Rap Fan Sentenced to 20 Hours of Bach

Andrew Vactor was facing a $150 fine for playing rap music too loudly on his car stereo in July. But a judge offered to reduce that to $35 if Vactor spent 20 hours listening to classical music by the likes of Bach, Beethoven and Chopin.
Vactor, 24, lasted only about 15 minutes, a probation officer said.
It wasn't the music, Vactor said, he just needed to be at practice with the rest of the Urbana University basketball team.

Champaign County Municipal Court Judge Susan Fornof-Lippencott says the idea was to force Vactor to listen to something he might not prefer, just as other people had no choice but to listen to his loud rap music.

Ok you just got in trouble and went to see this judge. Do you put up with 20 hours of classical music or pay the fine? I appreciate all kinds of music (almost) but don't want to be forced to listen to something so I pay the fine.

I'd listen so long as it doesn't physically damage my hearing. Saving $115 doing nothing is a pretty big thing.

listen to the music. is this something that even needs to be asked? you could put the worst songs imaginable in my ears and if i was basically making 115 dollars I'd listen to it.

    best. job. in. the. world.

I'd listen to the music without any doubt, but I'd request Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev... However, if I were sentenced to 5 mins of top 40, I might just opt for the death penalty instead...

As much as I think any rap music regardless of volume is a punshment for those around it I don't necessarily think that 20 hours of classical is a good punishment either. I think the guy should have been given an option of at least a constructive punishment - work a shift or two at a soup kitchen or something comparable.

If you are going to use taxpayer money to even have the guy stand before a judge at least get a value out of the situation.

It always helps to have a good system in your car and death metal on standby. If they want to play, oh we can play...try drowning out my double bass and blast beats mofos! :pointlol:

Can't blame you if your listening to the radio. The music is terrible on there. CD's or an iPod hooked up to the system is the good choice.

Personally I think its an awesome punishment. Irritates the hell out of me when people decide that if its good enough for them to listen to then certainly everyone else around them must want to hear it as well.

Listen to whatever you want, just dont make me hear it too.

I think that describes Rap to be honest lol. It is a bunch of so called sentences slapped together and read off of a piece of paper. There's "artists" who make absolutely no sense and have pointless lyrics, yet they still make money. (i.e. Mims, who repeats "This is why I'm hot" like eighty one times in one song and makes millions). I like it somehow though.

hey, when I drive around I pump Springsteen at full volume, so people can understand and appreciate what good music actually is. It's my way of giving back. :hi5:
