Bioware was moving on to different projects. Obsidian was made up with some of the best programmers and most passionate gamers at that time. They were competent. How do you know those bugs were even there on the first day of testing? How do you know that the bugs weren't there until day 10 because of a bug on the first day of testing fix caused a bug that wasn't found out until new content was put in on day 9? Or that the bug fix would take longer than a day. Sometimes it takes a while to fix a bug. A game that big needs time. LA was greedy in trying to capatilize on KOTOR I success and trying to get the second one out in a year, when it should of had 18 months minimum of time. Obsidian made the mistake of trying too to put in too much. They should of scaled back and just made the graphics prettier and worked on the story.
I know Bioware was moving on but they still gave Obsidian tech help in figuring out the engine. Yes, it was a rush job but this rush job still reeks of a bit of laziness. The PC game was inexcusably buggy. You literally could not finish it and how it even got past testers is unbelievable.
I do not know anything about the PC game. I am talking about the Xbox game. There is a huge difference between building the engine and getting tech help from a team that moved on. How many dudes did they send to help them out. I would be surprised if it was more than two. Hell I would be surprised if it was more than one.
And you magically know that they were working hard. And yes I do know someone at Lucasarts who's currently an intern there. Well, there you go. There is a huge difference. Any programmer can tell you it's harder to build from scratch than it is to use someone else's engine. People are doing it right now using the Unreal engine.
seriously you guys are arguing an old game.. lets talk MMO... BTw.. you know just cause you go sith you wont be bad right?
I read articles and did work on Mass Effect as a tester which gives me a perspective on how hard it is to build a game that big even after the engine is complete. Of course that is true. Building your own engine takes months to years. Using someone elses cuts that time That is true, Mass Effect was built on the Unreal Engine. It took them a month or so to get that one down.
I ran into a HUGE bug on KOTOR I that almost made it so I had to start over. I was one of those people who chose Mission on the single quest and then was stealthed when she made it to the main character. They had a bug that the main character had to make an awareness roll to be able to continue the conversation. I had to bump up the awerness of my main character and after 5 minutes she finally saw her. Kotor 2 I did not run into any bugs that I remember. I did think the ending felt a little rushed and I hated the idea of after building up my party of going to face the end villain alone. I really did love the first half of that game.
Yep you can be the dark side and do good things. Or be on the good side and do bad things. Adds alot of variety. This game has tons and tons of potential. The star wars universe is so large and easy to expand on.
It's just a shame it's not a plain RPG like it's predecessors. Of course the whole Revan and Exile business makes canon very tricky not to mention what's going on with the graphic novel series. I didn't want to play WoW because of the subscription fees and that it's too addictive so I'm not 100% I'll even buy the game (still have bad memories from Star Wars Galaxies).
KOTOR2 for PC was a horrible release. It was filled with game breaking bugs and a crap load of technical issues. The Xbox version ruled.
we should all become sith lords and form our own sith council and take over the galaxy. my RL is going to ****s when this games comes out.
yep, i'd rather have a game i can play a little bit at a time and be fine with it. don't want to be like "oh sorry guys can't go out tonight my horde is going to take over a corellian corvette at 9:30.." i just don't have the time to committ to an mmo fully
i feel the same way after WoW but sometimes its so hard to resist hahah. esp when you are so close to leveling.
I can agree with you there. I mean I will play it becuase im a star wars nut. Though I would of been just as happy if not happier with the old rpg KOTOR. Though I figured after a while and hearing a mmo rumors I knew that wasn't going to happen
Well I might actually get this now that I'm reading more about it. No love for the Jedi's? I will bring you all down!
As a premed I barely have time for games as it is much less an mmo. One of my roommates that I had for a summer internship pretty much wrecked his med career after WoW. I'll give it a trial like I did Galaxies but I really gotta force myself to not get obsessed with it. Fortunately, Galaxies sucked in the beginning so it was easier to kick the habit (this coming from a guy who also bought Gungan Frontier).
Same here. If its cool I *might* give it a go... But odds are no matter how they make the combat and that its Star Wars if its the same FedEx missions (bring me this, go kill that, give that person this) I will get bored just from the trial and that'll be that. Maybe its just that I am getting old (er) but games that are just about levels and loot and make me pay a monthly fee are boring to me now. If it'd be free, I'd go crazy...hell I even really like Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom...but if you make me pay an endless fee for it then no thanks. We shall see if they can correct the FedEx part of it and maybe then I'll bite.
Why? My understanding is that this will play like a single player KOTOR experience WITHIN an MMO setting.. That sounds completely EPIC to me!
I said looks! I don't like the art style 1 bit. After reading more about it, it sounds alot better than first thought.
