i remember the yard sale where i tried to sell my pogs. it went from like 5 for a dime, to 5 for a penny, to just free. such worthless pieces of cardboard. i just remembered i had a plastic john deere tractor that i would ride around my neighborhood too. i used to follow my bro and his friends around who were on bikes... took me a little longer but i got there in time to annoy them
Star Wars and GI Joe. But my favorite toys were accurate toy soldiers. (painted with actual uniforms) I actually owned an entire Spetsnaz Company (elite Soviet troops) complete with a Hind Helicopter and I used to pin them against my Army Ranger and Green Beret sets. I had no idea that they were very valuable. But they went to a good cause..I donated them a few years ago to charity.
no way dude.. we had "interactive" toys, we had bows and arrows, slingshots, and bb guns. Hell, I got a belt fed A-4 30 cal for Christmas one time.. full sized.. I "was" the machine gun nest when we gathered for Combat. I had ALL the Man from Uncle guns.. Illia was the MAN. We had blowguns too, Chris got an azz whippin from his Dad after he shot his brother in the leg. I got shot right between the eyes with a Daisy bb gun, I'd still be wounded from Dads azzwhippin if he'd of found out. He never got the striaght scoop on the speargun wound I took either. We had the sharp, spark spittin' ray guns, metal toys that would cut you to the bone.. always carried a pocket knife, first my cubscout, then my boyscout, then an Old Timer. We weren't kick the can and chase the hoop primative, we had the dangerous sharp lead painted stuff... and guns. In the cerebral side I had several chemistry sets, two microscopes, a telescope, and a good personal library. You younger fella's will never understand the joy of owning a transistor radio in the early sixtys.. NEVER before had anyone been able to carry a small personal radio with them.. I was born into the end of the age of tubes, I was around for the first applications of transistors for the general public. I was a kid, I knew nothing else, but I remember the old folks.. kinna like me now, but even older, in absolute awe of the new "portability" of music. I even had a turntable that would run on batteries fer crap sake.. I wore OUT Mechanical World and Uncle Jack doing chemistry experiments. Things were way different, I would not have been caught dead handling a doll called gee eye Joe. All my buddies little brothers did, but not me, or us. Action figure pfffft, it's a doll. We had toy soldiers that made the coolest sound when they dripped from fire. Lots of plastic encased ants on that sidewalk. They feared the magnifying glass too. Different.
Although I can say the samething on all of that (except for Gameboy as I'd switch that for the Original Nintendo and change Bionic 6 with Star Wars figures), I have to go with G1 Optimus Prime as my favorite toy:
You learn something new on thephins.com every day. I bet none of you could have predicted that the Bow and Arrow was already invented by the time CNC was a kid.
being a popular author such as yourself, I'm sure the immense amount of women you get now surely makes up for any childhood xmas trauma.
I was about 10 when the Star Wars trilogy was out so I had pretty much every single action figure and spaceship. I wish somebody would've smacked me at 12 when I gave it all away to a friends little brother 'cause I thought I was too old to have it. That stuff is worth so much $ now. Other than that, Lincoln Logs, Air Hockey, and Atari 2600 to name a few more favorites.
That's why people are becoming sissies - if you don't have toys that you have to survive through childhood you don't grow up as tough
Any of you blokes ever have that electric vibrating metal NFL football field where all the players would hook arms and dance in circles. It took for bloomin' ever to set all the players back up in formation not to mention play a game.
Yeah, I actually had one where the QB was bigger and had a spring loaded arm...so he could "Pass". Which means, I really had an expensive POS that didnt work any better than any of the other lesser ones that were sold A really cool football game that I did have was a Mattel game that had little plastic "Records" and a record player. Each Record had an offensive play on the front, and 5 or 6 defensive plays on the back. Whoever was on Offense would choose a play or "Record" and put it in the player, the defensive player would then spin it until his play on the back was on top and then push it in. Depending on what each picked, different things would happen. It came with a field that you would track field position first downs and score with. Looking back, by far one of the better games I ever had.
My favorite was my electric train, daisy BB gun, spud gun, lincoln logs, archery set and board games.
LEGOS! I had tons of legos as kid, best toy ever! Also had the usual stuff like Ninja Turtles, some GI Joes, Xmen etc.
Micro Machines, GI Joes, Starting Lineup sports figurines, Matchbox cars, jets and airplanes, Nintendo, He-Man and Scooby Doo
