Good series guys, and I'm not just saying that because of the outcome. I would have been the first one saying congrats if it went the other way, which it easily could have. You guys have a good team and stand up players. Hopefully we can meet again in the playoffs next year, these games have been great, the best out of the 3 series.

Good series guys. Thought a game 5 was going to be necessary having a man on third with 1 out.

Lackey basically blamed the offense after game 1, then after game 4 when asked if he'd wait to see what the Angels did to improve the offense before signing an extension he said "absolutely". Douche bag, the guy pitched well so his frustration is understandable but throwing the team under the bus twice in one series is a bit much.

Interesting, the announcers did say numerous times during the game that he kept barking at the fielders after their errors/misplays and was glaring at them. I'm sure it was more frustration than anything though, the guy finally pitched well in the playoffs against the Sox and had nothing to show for it. I wouldn't take what a player says after a tough loss to heart, I'm sure if the Angels showed him the money he'd stay.

I am shocked at how bad Howie Kendrick played this series both in the field and at the plate. As an outside I think the Angels main problem is they have too many slap hitters (Figgins, Kendrick, Aybar, Iztrisus) they need some more fire power in that line up. Of course it probably would have helped if Teixeira, Vlad, Anderson or Hunter got an extra base hit.

    Good series guys.

The Angels are much more resilient than I thought... coming back to win that game on Sunday against Beckett and fighting back in the game last night.

Also, I agree with Ray that the Angels need to get away from the small ball mentality. It seems as though that style doesn't necessarily work in October.

It shocked me how he played. He just looked completely over matched at the plate and uncomfortable in the field.

The strategy can work as it has in the past but what they really need is a 2B/3B/SS guy who has power or a decent hitting average to complement it.

If Figgins played how he did during the regular season last year, or Kendrick kept his .330 average going after his DL stint we wouldnt be having this conversation of needing a new infield.

If they let GA walk though there is talk of moving Figgins to LF and bringing in a new infielder; such as trying to trade for Uggla or Atkins.

Perhaps. I dont really think Aybar is the reason we lost this series, but OC was happy in Anaheim and he loves playing for Scioscia so maybe he'd be willing to come back for cheap. I dont think replacing Aybar wins us a championship, especially when we're about to have a large hole at 1B and possibly 3B. Unless of course Aybar or Kendrick are part of any trade the Angels make. In which case OC would be a great signing to fill one of the holes created by losing one of those guys.

These guys are young, they didnt really step up in the playoffs this time around. I dont think that means we should give up on them.

I think you guys need a new corner OFer with power too. You got nothing out of RF this series and Anderson was just a singles hitter for the most part. Maybe someone like a Raul Ibanez might help at least for next year. I'm pretty sure the OF free agents are weak but get better after the 2009 season.

Now that some time has past,I can't believe our Halos are done for year.I'll admit before the playoffs started I was feeling pretty good about making it to the WS.I think with all the roster moves and trades I have to consider this season a disappointment/failure.

Our Angels will have a lot of decisions to make this off-season.I would think our entire infield is in question.I'm not sure Aybar and Kendrick are the answer up the middle.Howie can't seem to stay healthy and Aybar seems better suited to be a 2nd baseman then a SS(JMHO).At 3rd base what do we do? is Wood the guy for 3rd base? At 1st base can we sign Tex or does Morales get the nod? I have spoken my mind on the K-Rod situation, thank you for your services Francisco, good luck in FA.I'll be surprised if G.A. is on the team next year even at a reduced rate.

I dont think you can restructure contracts in MLB. The only way GMJ is gone is if they cut him, in which case they'd have to pay off his entire contract I believe? Assuming no one would trade for him, or claim him off waivers. My knowledge of how MLB contracts work is quite limited, so if anyone knows please correct me.

That's right. There is no way that the MLB union would let the Angels restructure his contract. Remember back in 2003 the union refused to let Arod rework his contract so he could be traded to the Sox.

The only thing I'm not sure of is it the Angels release him and someone claims him, I believe the Angels still owe him all the money and the other team would have to pay him the league minium.

