by buffalo.. nuff said. June Jones and SMU looked awful. I'm sure they'll get better, but with one of the most experienced secondaries in football, we should eat the freshman alive. As I said before, Marshall is really the only school in CUSA that I could be happy for if they represented the East.. I can't stand ECU.. mostly good fans, but extremely over confident. SIDE NOTE: Anyone in the Central florida area. Tickets for SC State are buy one, get one free.. so come check out the only Trampoline in football!
Man i wasn't able to get tickets intime for the game. I couldn't find it on TV, does anyone know if there is a website i can watch it on?
Yikes.... That was an ugly win against a Div. 1AA opponent in our home opener. Hope they were just looking towards USF and were a little flat. New QB and the loss of a starting NFL caliber RB may be a crippling blow to this team this year though.
Any of you guys have hope for this game tomorrow. I'd love for us to stick a sock in the mouths of USF fans but I don't see it happening. Inexperience at the QB and RB spots likely will be too much of a problem to overcome. We may get spanked yet again. Certainly weren't any promising signs in game 1.
Great day for Florida football today. Two instate matchups. Good luck against USF, and I guess we'll see you next month.
Thanks for the luck! We'll need it! Tomorrow night has the potential to be a really painful night for me. I have deep ties to both UCF and Miami. I went to UCF and played football for them. I grew up in Miami and am a huge Cane fan. Became one that Orange Bowl Natl. Championship upset over Nebraska back at the beginning of their run. I'd love to see em knock off the Crocs but I see those odds just about as bad as my UCF team knocking off USF.
Wow, I see what you mean, playing for one and watching the other. It's a long shot to win, but stranger things have happened. Hopefully we'll both be happy campers later tonight.
Frustrating weekend. Canes, Knights and Phins go down to hated rivals. I'm going to curl up in a ball and look forward to better football weekends to come.
Dang..... that's 2 Jet fans as UCF supporters on here. Glad you became a fan of UCF though. I played a ways before bro. We were Div. 1AA then and I only played 2 &1/2 years before switching to beach volleyball with another friend of mine from the team. Needless to say my name is not a famous one with the program but I'm proud of my time with them nonetheless.
Greco fan huh? Not sure how he's going to turn out just yet. Would sure help us to land a solid QB prospect. Moffitt and Israel while good guys, just didn't cut the mustard as players IMO.
MY GOD! Conference Champions who threatened to beat Texas and played an SEC opponent toe to toe in a bowl game last year, 1 year later getting tarred and feathered by a bottom dwellar Conf. USA program. P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C.........
Is this a joke or a real comment? Just curious... I don't think they are looking to get rid of Oleary but you never know.
Mostly joking, I doubt they would sack Oleary for one bad year after winning the conference the year before. I sure as hell wouldn't be sad if they got him though.
I really hope Southern Methodist doesn't give you any problems, I hope you guys show 'em how it's done! Go Knights!
Hey... how did you sneak in.... welcome dg, I'm glad you joined us. We have another lady from PA.. femalefinfan, she will be glad of your company.
