Interesting. I'd never even heard of the books, or really the movie until recently, and it seems like every time i see it mentioned it's teenage girls screaming about it. Guess maybe I'll have to look into it a bit more.

20-40 year old females screaming like teenage girls aren't really teenage girls. :wink2:

I think in the case of the 30-40 year old females it's called a "mid-life crisis" at least probably in my case. LOL! I fell in love with the lead male character for sure!

I think it's just like SW or ST FF, except instead of nerds living out their scifi fantasies, it's girls/women living out romantic ones. Western vampire mythology has always had a sexual/romantic component to it, which lends itself to emotional quandaries that women can relate to, and therefore read about and (possibly) enjoy. The basic story itself is no different than a thousand other 'bad boy with a heart of gold/lovers who can't be together' plots...sort of like West Side Story, but w/ Vampires and Humans instead of Sharks and Jets.:wink2: That's the draw.

I don't think the 'vampire' component is why ppl like it so much- it's the story. It's the same reason 'Romeo and Juliet' is the favorite Shakespeare play of most women- that element of forbidden/tragic love, nicely packaged and well-written.

*Of course, I'm just a guy, so what do I know....

    Therein lies the issue.

I'll still probably read the books. If I can find them at the library.

If you want vampires and good looking people go watch "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", the tv series, not the movie. Not only will you get vampires and good looking people, but you will get smart and funny tv with actual plots and meaningful relationships. Joss Whedon has done all that can be done with vampires. Its done with. Let's move on.

If "Buffy" did not have Sarah Michelle Gellar in it I might be able to make it through an episode but I think she's just plain lousy.

Really. I'm not sure it works without her. Part of it was because I thought she was absolutely gorgeous and she just seem to fit what the character was about.

I thought the spinoff "Angel" was just as good, in some ways better. She is only in one episode of that entire series. So that may be more for you. And I'm sure most women think David Boreanaz is a good looking guy.
