What is unrealistic? When I said they should be favored in every game outside of the Jets game? Which other game will they be the underdog in?

I could be crazy, but in the NFL, all 16 games are "key."

The Dolphins have already won a key contest, on the road against the Broncos. Now they have 5 "key" games left, which will determine whether they are a postseason "pretender" or "contender."

Regardless, it's clear that this team needs more pieces in order to become a Super Bowl contender, which is all that really matters.

Still, I think that it's premature to call them mediocre at this point.

You and a few others refuse to blame the Dolphins defense but instead say how the Pats are so incredibly talented that it's not the fault of our D's lack of talent, then you jump all over anyone who wants to blame the defense. You can try to twist things however you want, but you're just playing word games and it won't change a thing.

Who gives a damn what the oddsmakers say? We were slight favorites in THIS game but we still got our butts kicked.

No I didn't. I never said it was the Pats talent. You're just making things up now.

Well, the first three quarters were fun. The fourth quarter the team checked out mentally. You could tell. Dropped passes, injuries, etc.

Luckily we have the lowly Rams to beat up on next week...I hope.

No, they aren't. The games that are key are, for example, when you're tied for second place in your division and you play against the team with whom you're tied, in your house. If you win that game, you take over a solid second place and put yourself in a very good position to make the wildcard. If you lose, you're most likely out of the playoff picture. Don't be disingenuous by pretending you don't understand this.

Go play wordgames with someone else. Nothing you say will make our defense better or get this team into the playoffs.

I don't think that anyone is making excuses for the defense, or taking offense to that assertion. It's pretty clear that they were victimized today.

What most folks take offense to is the assertion that because of this game, the team is all of a sudden mediocre and worthy of being called "pretenders."

Miami went up against a divisional foe with a red hot offense that was looking to avenge an embarrassing blowout loss earlier in the season.

Sometimes, even good teams loose when faced with that scenario.

All I'm saying is that Miami still has an opportunity to reach the postseason. I don't think that's homeristic or unrealistic. It's just a fact based on their 6-5 record.

Sure our defense played poorly but the non calls against their offense holding and overall dirty play going for knees, helmet to helmet, and bad calls overall by the refs didnt help.

With the way this season and this division has been going this year I don't blame him at all. Somewhere down the line, points are a tie breaker for the playoffs. I'd hang a 60 burger on the Patriots if I could. :knucks:

It's not wordgames when you claim I said something I didn't. That's you making stuff up. I know this is a young team that is on the verge of something good but still has a lot to learn. I know the defense isn't always this bad because I've watched the other ten games.

That's way down the list of tiebreakers, that can't possibly be the reason. Nobody else does it.

Apparently, you weren't paying attention when just a couple pages ago, someone said that it wasn't our D that was bad, it was just that Randy Moss and Wes Welker are so good. You're wrong.

I think what is being missed here is that the "positive thinkers" feel that we aren't happy with the progress our team is made. I thnk we are all ecstatic with the improvement we have made as a team.

However, us "negative types" also realize that while we have improved, we have benfitted from a cupcake schedule and some trickery to get our wins. We have a ton of holes and good teams (like the Patriots) can and have exposed us for what we are and aren't.

A backup QB just put up more yardage than for his team than a first ballot Hall of Famer (Brady) ever has. That should tell us something. Like that we aren't very good against the pass.

We are better than last year, and we are all happy about that. But we still can't win, what are essentially, must-win games, which tells me we aren't a true playoff contender.

Don't want to cut someone off entirely. Just show displeasure for a post of a supposed fan that bets against his own team. Plenty of other games to bet on but NEVER bet against your own team.

Seriously. If you think the seasons over do us a favor and dont watch anymore. Thank God the team doesnt have that attitude.

There are still five games left, and guess what? Three of them are games we SHOULD win and one other is against a team we've already beaten.

Defense couldn't stop the Pats on 3rd down sure they can do it on 2nd down but 3rd no way. Please sign a KOS that can just boom it out of the endzone. Also Ted Ginn Jr get some ****ing hands way to drop that big pass on our last meaningful possession.

The defense has not had very much talent for the last couple seasons. Even a bad defense has good games, and some good defenses have bad games, but our D has had not just had one bad game or even two or three. Four of our five losses were because of poor defensive play.

Thanks for assuming that I'm being disingenuous. Super cool.

In any case, not sure what school of coaching or analysis you come from, but in most circles, folks believe that all 16 regular season games are key. Of course, some are more "key" than others (whatever that means) but to say that Miami can't win games that are "key" means that you either have a short memory or have negative-tinted glasses.

Getting a huge road win against a divisional rival when you're 0-2 is a key win (Week 3 against the Patriots).

Beating the division leader to improve to 3-4 and give the team a shot at .500 is key (Week 8 against Buffalo)

Getting a road win against a fairly solid AFC opponent to get to .500 is key (Week 9 against the Broncos)

But hey, it's easier to just accuse me of doing intentionally dishonest things with my assertions, right?

Heck, you got Samphin to thank you!

I think the defense is somewhere around mediocre just for the record. They'll have good games and they'll have games like today. Fortunately there have been less of the latter up to this point. Who knows what we'll get the rest of the season.
