Wes was TATTOOED. I actually ended up recording the ame after that hit because I wanted to save it for posterity.

And it shouldn't have been a penalty in my view. He was playing the ball and had commited before the ball was tipped. One hell of a legal tackle.

DAMN.......that was insane. Was he out for the entire game? Shorty might be spitting up blood for awhile after that. Couldn't have happened to a better guy.

It would be if he hadn't launched himself. It wasn't helmet to helmet, From the pixels the timing was ok, but he did launch his body which is a no no.

The hit was clean...he was flagged for unsportsmanlike (hitting a defenseless receiver was the call).

The argument is whether you feel he should have pulled up, if indeed he had time to see that Palamalou tipped away the pass. Did Clark have time to pull up and avoid contact.

He clearly made a clean hit...that isnt the issue...its simply a protection call to attempt to get defenders to avoid harming defenseless receivers in the NFL's eyes.

I think it was clean all around...split decision bang-bang stuff. Welker never returned to the game - not sure if he has a mild concussion or what...but he was done following that hit.

I agree about the NFL turning wimpy.

I really didn't like the league trying to fine Tuck (I think) from the Giants for "putting his weight into the QB".. UM?!?! His job is to DRILL THE QUARTERBACK

I was sure there's a rule against launching your body? I could be wrong.

At any rate it's just one of those things that happens in football. The guy had a line and got hungry, just ended up dealing a devastating blow. We've all done that in a football game I'm sure. Hell when I was in college I was playing a flag football game. The Ref was a pledge for our our opponent (a frat). My buddy got absolutely rocked on a TD play, and I was called for a tackle for running a guy out of bounds (never touched the guy). Before we kicked off I looked at the ref and said "I'll show you a tackle" ran down the field and delivered a powerslam tackle to the returner. Honestly didn't mean to, i just meant to wrap him up and pull him to the ground, but it happened so fast and my training took over.

Not on a legal play...the commentators mentioned that combined with the Tip, was the leaving of the feet, to impart a more powerful hit on a defenseless receiver in the officials mind.

so you can leave your feet to make a legal hit and break up a pass or tackle a ball carrier, but in this context, the hit was legal, the issue for the refs and flag was unsportsmanlike conduct.

What the heck did he do to you?? Please tell me this is more than him being a RFA, having a contract offered, and him feeling from a business standpoint that the counter offer from NE was the best deal for him?

Hey, I don't AGREE with it but I often hear the announcers reference it. Especially when receivers are involved. That was one of the big debates when Boldin got rocked earlier this season. It wasn't helmet to helmet, it wasn't a timing problem, but the defender launched himself causing some debate.

I understand there need to be rules to protect players. A QB who's thrown the ball shouldn't have to worry about getting hit. A WR going up for a pass shouldn't get a dome to the face, etc.

BUT a DB should have the opportunity to separate the WR from the ball (I'm fine with this hit). A DE should be able to tackle a QB just like any other player.

So just to clarify for myself...

It is legal to launch yourself into a WR for a clean hit to separate him from the ball.

It was illegal because the ball was tipped thus making it a hit on a defenseless receiver?

What dictates a defenseless receiver btw?

I actual like Wes Welker he is a good tough footvall player. The only reason you hate him is because he went to the Patriots when he was a RFA and we did not match the deal the Patriots put up for him. If he went to Tampabay or any other team not including the Jets and the Bills you would not have cared.

Wes Welker admitted after the trade that he used to sit on the MIAMI sideline and daydream about playing for New England. I can't believe there are still people who haven't heard this.

I look at it like this....

Had Wes left for another team I would have followed him and rooted for him throughout his career.

When he went to the Patriots I couldn't root for him but was very appreciative for what he had done for us and stood up for him as a person and a player.

Once he started to dis my phins...........he was dead to me. Here I am defending the guy to people calling him a "traitor" and he's talking smack about my team, and the team who gave him a chance to succeed.

He lost a lot of class points there.

If people dont like him because he said I always wanted to be a Patriot they need to get over it. Why would he go to the Patriot team and say I wish I was still a Dolphin

Oh, I heard it, and it still doesnt warrant a response about his value as a football player, or human being.

dislike the guy I suppose, but SCUM? really, simply for that?

To each their own I suppose....I am sure I have weird opinions of folks too...just wasnt sure if the venom directed his way was beyond the common knowledge of his RFA status on comments after the fact. I simply say Big Deal!

I loved the hit. Not because it was welker but because it's what DBs are trained to do. Seek and Destroy.

There is a way to handle moving to a new team with class. A player goes to a press conference with his new team and says how thankful he is for the time he spent on his old team but he's excited his future with his new team and dedicated to helping the succeed.

There's no need to talk trash about the dolphins. The dolphins gave him a job and the chance to succeed.

Be that as it may....he collected a pay check since we signed him, and he produced and earned his pay. He didnt short change us during his tenure.

You are entitled to your opinion, I simply think your effort of focusing your HATRED could be better spent on the positives in other areas.

But I feel you...as a fan, thats what makes us Fanatics. :knucks::hi5:

Wow that was a vicious hit...Wow.

Does Welker talk a lot of trash or something because it seems like teams are just cleaning his clock with some violent intent. I get the Miami game but the Steelers doing this seems a bit weird.

I'll always respect Welker as a player and a hit like that I can't be happy about just because he talked crap about the Fins. He may be a scumbag for saying what he did but being happy over something like this hit isn't the way I would go about it. Seeing him get cut by the Pats and end up playing in the AFL would be something I would enjoy more as he could get cut by his favorite team the Pats.
