Just saw it on ESPN, he'd be a good option in the late 2nd or 3rd round.

    Uh...thanks.

Why don't you tell us about him? Perhaps what position he plays? What team he plays on? Why you think he'd be good for the dolphins? You offer nothing...you expect us to go research him now? You made the thread, you should educate us.

    I'll give my opinion.

Fairly raw as he played 7-7 football in high school. Very productive WR in Hawaii's spread. Great speed and ok size. Probably will never be a go to WR, but the perfect slot WR in the pros.

He played 7-7 because he was in Juvenile Prison or Detention something (forgot the word). He was there for a year and was sent there because he was caught driving a car with stolen goods in it and was one of the main reasons he didn't go to a bigger college.

Bess will likely will project as a slot receiver in the NFL. First of all, he's 5'10 195 lbs, so he's likely not going to be regarded as a #1 type option. I expect most teams to look at him as a slot guy. Also, there will be questions if he is just a product of Hawaii's pass-happy offense, or if he has real talent. As someone else pointed out, he had some problems and ended up in juvenile hall during high school, so that will likely drop his stock a bit. Can't deny that he has been tremendously productive in the Warrior's system - 41 TDs and 3500+ receiving yards in 3 years. It'll be interesting to see where he is at with his other measurables (40 time, etc.) at the draft combine, and also if he demonstrates the maturity needed to overcome any perceived character concerns.

I'll be curious to see what type of 40 time he has, the little I've seen from him he seemed to have very good hands though. As far as the character concerns I didn't know that he was in juvenile detention, although I know a lot of people like Colt Brennan and I guess you'd have the same concern with him. Has Bess been in any since he went to college?

I knew he went to juvy, but I didn't know he played 7 on 7 there.

try 2-4. He was given a mid 2nd grade, and could be taken there with a good 40 time.

Not that I'm aware of, I think he's been a model citizen. I do know that there are a lot of players on Hawaii's team, Bess and Brennan included, that had character concerns that caused the larger D1 schools to avoid them. I agree with you, I want to see him timed in the 40. I've seen a couple of Hawaii games, and there's no arguing he is one of the more exciting players on the field. He's got good hands and can make some spectacular catches.

That's good to hear about him. I like watching them play on those rare occasions I get to see them and your right he is fun to watch.

On a side note I was reading about June Jones at work today and they said he actually recruits a lot of troubled kids and from what I heard he acts like a father to a lot of those guys. Another thing I came across and didn't know was that Brennan was actually at the U of Colorado when he was arrested, I find a lot of things out thanks to the people here at the finheaven boards :)

Good point - I do think he'd be great in the return game. 'Course that's why we drafted Ted Ginn Jr. :wink2:

The article about Jones is spot on - one of the challenges with the Hawaii program is that they just don't have the budget to compete with the large BCS conferences and schools. Just by playing Georgia they made 4 mil - which is twice their normal football budge.

You're correct, Brennan by no means is a perfect guy, and he had some major issues that led to his dismissal at Colorado. I won't go into details, but I'm sure you can find them if you're so inclined.

to be fair, Brennan did get a bit of a raw deal since it was in the middle of the Sexual Harrassment trial with the female kicker and Jim Barnett was getting in trouble for partying with the team and a bunch of strippers. Brennan was not in the right, but he did not attack or harrass anybody, he was just a scapegoat in that case.

Actually when reading about him where I found that out I learned some cool stuff out about him. Like that he had learned Samoan so he could call plays at the line and actually grew dreadlocks to bond with his receivers. I'm all for giving guys second shots and I think it's cool that a coach is willing to do that. About the recruiting budget they said during the Georgia game that Hawaii's is $50,000 and the top schools like USC, Michigan, etc are something like 10 times that. There are a lot of good stories about the Hawaii players and them turning their lives around.

I agree - and I would expect that June Jones does as well, which is why Colt was given a second chance. A lot of players in that position wouldn't have gotten that type of reprieve.

How many slot receivers do the Phins need? Ginn, Lo Booker, ???

I'd really like a big physical Mike Irvin type WR.

That is pretty spot on. Hawaii does not have the recruiting budget to go after big main-land talent. They go after guys with a flaw that big schools won't touch in hopes of turning them around. Which seems to be the case with Bess and Brennan.

basically what it sounds like. 7 offensive players, 7 defensive players. Pretty much scrimmage football.
