What is wrong with Herm Edwards? Not only did he decide to go for 2. He decided to do it before they even scored. I could read his lips while he was talking with other coaches on the sideline prior to the final TD. Way to always be one step ahead of your own offense. Why not kick the XP and go to OT? You wanna show confidence in your team? Kick the XP.
I disagree. You get 2 freaking yards and you win. If you go to OT you have a 50/50 to even get the ball and score. If you do get the ball, you have to go way more than 2 yards. Im always a fan of going for the win. He told his players to go out and win the game. They didnt. Cant pin that on him.
I didn't necessarily agree with the playcall though. I thought it took too long to develop and then in the end, they didn't have any open targets.
It was a stupid call you go for the tie and try to win the game show some confidence in your team by allowing them to try to win the game instead of gambling like that. It tells me that he has such little confidence that he doesn't think they have a chance in OT.
I thought it was a dumb call. Maybe Herm is trying to get fired. For a guy who's job is probably on the line, that was a pretty silly call. Tie the game, and put it in your teams hands in OT where they have a better chance at winning the ball game.
Your all missing the point. You say have confidence in your team and go to overtime. If you have confidence they can win in OT, then you should have confidence in them gaining 2 freaking yards! If they cant get 2 yards, they have no business winning in OT imo. And thats if they even get the ball. Well over half the teams that win the coin toss win the game. The Chiefs were not even garunteed a possession in OT! They may never even have sniffed the ball! Game circumstances may have been seeing the Chargers struggle, but so has the Chiefs D, including some last second collapses. Im sure Herm didnt want to take the easy way out just to see his defense wilt and watch SD boot a 30 yard FG for the win. I didnt see the actual play, so cant argue with the playcall, it may have been terrible as Alen said. But the 2 point call was absolutely correct and defensible. Far to many coached and team are far to conservative on things like 4th and short, 2 point conversions and other situations. Yeah it failed in this case, but it succeeds in many others. He went for the win, and his team came up short. I think Herm is a terrible terrible coach, but calling the deuce was a good call here.
except they missed the conversion and they never knew what would have happened had they went into overtime. sure the other team might win the kickoff. but then what? fumble? interception? touchdown? three and out? who knows? but you miss the two point conversion and you're going home. dumb call.
I wonder what Brian Billick would have done? BUAHAHAHHAAAA!!!!!!! WWGCD What would Greg Camarillo do!!!
Based on the situation in the 4th quarter, I liked that call. You're 2-7, what the hell do you have to lose? It was the right thing to do. If it went to OT, KC was NOT winning that game.. largely because they're an awful football team. When you're 2-7 and you have a chance to win the game, you go for it, no question.
Not a bad decsion, however the playcall was awful. Tony Gonzalez was held though, the refs should should have caught that.
The decision boils down to one thing. Do you want your chances of winning to come over the course of one play, or from 10+ plays?
In this case especially, ill take the deuce. You have a shot to win the game. The Chargers, whatever their failing, have a pretty solid offense. You have a pretty terrible defense. Win the game outright! I would NEVER criticize a coach for trying to win the game like this. OT just has way to many variables. Get 2 yards and win the game!
I like the call and thought Herm did the right thing. But first if the Chiefs had not missed the extra point earlier it would have never come to this. As for getting plays in OT, only if you are lucky, if you lose the coin toss your offense may not even see the field. It's the end of the game; I say go for it.
I loved the decision. You're 1-7, on the road, and played pretty well. So why not go for it? If they would have made it everyone would be calling Herm a genius. I liked the call.
