Well, I believe Williams was always one of those backs that did better the more carries he got. It always takes him a bit to find his groove. However... Ronnie is a better runner.
I been wondering the same thing ricky has not been getting the ball ever since ronnie had his 2 good games...
Been used as a decoy in the Wildcat more than a runner IMO. I think he should get more carries if he is effective. If not, than keep feeding Ronnie the ball. Our record is better when Ronnie gets 20+ touches.
That's the problem. I think Ronnie and Ricky are both those types of backs that do better as the game progresses. I think you need to pick a guy and stick with him for the majority of the game. And let the other guy take a couple carries here and there. I think Ronnie needs to get the bulk of the carries with Ricky getting 5 - 10 a game to spell him. Not sure what the breakdown has been lately, but it seems like it's been a little to split down the middle with neither one really getting a chance to get into their groove.
I think because of the Wildcat, Williams carries have been diminished...They have dynamically changed the run game and RW doesn't seem to be a part of it...He does seem to be a little slower in the start (first 3 yrds) than he was in preseason and early in the year...maybe a nagging injury of some kind ??
The Ricky I know used to bust through holes and be a beast to bring down. This Ricky seems to still be in "Wannstedt-mode", if you know what i mean.
Brown is the man Ronnie Brown is the reason we beat the Pats and Chargers. Our defence only stepped up when he was getting big momentum plays every drive we had in those games. Not taking away from Ricky Williams but he cant deliver the big hits to spring him free anymore. He has had field rust ever since he got suspended. Brown will develop into a great back if we can get some big time WRs to take some pressure off the running game. You dont think LT could do it without Gates, Chambers, Jackson at wide out and Darren out of the back field to give them more looks then just him. And I like Pennington but all the players play up cause they know he cant get it down the field to Ginn, London, Camarrilo, and Hagan so they are always set to stop the run and everything short.
Since preseason Ricky looks like he's lost a step or two to me... simply put, if he were gaining more yards, they'd play him more. When they do play him, he's falling down at first contact, not playing the hole; he's just not the Ricky we all remember. This is the NFL, and when you're given your chance (again and again) and you don't make the most of it, you're not going to get more.
Ricky's doing ok given the limited carries they're allotting him. Look at their game logs, pretty damn similar save for a few small differences. Of course Ronnie gets the nod in red zone situations but Ricky has done ok for what they're asking of him.
Yes, but that's my point... "for what they're asking of him." They'd ask more if he delivered more, wouldn't they?
Week one both RW and RB had 47 yards, combine.Week 2 /53 yards, week 7 /43 yards. That says more about the line then our running backs. Were going into week 8 and we still don't know for sure who our starting RG is, and lets not forget Justin Smiley being called out by Jeff Ireland on the radio. As far as RW, when he came back to us in 2005 he looked like he lost a 'lot of power and a lil speed. Now it's looks like he's just not as quick, ether. When your a Running Back and you can't make the 1st guy miss, your days are numbered in the NFL.
