just out of curiosity what's the ratio here? how many own an xbox360 and how many a PS3? xbox360=microsoft, correct? ick. I've heard it breaks, too. which do you prefer?
Both. Sports or non-exclusive games I go with 360 since they're mostly in 1080p. The PS3 I use mostly for Blu-Rays.
so if i primarily plan madden (which i do) then 360 would be what you recommend? i'm scared of the red rings of death.
I would go with PS3 for the fact that PSN is free and 1080p doesn't mean squat unless you have a 50" screen or larger. Even then its not a huge deal. The 360 is cheaper but with the Xbox Live fees it ends up costing more than the PS3 over the long run so don't let the price fool you. Plus the general theme among gamers is that the PS3 is hitting its stride whereas the 360 is on a downward turn. The 360 is great as well and you can't go wrong with either system I just think the PS3 has more up side. Whatever you do research the ins and outs of both systems before buying and choose your favorite because we gamers are biased.
PS3, I might be the only person on the planet who shunned Xbox because of the RROD. I work too hard for my money to buy something I know in all likelihood is going to break.
I hear you, I just wonder how much fun it is when it's in a box being shipped to Microsoft. Like I said, I just can't bring myself to do it. If they do a better job with their next console I'll probably buy it. Now that Bioshock is on PS3 there's not much I want to play that I can't on PS3 anyway.
play station network - their online service which is free XBox has Xbox Live, which is 49.99 per year
I'm a little more hands-on than your average guy. When my 360 RRoD'd, I bought one cash at Walmart, went home gutted them both and swapped the insides. Took the bad on bad to Walmart for a full cash refund and said it was RRoD'd out of the box. Issue resolved.
I did the same, I actually had the money and the opportunity to come out of the store with a 360 in September of last year but it was gonna be an arcade and I chose not to buy it, I decided to wait til I had more money for the pro. But then I read all about the RROD and decided to pass. March of this year I got my PS3 and I'm not looking back at all.
You don't honestly think that do you? I'm pretty sure that was a major factor for thousands of people when they decided which one to buy, I know it was for me.
Have all three. And each have a little part of my gaming heart. If you don't feel like dealing with RROD then go with the PS3(plus you get a blue-ray player).
If I had the money to do that at the moment, I would have done the same. Instead I get to go a month without it...
I have a PS3 because I've always been a Playstation guy. That said, I've been thinking about picking up an XBOX arcade for the last little while. $200.00 is a damn good deal.
If he just wanted to play games and not online he could. I guess so at least as that's what I've heard.
mainly i'd be buying it for football. i'm not gonna lie. i don't necessarily care about online play but if i do no way i'm paying for it year to year. what's the cheapest you can get a PS3 nowadays? Has the price dropped much? are blu rays really that much better than dvds?
What I'm saying is that if he already has a PS3 that could be his online system and the 360 could be used for just those must have games. Of course I don't know if that is why he wants a 360 but if it is that is a good model to follow.
$399. Also I guess your decision comes down to online play. If you don't want to play online the 360 should be your choice because its so cheap. However if you ever want to play online and don't want to pay I would go with the PS3. That decision will be all on you though.
i'm just looking to gather information for both systems here. right now i'm leaning towards ps3 because online play is free and it does blu rays without any kind of mods or add ons. the remaining questions i have are the above "blu ray > dvd, really?" and "where's the cheapest I can get it and how expensive is it?". I can't afford one right now but if I'm going to get one I want the best for the $. 399 holy &#@! it hasn't really dropped. why's the XBOX360 so much cheaper?
Blu-ray >> DVD Go to a local used place you can get a ps3 around here for $300 or less. Or craigslist or ebay. Xbox isn't much cheaper in reality, but the reasons it is cheaper are: no standard HD, no built in wireless, cheaper technology (not that it shows).
Basically hardware. Also most everyone prefers Blu Ray but they cost more than DVDs. Also here is a great site you can sign up with and get gaming deals: Cheap *** Gamer - Cheap Video Game Shopping, Video Game Sales and Video Game Deals: CAG
