Seriously, I can't see us trading for him, things are moving in the right direction without him. WRs are always available throughout the draft.

Handful of Lions considered trade bait - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Seems others have noticed this too. In this article, four NFL team executives weigh in on who they think may be traded soon. The thing I found interesting about this article is that they don't think Miami is a possible landing spot for any of the players mentioned. Including Williams.

If he's available 'wholesale', I think they make the move (assuming wholesale is a 3rd or less...)

But that's more me than Tunaland and co....I agree that they are less inclined to give up draft picks, sensing that other than most of the starters, our depth in general is weak...

Because our front office sucked at the time . Though our current front office misjudging Wilford so badly is a bit scary :). But getting Bess makes up for it?

I wish we would trade for him he is a big threat and a good all arounf player. But things are going in the right direction right now so I guess we dont really need him. I would not mind holding on to the draft pick so either way if he is here or not I will be happy.

Bess doesn't make up for it IMO, especially when Wilford was expected to start. Bess isn't that good a K/PR, and he is like a #4 WR, maybe a #3. You should be able to find #4 WRs late in the draft or through UDFAs.

you guys are nuts. of course you should trade for him if he's available. a 2nd rounder for a proven commodity? hell yes! how many WR come out of college and are an utter bust? we might have one in our midst already in Ginn.

that said, you can't give detriot anything they want, but williams is only like 26, you could sign him for another 4 yrs. I would say he's worth a 2nd, why not?

I would agree. I think we gave Wilford a good amount of cash as well.

Right now Bess is our #3. But maybe you mean he would be a #4 if someone like Williams comes the the phins, and I agree.

If you are Derrik Hagan you are saving every paycheck you get, because I can't imagine him being around next season unless he plays for cheap.

It depends, I think he can add a new dimension to the offense, but I'm not willing to pay too high of a price. A 2nd rounder and nothing more.

They better do their homework before they consider giving up a draft pick for Williams. There's other stuff than talent with him lol.

I don't believe this will be the motivation to make a move for him or not if he's available for "wholesale". The suggestion that Parcells crew "aren't in the business of giving up draft picks" is misleading. I don't think they give up draft picks lightly but the trades for Ferguson and Fasano/Ayodele disprove this statement insinuating that they won't budge when it comes to moving draft picks. Interesting by not surprising a writer would overlook such a fact.

I think this FO is into value. If they can get a player they feel is clearly worth more than the value of the pick given then they won't hesistate.

To me it comes down to their feelings on Williams' attitude.

Their diagnosis on whether they feel his attitude can be attributed to him lasing out at being stuck in a long term losing situation Detroit which could be rememdied by a change of scenery or whether he's just a malcontent will have a lot to do with whether they pursue him.

Pair that with whether the FO really feels this is would become a contending team this year in trading for him or whether they still feel this is longer term rebuild that would dictate waiting to persue Williams in Free Agency next year.

**Edit** LMAO, just saw its one of Armando's articles so no surprise at all the flimsy logic.

I just can't see giving a 2nd for him. We have 2 2nds again this year and look what we got with them. I'm sorry, but I don't want to give up cracks at quality rookies for a WR.

The thing is that your getting a top tier receiver for a draft pick. You give up a second and you still have another second. Can you get this type of receiver in the draft? Yes but its very hard to find one like Roy. Despite Roy's struggles this year, I think you have to consider him if you can get past some of his character flags. (Calling out/not talking to teammates, bashing organization, publicly saying he wants out, possibly not playing as hard as he could, etc)

I'd rather draft some secondary with the high picks. Bess and Camarillo were undrafted pickups and they are hands down our most consistant recievers. They aren't elite, but then again neither is our own first round 9th overall pick either.

That's a good point but do you potentially waste a draft pick, whether its early or late, on a WR that you don't know how he will pan out (i.e. Ginn) or would you give up one draft pick to get a high-profile, top tier WR?

I just come from the school of thought that just because Wayne was garbageman doesn't mean we have to keep picking up everybody's trash for 2nd round picks. I'd rather let the guys who called the picks this year and gid such an outstanding job have a crack at it again next year with as many picks as possible. They hit pretty big this draft, and I feel they could pick an elite WR if given the opportunity to do so.

GF, I'm with you on drafting players and doing a good job but if you want to build a good team, which we are trying to do in this case, you can't do it all on draft picks. You have to have some veteran experience to go with youth on any level of football. This isn't another teams trash. The reason the Lions are shopping Wiliams is because they feel that they can't pay two WR's top money. This guy is a really good player. I think if you can get this guy for a second or a third which is being rumored, you have to consider it BUT you have to do your homework on him because not only are you trading for this guy but your going to be investing top dollar in 15-20 so weeks. Like I said in my earlier post, if you can get past his character flags, you really have to consider him because of what he can bring on the football field.

Seems like they did a good job trading our 4th round pick for value (Fasano and Ayodele). I have faith that if they traded for RW that they'd be making just as good a decision as they would be with the pick come April.

The Fasano and Ayodele deal already had Parcells and Sparano ties. If they were linked to Williams it would be a no brainer, since they aren't I don't see it being likely.

I think it owuld be great if we traded for him because let be realistic we are probably going to draft a lot of defensie player next year and not focus on offense till the 2nd day. So would'nt you rather get a wide reciver in Roy Williams that you now will help in the rebuilding process and he is a great player. He will als

.Give give defenses some thing to worry about when playing us.

. Take pressure off Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams

. We will have another big target to power through guys

    . Good blocker

Spending a second round draft pick on that would be great. Or would you rather get some one that you have no idea how he is going to do.

