Ok mybe not but i think most of us can call a random play with tom brady Randy moss moroney and get 20 yards see this is what im trying to say these coaches are not head coaching material: Josh Mcdaniels Cam Cameron & Jason Garrett what did they all have in common? GREAT players....Lets get a tough guy in here that demands respect. dont you guys agree with me that OC get too much credit just because they have great players?

McDaniels was Brady's QB Coach, you think he deserves no credit?

So you're going to ignore the fact that he helped run an offense last year where Reche Caldwell was pretty much their #1 WR last year but still took them to the AFC Championship game...right...

Or the fact that he has been the OC since 2005 after Weiss left, plus he's got a little experience being a defensive assisstant when he coached the DBs in 2003.

Please!...NE, like them or not, have a quality coaching staff top to bottom. Whether or not any of their asst coaches can be successful HCs remains to be seen. But they're all quality technicians, without a doubt.

    Forget McDaniels

Weis was the OC during their 3 Super Bowl wins. How did that translate into coaching success at Notre Dame? It hasn't. See Nick Saban. Look at Eric Mangini. another guy with almost no coaching experience promoted to head coach far too soon because of his tenuous connection to the mad genius Belicheck. McDaniels wasn't the OC in 2005, the Patriots didn't have one. The rumor was that McDaniels was calling the plays, but so what? The guy has all of four-years experience as a full-time coach. He spent two-years as an assistant position coach on top of that. Do the Patriots have a quality staff? Of course they do. But forgive those of us who tend to think that most of it is Belicheck, because everyone but Belicheck is interchangeable. Ask Parcells, he hasn't been to a Super Bowl, or conference championship without Belicheck as his defensive coordinator.

And to credit McDaniels with even a little bit of Tom Brady's success is fatuous. Utterly ridiculous. Brady was a two-time Super Bowl MVP and Pro Bowler long before McDaniels became the quarterbacks coach in 2004! Crediting McDaniels with last year's Patriots offense is reaching too. His leading receivers may have been Caldwell and Troy Brown, but generally speaking, the Patriots' skill players weren't much better during their Super Bowl years--anyone remember David Givens, Deion Branch (a mere 35 receptions for the season in that last Super Bowl year), Larry Centers, Christian Fauria, David Patten? Tom Brady has been making chicken salad out of the proverbial chicken $h!t without the services of Josh McDaniels for quite some time now.

Weiss got to Notre Dame with an under performing team when he got there, and got them going and helped develop Brady Quinn further. Sure the Irish had their worst year under him but he's just starting to bring in his own recruits.

As for Mangini he did guide the Jets to the Playoffs last year, any team can go from the playoffs to the bottom just like that. Once both coaches get their own players in, then we'll be able to better assess how they have done.

    Re:

The only players on this year's Notre Dame team not recruited by Weis were the seniors. That's a ridiculous excuse. Ty Willingham could make the same claim about turning around an underperforming Bob Davie squad. Willingham went 10-3 his first season in Notre Dame, then was fired two years later for fielding teams not nearly as bad as the one Weis coached up this season. As for Mangini, I don't get how you can praise a guy for winning with Herm Edwards' players, then losing with many of his own. Remember that Edwards made it to the playoffs in 3 of his 5 years in New York, and he was widely panned as an awful coach. He had the same record in his first season in New York as Mangini did. It doesn't mean much. Coaches often exude competence, even in defeat, Cam Cameron did not, and neither has Mangini, but that is purely subjective on my part.

Myself, I think it's more than just that. I do agree with your 1st post in the thread (see my 1st post). But the coordinators are basically technicians. You have to know your Xs and Os and be innovative. But the HC has to, additionally, be a great leader. He has to have the kind of personality that inspires people.
