The Mor touched on this in the Prince of Persia thread. I got in a conversation the other day about how easy video games have become. While there are still hard games there's games from the original NES days that I still can't beat. Are there any that you find incredibly hard or near impossible? Here's some that I can think of. TMNT:2 (I believe it's 2). How the hell do you get past the level with the turtle van?! The Goonies: I punched a guy in the face and he won't talk to me anymore...not sure what to do. Zelda 1: I was lucky enough to find the hint in game about finding the last dungeon. MANY people don't even know it exists and still haven't beaten this game. Zelda 2: The Adventures of Link: I didn't find this particularly hard until I got to the final boss. You have to cast thunder on him before you can hit him...and WHO would have known this? Who Framed Roger Rabbit?: I looked ALL over the game for the damn phone to call Jessica Rabbit.........it wasn't until a year or two ago that I realized you had to call her IRL. Castelvania : Simon's Quest: I can't get over the cliff........ Final fantasy 1: That last dungeon is ABSOLUTELY NASTY.
Psycho Mantis in MGS1 was one that got me puzzled back in middle school. Then I learned about the controller. Final Fantasy IX's Ozma battle got me frustrated. For the life of me, I could never figure out the T-Rex in Jurassic Park Rampage. Probably a lot than I can think of right now. Good ol days.
That's TMNT 1 with the turtle van. And damned if I know Dragon Warrior. Solstice. StarTropics. Time Lord 1942 Uh. OMFG. MASTER BLASTER! That game was a biatch.
Megaman 2 is too easy for me...but it is also my all-time favorite game. Megaman 1 however...that game was/is a real SOB.
battletoads and double dragon john elway football -- you couldn't see past where your player is and the field was diagonal.
You have to kneel in front of it (maybe with something equipped) and a little cyclone will carry you over. The angry video game nerd covered it in one of his first videos.
Dark Cloud 2 has some pretty tough boss fights early in the game - having a weak character at the time did not make things any easier either.
My video game claim to fame was beating the original Double Dragon without losing a single life. I had a witness. The funny thing is it was the first time I beat the game. I had been playing it for years and never beat it. One of the tricky jumps or other challenging parts would always trip me up before I could ever get to the boss. But one day it all came together for me in a perfect storm. One of my proudest moments. Hudson's adventure Island was damn near impossible. So was Skykid. Never did beat it and it's one of my favorites. As far as recent games, Call of Duty 3 for the Xbox 360 on HARD is unbelievably hard. I would literally spend days on getting past small stretches of battles in between checkpoints. I still haven't beat it. Everytime I try to make some headway my coffee table takes some damage from my fist, controller, or anything else I can smash into it. The sad thing is, since I never finished the game I was never able to move onto Call of Duty 4 which I hear is unbelievable. I might have to ratchet it down to medium and just finish it already.
as mentioned that stupid cliff in Simon's Quest got me. Never did get past it. Ghosts and Goblins was another rediculously hard game. It literally took me over a year to get past the first level.
Equip black crystal and duck for 10 to 15 seconds beside that cliff. A tornado appears and takes you to the other side. No joke!
I beat DMC 1...I thought it wasn't that difficult...helluva game though Never beat battletoads. I don't even remember how far I got...been too long. Earthworm jim was difficult at first but when I beat it the first time, the next times were easy. Comic Zone was the biggest pain in the *** for me
Hardest game Ive ever played was Shinobi for PS2. Any of the Shinobi's were difficult, but that one, while fun, was a ***** of a game to beat. Getting to the very end of the level and falling off the wall and having to start ALL THE WAY AT THE BEGINNING was a nightmare. EDIT: The Hardest NES game EVAR was Platoon. There was actually a glitch in the programming that made it impossible to beat.
top gun for nintendo... i dominated the first level on that game for years... but could not master landing the plane, **** was impossible... and ONE time i did it and was like holy ****! but then proceeded to die right away on the second level because i was too amazed at the fact i actually landed the plane hardest... game... ever
Lol, forgot about top gun. Did you know there were 2 versions? In one version you can flip your plan all the way upside down, the other won't let you (i believe).
That reminds me. Though it wasn't technically a video game, it was a pain in the rear trying to land the F-14 on the carrier in this pilot training flight simulator they had in Norfolk for the Air Show. I mean taking off the catapult and downing 6 planes were easy next to the 3 times before I was on the money to try to land the dang thing. I don't think they get more than 2 times in the real thing.
The passing was really hard in that game as well. Having to hold down the button for how long you want to throw the ball. Still all you had to do was run the reverse. The guy always had double the speed of anyone else.
final fantasy 1, startropics, battletoads were all rediculous. always struggled with Jaws bc you had to do the whole game like 6 times before you 'won'. Dragon warrior Faxanadu Marble Madness (the last level) the later megamen (5 and 6..)
This game used to be pretty hard as hell. I can beat it quite easily now, but when I was a kid it gave me nightmares. Especially considering if you lose all your lives anywhere from Act 6 on to the Demon you have to start 6 all over. It took me quite a long time to figure out how to beat Jaquio.
Yes but that can be said for any game especially all the old scripted ones with static AI. I agree MTP is easy now, but I'm still looking for the perfect run--now that is still hard. I don't think anyone has ever done it, at least not without hacks
Mike Tyson's punchout , I never could get to the second round with that gap toothed meanie. Posted via Mobile Device
I'm glad to see the one Ninja Gaiden mention in this thread involves the old NES game, rather than the modern incarnation. Good man, n9necount. Others worth mentioning: Dragon Quest VII Xenosaga Episode I (unless you used the battle trainer on the Woglinde, in which case you could cheese your way through the game) Breath of Fire V
Those were all great too. NES games were the best. Those were the days you actually got your money's worth for a game. I only play Sports titles on New Gen systems now, all the others are too easy to beat
What's so hard about this game? Every guy has their trick. If you know it you win. Yes, even Tyson. BTW, I love this game! Double Edit: I'm late. Breath of fire was hard. I forget which number but it was for PS1. Star Ocean: The Second Story. - I was on level ridiculous (goes way past 100) and it was still hard. I quit playing it after a while.
