I don't think you'll see that. I bet the Sox talk to Boras to try and drive his price up to some teams (NYY, BAL, LAA) but with Youkilis on 1st, Lowell at 3rd and Lars Anderson who's a legit power hitting prospect a year away from the big leagues there's no room for Teixeira who will want at least a 6 year deal for 15 to 18 million a year. Plus Youkilis was just as good as Tex this year, is younger and cheaper too.

Wow to say this win isn't big is an understatement. It is also a brutual loss for TB being up 7 runs with their best relievers on the mound and couldn't close the game out. Saturday's game should be EXTREMELY interesting. If the Sox can somehow push it to a Game 7, I like our chances. Should be interesting to see if this effects TB in any way. I'm sure it won't be fun for them to hear about '04 and '07 for the next 24 hours.

And hey even if we lose in Game 6 or 7, at least the team showed some life and heart and gave us at least one more great win.

Tampa fans wanted to see the Sox spanked out at home in the Trop anyway.

    Death march continues IMO.

Holy Crap, the Red Sox won????!!!!!! I was at a sport's bar and it looked like it was over. I left a little too soon. Wow, what a comeback. I am not sure if my Phillies would rather face Boston or Tampa now?????? The Red Sox we have faced and we kind of know what to expect, but the Rays are a big mystery.

Hopefully you will play a couple of very long extra inning games and both teams starting and relief pitchers will be dead for the World Series, whoever we face. :tongue2:

You gonna beat us down with your cowbells?

Huge win guys... we need Beckett to fight through whatever is holding down his velocity on Saturday night. Just extend the series, anything can happen in Game 7.

Wow, what a choke job that was... now THOSE are the Tampa Bay Rays we all know.

It's a good question. I say you have to go with Beckett because Lester could really use that extra day of rest. On top of that, we're going to have to win a Beckett start regardless of whether it's Saturday or Sunday.

That said, I could easily see the other side of the arguement.

Yeah it does not matter which one starts becuase we need wins from both of them. However who ever starts on Sat really needs to help out the bullpen.

I think that's a solid way to look at it. A couple good innings of Beckett should scare the heck out of the Rays. Another overlooked thing is that HR may have just awoke Big Papi. I wouldn't want to face this guy Sat. night with runners on.

Well, after 86 years, you all sure have figured out this playoff thing....as Yogi said, it aint over till its over.

No longer do you look for the "whoa is me, we will now lose for sure stuff" (aka Cubs); its more like, ehh, if we lose we lose, but no matter what as long as we have a game to be played, we can continue to win.

congrats on that.....its a nice little series you and Rays have going. looking forward to Sat!

I'd go with Beckett but have Paul Byrd warming up after every inning because the first sign of trouble, you take Beckett out asap. I don't think it was strange that the Sox had Byrd throw in Game 3, it set him up perfectly to pitch on normal rest for Game 6.

I think the key to Game 6 is the Sox have to come out swinging the bats and need to score as soon as possible. They need to put TB behind early so it gets in their heads a bit. I'm not sure if last night will bother TB but if the Sox put up a 2 or 3 spot in the first I could see them getting rattled.

If Beckett comes out throwing hard and not 91-92, I will feel much better right from the start. Interesting to see if Coco will be back in against Shields tonight.

Coco has to start tonight. Right now it's all about riding the hot hand and Coco has been on fire lately.

Again I do think that Francona won't be gun shy about pulling Beckett. I think right now if you're a Red Sox fan you'd sign for Beckett going 4 innings and giving up 2 runs.

Great. Just read there is a power outage in Atlanta therefore the game is not on.

Edit: Coco did get on base with a bunt but was picked off

Unreal. Beckett is by no means 100% but pitched on pure guts and was very very good. Okajima, Masterson and Papelbon were great too (although I'm worried Paps was only sitting at 91-92).

I've been killing Tek all post season but I'm sure glad he came through tonight.

Game 7 with our ace Lester on the hill. He needs to give the team at least 6 innings, hopefully 7 innings tomorrow. Win or lose it's unbelievable how these Sox teams keep coming back from the dead, hopefully their run and magic lasts a few more games this year.

Caple made a pretty good point in his piece this morning. How does a guy on the D-Rays get the nickname "Big Game James" (0-2). I thought Beckett had a nickname, but I forgot what is was, with all the James Shields talk...

To be fair James pitched well in both games this series but it was still dumb of the TBS crew to give him that nickname. Although we're talking about TBS here so it's not real surprising I was shocked that didn't start calling Jason Bartlett, Big Hit Bartlett after his HR last night.

Beckett's nickname was Big Game Beckett.
