Get a Moto Q. Touch screens suck, imo. I've had two and I'll never get one again.

I just got one a month ago....

    LOVE IT!!!

Highly recommend it. yes...it has a touch screen, which sometimes is a pain, depending on what you're doing (answering/making calls is a snap even with the touch screen... it easily locks/unlocks, texting and the address book scroll is a chore from the external touch screen) ... but the internal QWERTY keyboard is exactly waht I needed. 5 stars IMO... good voice quality, texts/emails are a snap with the QWERTY.. and web browsing is excellent. The screen is big enough to see most of any web page.
The TV is about average... but I don't use that much anyway.
The ONLY thing I don't like about it so far is that you can't use common .wav files for alerts like text messages ..etc... I have a "Law and Order Gavel" .wav that I loved on my old phone... couldn't get it to work on the Voyager. Other than that... I am VERY happy with it.:up:

My brother just got a LG Dare and he loves it. I have used it a few times and i like it. I guess it depends on what u "need" in a phone.

Don't get me wrong, the touch screen concept is great. Just wait till it's in your pocket and you are calling people everyday unknowingly, even when the screen is locked. That's what kept happening to me, it was very frustrating. Plus the slightest moisture or dirt, etc. on your fingers and it makes choosing a function/number very hard. At least that was my experience. I switched to the Moto Q and absolutely love it. Same features, just w/ hard keys.

The phone I had was the Samsung Glyde. Maybe that model was just a p.o.s.

I spent the last 8 years in the wireless industry, and this is what I'm getting when my plan is up, Joe: The Samsung Instinct, with Sprint service.

$79 with rebate right now, and Sprint has - bar none - the best deal on total package wireless. Their network isn't bad either; not as extensive as ATT and Verizon, but hey - you really need coverage in some podunk town in the middle of nowhere?.

3G, touchscreen, expandable memory - this phone will carry you through at least the next 2 years without obsolescence.

    My $.02

    Meh,

Switch to AT&T and getchu a Treo 750. No need to even want a Laptop anymore..and my laptop didnt make calls....

Seriously though, I have two friends that have recently switched to LG phones (Dont recollect the models) and both are regular Cell-phone conisours...they both love and rave about them.

Note to Nabo: If you ever come to Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado or Texas you would wish you COULD get service in those tiny little towns. I used to have Voice-stream (Forget what they turned into? T-Mobile maybe) and me and mama would drive from Tucson to Dallas. We wouldnt get service from the time we left our driveway, until 20 miles this side of Dallas...absoluty rediculous.

I just do not have that problem with the Voyager... at all. :dunno:
when it's locked, it's locked... and while it's quick and easy to unlock, it isn't something that happens while in your pocket. Admittedly, I usually carry it in a holster.. but if I'm wearing a jacket or cargo pants with side pockets, that's where it goes. It's a bit too big to carry comfortably in my front jeans pocket, and I won't put it in a back pocket, because I'd end up sitting on it.

Advice: get a few screen protectors for the touch screen.. they're not expensive, and last quite a long time... and protect the screen very well.

Verizon's plan is perfect for me and my entire family, and as far as their network goes... I find myself in some pretty remote areas sometimes (Blue Ridge Mountains, Poconos, etc), and never have a problem getting a signal... hell, I even get a signal on the subway in NYC... something my AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile using friends can't say.

Yep, agree. Never ever had that problem with my Treo. I do also carry it in a holster which is good for sooooo many reasons.

Also, Jon is spot-on. The little clear plastic screen protectors are a MUST, especially on one like mine with the Stylus.

The Sprint network isnt bad, its horrible. Not just because I work for their competition, because theyre losing customers at an insane 4-1 port out rate in the northeast (which doesnt include their Nextel brand port out rates). Maybe its better in other areas of the country but from what Ive read the port out rates are pretty consistent.

Sprint has a good data network but for calls...Fail.

I sell more LG phones and Blackberries then anything else right now. Personally I like the Voyager if you want touchscreen and a keyboard (and since I do a few thousand texts a month) and I use the Vcast mobile TV when Im bored (no NFL or MLB but you get college sports, nba etc).