The character flags aren't Adam Jones-like but they are something to read up on. He had trouble with his teammates this past off-season where he wouldn't talk to them and was being very awkward with them. He had a small argument with a fan in TC who said something to him which wasn't appropriate. He called out his QB on the field and then bashed the organization saying its cursed. His play hasn't been as good as it can be this year (specifically talking about him, not including poor performances from Orlovsky/Kitna) and you have to wonder how much that does with him constantly losing in Detroit. I think character is important for every player but I think if the flags aren't legal troubles like the Bengals, you have to look for talent over character at times. I'll be honest with you, if this was Anquan Boldin we're potentially trading for, I'd give the second rounder in a heartbeat. With Roy, you do have to do your homework on him but I think they would be willing to get past some of the flags.

I would say give the recievers that are here already the rest of the season and see how they peform. At the end of the season if the recievers are still a weakness you go out and sign Roy Williams in the offseason.

While nothing is definite, he may not be available in the offseason (if he even is right now), or he may even cost more after the year.

I think it is worth the risk to take a chance on him now with a 2nd (since we have 2). Aside from maybe Crabtree or Maclin, I don't foresee any WR comparing to RW from the draft. With that said, I don't see us taking a WR in round 1, and both of those guys would be 1st rounders. So if we were looking to get a WR in the 2nd (which isn't even necessarily likely), why not just get a guy who can come in right away and produce, and be our #1?

Salguero has a mancrush on Roy Williams, not a bad read surprisingly.

I believe Armando has a mancrush on Roy Williams, maybe he IS an attractive prospect for the phins, but would it be necessary at this point? Some tidbits for his argument:

Miami Dolphins' next move should be bold.

    Here is my argument:

The phins, having continued success over the past two weeks have been utilizing virtually unknowns in the passing game. They're focusing on the strengths of the personnel wisely, not trying to make them play out of their element.

We all pretty much know Pennington's abilities as a QB, not really going to stretch the field but can make some decent 30 yard throws. He's no Favre, Marino, or Montana, but he's going to make those smart decisions limited to his abilities. You look at a guy like Ted Ginn, who most of us think could happen to break out anyday now, likely isn't going to IMO.

Ginn, known for being one of the speediest guys on the team could most likely run the 40 yards by the time Pennington takes a 3 step drop and a couple steps forward. But could Chad get him the ball in stride? Not likely.

So why bring in a legitimate #1 receiver threat whose abilities we couldn't utilize?

    Beats me.

IMHO, the reason you bring a guy like Roy Williams is because of a few reasons. I think they bring him in because you have a consistent guy who can get open and catch the balls that guys like Ginn, Camarillo and Bess can't. You bring him in because he opens up the offense for not only the receiver on the opposite side of the field but for the run game. Teams are not able to stack eight in the box when you have a Roy Williams out there. Teams must respect Roy Williams out there, no matter the QB.

Before one is to criticize Pennington's arm strength, what you have to know is that Pennington can throw it downfield. No not like Favre but he can throw it down there once the receiver gets open. Favre for example throws it in double coverage while Pennington throws the ball when his receiver has the separation from the DB. With Roy, he can run those routes to get open downfield and Pennington can get him the ball. A guy like Ted Ginn, who sometimes struggles to get off the LOS, isn't the same case.

Furthermore, your not bringing in this receiver for just one year. If your planning on trading draft picks for him, your planning on keeping this guy for a while to help build for the future. Roy is still young and in a year or two, Chad Henne will likely be the starter of this team or at least is planned to be. Your bringing in this guy for Chad Henne so he has a go-to-guy once he gets his chance.

Pretty good argument, but Pennington has been efficient with the receivers he's had, manageable on 3rd downs and they have been getting open.

Can't argue with most of that, but the whole downfield thing I still yet have to see it to believe it. Also what do you define as "downfield"?

To me the price is just too damned high when you can get similar prospects through the draft, Roy has proven to have 1-1,000+ yard season so far, being in the NFL in one of the worst teams has to have taken a toll on him. I'm sure he's excited about free agency or getting traded, but would the dolphins be willing to put up draft picks for him... that's to be determined.

Your correct that they have been getting open but do you think we can take the next step with those receivers? In my opinion, no but your entitled to your opinion bro.

40+ yards is all he would be asked to throw IMO and I think he can do it.

Too high for a proven receiver in this league? Why spend a draft pick on a receiver when you can get a proven one for a second rounder? We have another second rounder.

If they do their homework on the player and feel comfortable with what they're investing in, then I wouldn't be surprised if they made the deal. However, the character flags that I brought up earlier in this thread could make Ireland and co. stay away from Williams.

His longest pass of the season went for 33 yards, 23 yards in the air and 10 YAC.
PROOF HERE Look under header "Good Feeling".

He's proven, this is his 5th year in the league. I know receivers can last quite a while in the league. He has the experience, there's really no knock on him that I know of, besides character issues. I trust in the big trio to make the right decision. Randy Moss went to the patriots for a 4th rounder. We got a 2nd and 7th for Chambers. Now if we could get him for a 4th rounder HELL YEAH pull the trigger. 2nd and 7th?? ... way too steep.

How can we get him for a 2nd rounder?

To me going through the draft is the best bet.

Willing to bet they won't pull the trigger on this deal, unless they get him at a good price.

I think you misunderstood me. I said I think he can make a throw for 40 yards.

I read a second to third rounder in an article. Where'd you read 2nd and 7th? I agree that we should draft players but I think if you have a chance at a proven player, you go after him. He makes this offense better. I rather trade a draft pick for a proven WR than go in the draft and get one. JMO.

Can't argue with that. IMO, a second or third rounder for Williams is a good price.
