it has us taking: #1: Glenn Dorsey DT LSU #2a: Antoine Cason CB ARIZONA #2b: Fred Davis TE USC #3: James Hardy WR INDIANA While I think this mock is very unrealistic(davis and hardy will be long gone bafero we have a chance to pick them at late 2nd and early 3rd respectively) I love the picks; mostly because all of them make sence and fill team needs. actually that mock draft would be like a dream scenario at least in my point of view. what do you guys think?? here's the link: http://condraft.com/mocks/round-1.html
Hardy really depends on his 40 times. He's a big WR with great hands, but between his shoddy past and a poor 40 time, he could fall more than he should (especially with MIke Williams being such a bust, and Jarrett so far being ineffective and both were much better prospects than Hardy) that would be a great draft though
Yeah it would be great...but most of the picks will already be gone. I also would draft Chris Long over Glenn Dorsey.
Obviously between now and draft day so much will change, but hopefully the point of this mock and our reality come draft day is that we are sitting pretty to have some great additions and probably signifcant contributors to our 1st team depth. Clearly it will add to our existing 17 rookies on our roster (depending how many of those make it through camp).
Antoine Cason won't last until the 2nd round, and Fred Davis will not be around by the time our second 2nd round pick comes up.
Cason depends on 2 things 1)How many underclassmen declare. He's the number 2 CB behind Michael Jenkings. If Aquib Talib and Malcolm Jenkins declare, he falls to number 4. Plus some other underclassmen like Justin King and Reggie Smith are leaning towards declaring. 2)His 40 time. If he runs slower than expected he will fall farther than he should. But he should actually run faster than expected cause of the turf in Indy. A lot will change from now and April. At this time last year, Adam Carriker was given a mid second round grade (Went 12) and John Wendling was considered a 2nd (Went in the 6th)
If we get Long/Dorsey and Cason, I'm going to be estatic. If they get the two of them and Hardy, which is realistic based off the fact that Hardy is going to be over-analyzed and drop if he runs a lousy 40 time, I'm gonna cry tears of joy. I see it playing out they get Long (I'm convinced this is the direction Tuna's going in), Cason and a TE in Round 2, then go with a DT in Round 3 (Red Bryant, Marcus Harrison) and fill the #2 WR via free agency or trade. Or perhaps they go DT in Round 2 and pick up someone like Marcus Monk in Round 3.
I think if anything sinks Cason, it's going to be his 40 time. Guarantee you though, when it comes to shutdown skills, I haven't seen a CB more fluent since Champ Bailey. This guy is the real deal and is going to be a Pro Bowler for whoever drafts him.
I dunno, Newman and Trufant were both very good coming out of college. I think Cason,Jenkins, and Talib(heavy lean to enter) are all shut down CBs, as are Malcolm Jenkins (if he enters), and a healthy Justin King (had a bum shoulder most of the year so they stopped playing bump coverage). Guys like Tracy Porter, Charles Godfrey,Trae Williams,Leodis McKelvin,Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Terrelle Thomas, and Zach Bowman also have good number 1 CB/Great number2 or nickle potential. BUt there are a lot more CBs than that. I was stoked after our first day in Saban's first draft. Honestly, the only way I would have been happier is if we took Khalif Barnes instead of Matt Roth
I think you're underrating Cason here. The guy can flat-out play, and I believe he would be taken well ahead of Talib.
Check out the draft order: pretty much every team drafting from 20 through 31 is set at TE. If Davis makes it past #19, he's ours.

oh I know he can flat out play, but so can Talib. And if Talib runs the rumored 4.3 he can run, he'll jump Cason
Absolutely, if we keep the #1 overall, and the #32 you are targeting two legit starters no doubt. Lots of talent to pick from in the top #32 guys this year.
Right now, tonight? Fred Davis. IMO, Talib's stock will fall because he plays at Kansas. That's not a knock on the school, it's just a fact that if NFL teams are undecided between two players, they'll lean towards the one from the bigger program.
BUT, Talib played returned an INT for a TD to help a 21-1 Kansas team beat a heavily favored VTech team to win a BCS bowl while Cason was a great player on team that was not bowl eligible. It's an interesting debate for sure, but I think we can both agree they'll go way behind the Jenkins brothers right? (not really brothers, but you get the idea). And I personally would probably take Bennett over Davis, both really good route runners and really athletic. Bennett has a height advantage and is a pure TE
I don't think an INT on national TV is going to improve his stock much. It may convince a couple of GMs that he truly is worthy of a first round pick, but it's not going to put him ahead of Cason. And yeah, the first two CBs to be drafted will be named Jenkins. Well, right now I'd take Davis. Ask me again after the combine.
hey, if one good game on national television against Pittsburgh's B team can convince some of the members of this board we blew it by not drafting Troy Smith, I can think Talib getting an int in a BCS game makes him great still I'd take either him or Cason
LOL, yeah but keep in mind those same "new" owners would swear they have picks 1 through 32 in the next draft to rebuild their team since every person they list as a guy we should pick with our full compliment of 7 picks over seven rounds seems to be ranked 1-32. hahaahahahaha
In that case, it's Malcom Jenkins in one class and all the other CB on a different planet. Thing is though, right now you're assessing Talib vs. Cason and the two South Florida CB, in which I'd actually put his stock higher under this logic. Arizona has been garbage since Desert Swarm graduated and South Florida, while a growing program is neck and neck with Kansas, probably a drop below due to the Jayhawks making the BCS. End of the day, I sure hope that Cason's "lack of speed" and quality of program work against him and he falls to the Dolphins in Round 2. When he makes Pro Bowls, we all can thank the rest of the NFL for their oversight later.
Both were good for sure.. But to me, I think Cason's on a different level than those two were on at the same respective points in their career. I honestly think Cason's one of the best CB I've seen hit the draft since Bailey and Charles Woodson.. And I don't generally drop the "best I've seen since" label often.. In fact, I generally stray away from it. However, to me Cason's one of those difference makers that's gonna make every team that passes on him regret it horribly later. Put it to you this way, if he was on Ohio State, LSU, Florida or one of the upper echelon schools, I have no doubts he'd be the top corner off the board. I say this as a Penn State grad who saw quite a few games with him in it.. He's a boom or bust type guy. He's either really good or really bad, you don't know what your getting from one game to the next. I've seen him lock down receivers and all but eliminate the opposing team's passing game in one game, then get burnt to the point where he almost looked embarrassingly stupid the next.