The Dare is great if you want only touchscreen as the touchscreen is accurate and seems to be very responsive. If you want to stay with a flip style phone, Id go with the Moto Krave (though texting is hard) or the LG EnV 2.

Ive been with Sprint for awhile here in Florida. Since I purchased the Moto i335, and cant recall a dropped call and I always have service.

I also have an ungodly rate because Ive been a customer for about 9 years. They dont even offer my plan anymore...

Blackberrys are a given due to the fact that they are the device equivalent of a lingua franca in the business world.

LG phones are GREAT phones, you cannot go wrong with one. Their market share is well-earned.

But ATT and Verizon...that's another story.

My ex and I still share a plan, and for just two phones without 3G service, messaging or any multimedia service whatsoever we cannot, no matter how hard we try, get the bill under 150 a month. I think that is ridiculous.

With Sprint, we might or might not pay that much for two phones, but we would have full-on 3G and all the perks for it.

    ATT sucks my ***.

(BTW, on the subject of handsets: I've been using a Samsung Blackjack for about 2 years now and LOVE it...my one complaint is that the keys are tiny for my fat thumbs to text with:no:)

PS: Stay AWAY from Sony-Ericsson handsets - FAR AWAY!

JT switch to Sprint, then look up HTC Touch Diamond. The Diamond is coming out for Verizon but it will be somewhat gimped compared to Sprint and AllTel. I just got mine a month ago it rocks..

I had sprint for less then 9 minutes when I had a consumer account. walked out of the store tried to make a call, failed. walked to my car, still failed. It didnt even make it the drive home. Just walked back in and returned it. Same with Singlebar/ATT. At that point just went straight to VZW.

Blackberries are a given because of where I work. Forget the business clients, I think every 6th grader on the North Shore of Long Island now has one....and their parents are probably cursing me when they got their bills. :pointlol:

Regarding LG and other phone brands be careful with what kind of service your carrier uses (CDMA which is what VZW and Sprint use, GSM which is ATT and Tmobile use, or IDEN which is what Nextel uses). LG makes GREAT phones for CDMA service but for GSM, Ive found them to be pretty brutal. Just like Nokia makes amazing phones for GSM but Ive found their efforts for CDMA to be pretty marginal.

As far as the 3G thing, Verizon has had a 3G network longer then anyone. Sure the services cost extra but thats just because they work just about everywhere (except under lead roofs in restaurants from my experience). They always advertised it as EVDO but it is the same thing.

Im not sure if the HTC diamond is the same thing as the HTC 6900 because I dont keep up with all the names but if it is its been on VZW for the last 7 months. :wink2:

Actually T-Mobile had the first 3G network in the US, but that's a quibble. V's EVDO came after, when even Sprint already had a makeshift high-speed net in place.

But Verizon did have the first VIABLE 3G net, for certain.

I used an LG CU500 for just under a couple years with Cingular; it was my field phone, and it was a champ. Had a Moto MPx220 before that, and it was tough as a brick.

Do you have access to data cables for those two phones? I have a bunch of pics and stuff on both that I still haven't downloaded.

:tongue2: LOL. I'm using an even older model FOMA F704i and it still does more than I need it too.

Internet, E-mail, phone, video phone, 3.2 megapixel camera, games, music, etc, etc and it's waterproof. I've got a 1 gb memory card in the thing as well.

I think we paid about $35 for it because it was an obsolete model and they were bringing in the new stuff.

I just need to convince the rest of my family that they don't really need the NEW stuff as it comes out.

HTC is just a maker of phones. They also make the new Google G1. The HTC Touch Diamond and Touch Pro are there newest smartphones. I used to have a HTC 6700, my Diamond is half the size and does twice as much. It also has the nicest screen on the market 400-800 VGA. Check it out, it should be out for Verizon soon.. HTC ? i like it a lot... id wait for the Bold though so you can have the 3G network...

I am getting my phone in a few weeks, i got back the 11th so prob the 15th... I am thinking about getting the Dare, for me it was the storm or the dare and well the storm is slow when you flip the phone to get to the keyboard and that gets on my nerves. I loved the dare after playing around with it. Questions i have is, how is the internet? is it worth an additional 15$ a month for internet? Also can i get music and set it as a ringtone off my pc or do i need to send it to pixplace, also can i set up separate ringtones for different people.
