We might see Lester pitch game 6 depending on the situation. Yeah the bottom of our line up is sad right now. Coco looked great and I would not mind switching him and Ellsbury however u are taking Drew out. Our manager does not have an easy choice ahead of him.

I left when it was 5-0 to drive to my parents to watch the rest and eat dinner with my little brother. In traffic on the way at a red light a guy in a jeep pulled up next to me and had on a Sox shirt and Hat. He say my Sox hat and said we suck through the window then we rolled the windows down and he said he was so mad he had to leave the house. I thought it was pretty funny. Another true Sox fan in Atlanta, he must be a transplant also.

seriously?!?! you think tampa fans are obnoxious? you should checksee your own fan base first. Holier than thou attitudes.
My buddy is in charge of security for all the oakland a's games and he says the absolute worst games for him to get coverage for, are the red sox games, cuz their fans act like uncaged animals. He has to have 3 times the security force than for any other games during the yr.

Well it's looking like the series is potentially over. I can't say I'm surprised, as I wasn't very confident in this team before the series started. The Rays just look like a team of destiny, like the Angels in '02 or Marlins in '03. If we lose to them you have top tip your hat, not blaming anything on injuries by any means but it would have been interesting if Lowell, Drew, Ortiz and Beckett were all healthy but hey that's baseball.

Anyway on to the game, I turned it off after Longoria hit the home run in the 3rd as I knew it was over, especially since the inning before the Sox had runners on 2nd and 3rd and 1 out and between Varitek and Cora they didn't push a run across. I do realize Varitek has lost a lot of bat speed and is pathetic at the plate but can the guy catch a ball? This has been his 3rd past ball this playoff already, it was a huge run at the time and who knows how the game would have went if Lester got out of the inning without giving up a run. I still don't understand why Alex Cora is getting starts in playoff games. It's Alex Cora! I realize Lowrie isn't having a great series but his potential outweighs Alex Cora.

It is also tough that Francona for whatever reason is probably been the worst at managing this series since the 2004 season. Seriously none of his moves make much sense and he's been very lucky on the ones that have.

Oh well tomorrow is another day, if Wakefield wins maybe I'll be singing a different tune but right now I think it's over.

Of course he has to have 3 times the security force than for any other games during the year because the Red Sox draw the most amount of people at road games because their fan base travels well and the fans of the home teams want to see them play against the Sox. More people automatically makes more security. If the Royals drew the fans the Sox did there would be 3 times the security too. And of course I'm sure the fans in Oakland are pleasant and never start anything ever.

I also love how the new thing is for people to knock the Sox fan base, it's the new thing to do now that the Yankees have been a non factor the last few years. Yes there are bandwagon Sox fans, it happens to every franchise when teams start winning, that say and do dumb things and act like their team is the best but again it happens to every team. Do you think there has always been 30,000 Ray fans in the Tampa area? Or all of those Rockie fans last year? Every team has fans that act like jerks and of course people are going to knock the team and their fans if that team wins. Just wait and see what people say about the Rays fans if the team is good for an extended period of time.

Tampa has been better than the Sox all year long, they deserve the success they've had in this series. I agree that its probably over.

No excuses. Tampa has outplayed the Red Sox, but I also agree that this series would have been a whole lot more interesting if this Sox team wasn't quite so beat up.

    That sounds like an excuse...

Both teams are banged up. Upton and Longoria are both knicked, and even scouts are saying Kazmir has elbow issues.

This series isn't over. The Sox could very well win the next two games and win 1 of 2 in St. Pete. Still have a long way to go.

Longoria is not hurt and either is Upton. At this point in the season everyone has knicks. Kazmir has been having problems with the elbow since the start of the year when I talked to him (Very Nice guy).

Injuries are a part of baseball and should not be an excuse. I think we are just saying tho that it would have been interesting had we been healthy. Lowell injury is the one that hurts the most imo

Also this series is far from over. Hopefully the Wakefield that can't be hit shows up tonight.

Bypassing the obvious reasons on why I'd prefer Beckett being 100%, Beckett brings intangibles amd one of which is being the Leader of this pitching staff. More important than Lowell. Lowell has his role no doubt but Beckett's role just overshadows his. But I guess it's all moot to you because we wouldn't have even sniffed at acquiring Josh Beckett if you had your druthers; you'd rather have Hanley Ramirez.