The GMJ situation reminds me a lot of the Gary Gaetti situation.
After the 1990 season the Halos had enough of Jack Howell playing at 3rd base. Howell hit .228 with only 8 homers and had a .939 fielding % in 1990, which is awful:tantrum:. So a new third baseman was needed.
Gary Gaetti, a two-time All-Star from Minnesota was availible in free-agency. So the Halos signed him to a 4-year, $ 8.5 million contract, which back then was a huge one. Now there may have been warning signs about how good he really was. During the 1987 World Series win year, he hit 31 homers, but only had a .305 OBP. In his last year in Minnesota he hit .229 with 16 homers, a . 274 OBP, 22 double plays hit into, and a weak .650 OPS.
In his first year, 1991, Gaetti hit .246 18 homers, 66 rbi's, .293 OBP, .672 OPS. Somewhat disapointing, in a .500 (81-81) team that finished last in the west. The expensive Gaetti contract, the trading of Devon White for Junior Felix, and the signing of the ancient washed-up Dave Parker got both manager Doug Radar and gener manager Mike Port fired. In 2002 Gaetti got worse hitting .226 with 12 homers, 48 rbi's, .267 OBP, .629 OPS, and a poor .929 fielding % at 3rd base.
The lousy 1992 had the Angel front office determine that Gaetti was not up to the job any longer. Gaetti played in 20 games in the first two months of the 1993 season, and played poorly hitting just .180. Gaetti was released on June 3, 1993. Gaetti lingered for the ten day waiver period, then signed with Kansas City on June 19, 1993. Kansas City was only responsible for the minimum salary for the 2nd half of 1993 and all of 1994. The Angels had to eat up the remaining $ 3 million due to Gaetti.:pity:

Picked up the options of Vlad and Lackey today, and bought out GA. Will be sad to see a guy who has played his entire career in Anaheim walk. Hopefully he retires, though I dont think he's really done.

Some rumors, since this thread got bumped:

Angels expected to offer Tex 6 or 7 years at 20 mill per. Some are saying the Nationals might throw 10 years 200 mill at him, if so, have fun losing for the rest of your career.

Also rumored his wife isnt necessarily thrilled w/ the idea of living in SoCal...must not be the smartest lady :wink2:

Moreno has decided to let KRod walk, might look at Cordero if they dont think Arredono can handle it.

Angels interested in trading for Garrett Atkins and moving Figgins to LF

I've seen a few places talk about Randy Johnson coming to the Angels as a replacement for Jon Garland.

We really need to find a way to keep Teixeira. If we dont resign him, hopefully he goes to the Nationals so I can hate him for taking money over a decent playing future.

Atkins would certainly be a needed upgrade. Plus, he's from SoCal so the roots may play a factor. Though I wonder if Figgins could move to 2B or maybe even SS considering Angels have a glut of OF's.

We lost our OF depth cause GA and Juan Rivera are both gone I believe. Think they might try to bring GA back but a reduced salary though.

Angels are holding off on making an offer for Teix. They knew Boras wasnt going to let him sign during the restricted rights period no matter what the offer was, so instead of giving an offer that Boras will use to drive up his price w/ other teams the Angels are waiting to see what happens once other teams jump in the mix. Seems like a smart move to me. Hopefully the Yanks go after pitching so hard that they cant drive up the price for Teix too high.

Really need the Yankees to get CC. They wont miss out on two of their top targets, so if they lose CC they'll throw the kitchen sink at Teixeira.

And a little info on the type of contract Teix will be looking for.

Miguel Cabrera type deal is better than an Arod type...

I wonder how interested the Angels are in Manny as a fall back guy if Teix leaves.

And an article that scares me into thinking he'll be a Sox when it's all said and done :pity:

I dont like this talk of the Angels giving a "fair" deal while I keep reading about the Red Sox preparing a monster offer for Tex.

With Lowell/Ortiz/Youks/Teix who's the odd man out? 4 players for 3 positions.

8/160 seems like a good offer to me, will the Red Sox go higher? And what's Seattle doing getting involved! My guess is just trying to make the Angels overpay.

If the Angels are serious about going to another WS they should be willing to do whatever it takes to sign Mark.If Tex does go somewhere else I'd love to get Manny for 2-3 yrs.

Scott Boras is now GA's agent...wonder if that'll scare other teams away and make us the only interested party (assuming we're still interested at all).