Red Sox lineup tonight (career numbers against Sonnanstine):

    1. J.D. Drew, RF (.364, .364, .727)
    2. Dustin Pedroia, 2B (.200, .294, .267)
    3. David Ortiz, DH (.188, .235, .375)
    4. Kevin Youkilis, 3B (.083, .143, .167)
    5. Jason Bay, LF (.200, .167, .400)
    6. Mark Kotsay, 1B (.000, .000, .000)
    7. Coco Crisp, CF (.300, .364, .400)
    8. Kevin Cash, C (.500, .500, .500)
    9. Jed Lowrie, SS (.600, .600, .800)

Thank god Ellsbury has been moved out of the leadoff spot, his inability to get on-base in front of Pedroia was killing us.

Ortiz needs to step it up tonight and hopefully Crisp can continue to swing a hot bat.

93 years ago yesterday, Babe Ruth led the Red Sox to a 4 games to 1 World Series victory over the Philadelphia Phillies. There could be a repeat, but the Sox better get it going.

It's shocking that everyone is begging for Coco Crisp to get back into the lineup. Remember last year when everyone was ready to kill Francona for sticking with Coco over Ellsbury? I really don't think putting Coco in there is an upgrade, but I guess we'll see.

And put me in the camp that would rather have a healthy Beckett this post season. Even going back to the ALDS if Beckett is 100% healthy is there any doubts he would have beaten the Angels in Game 3? Think about that for a second, the Sox sweep LA, and don't have to use Lester, and maybe he's stronger for his start vs. TB. Also a healthy Beckett vs. TB probably would have changed the series as the Sox could be up 3-0 right now. Of course this is assuming everything falls into place.

Also I was on the sign Varitek for 2 years bandwagon earlier this year but now I'm seriously considering offering him a 1 year deal with an option to make him the back up and use one of our prospects not named Lars Anderson for some of the Rangers catchers.

Another point, when the Coco/Bard/Riske for Marte/Shoppach/Mota trade went down I was totally against including Shoppach for Bard in the deal and wondered whether the trade could have went on without that swap. Well I wonder how this team would be right now if Shoppach was our catcher. Granted he's had a career year and may just be a small sample size and might not be that good (think Josh Bard in '06 for SD) but then we wouldn't have a catching problem for the next few years.

Lowell is not a leader? Lowell also brings a gold glove over to third and let Youk play gold glove first base. Lowell can protect other batters and hit HR's. I was just giving my opinion. Beckett is a great pitcher and I would love to have him healthy as well. Yeah when it comes to long term I would take Hanley Rameriz anyday of the week. Being as I watch a ton of Marlins and Red Sox he is the cog that makes the Marlins go. He does it all and at the time it was a major weakness for the Sox. Obviously it did not happen that way and I am very happy with us getting Lowell and Beckett in that deal.

Well this is interesting: The Rays will start Kazmir in Game 5 and push Shields back to Game 6.

A little strange in my opinion, two thoughts to this:

1.) The Rays aren't confident in Kazmir pitching well so they're moving him up to face the Sox 'best' pitcher right now in Matsuzak and are seemingly going to up the game and head back to TB with Shields facing a hurt Beckett in Game 6.

2.) Shields may be hurt and the Rays are pushing him back to give him extra rest.

Again this is pure speculation on my part but it doesn't make much sense to me right now, plus it has a chance to back fire in the Rays' face.

I don't believe sorry. The '04 and '07 teams were just different. Minus Schilling's ankle in '04 both of those teams are pretty healthy, this one isn't. I'd be shocked if the Sox come back from this. Tampa is just a better team right now and they're embarassing the Sox.

"Aw hell Lou, they were a different team last year." -- Major League II

This team ain't coming back. Kudos to the Rays, they've given the Red Sox no reason to believe they can win this series.

When Coco hit into that DP in the 2nd with runners on 1st and 3rd with 1 out, I realized again what a mistake the Red Sox made by trading for him. Looking ahead, he needs to go, along with Varitek, Timlin and Wakefield. Furthermore, I know scouts are talking up Lowrie's bat, but color me not impressed by the guy. I think we might need to consider upgrading that position, especially considering that Ortiz isn't the same guy he was in 2004.

General rule of thumb, you always take pitching over hitting. If we don't have Beckett (and Lowell), we don't sniff a WS title in '07. We all understand what an absolute stud Hanley is, even more so after some of the SS that we've seen come through Boston in the past few years (Lowrie included), but this team would make that trade again tomorrow if they had the opportunity.

It sounds better to have an extra Lowell or other great hitter in the lineup, but you have can a lineup full of All-Stars and team leaders and if Josh Beckett is having a good day they are all going down, no matter what.

I want to Boston make a run at Mark Teixera this off-season. FIPL I think Lowrie will be a good player IMO too early to make a judgement about him.
