I have word from someone within the industry, who lives in Canada, that Warner Brothers is promoting that Heath Ledger be nominated in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role catagory, and that Christian Bale will be promoted for the Best Actor in a Featured Role catagory. They (supposedly) feel he has a better chance of winning in that catagory. By the way, Variety also reported that TDK is at $996 million, just short of the magic billion mark only surpassed by 3 other films (Titanic is the most at $ 1.6 billion). Its still bringing in around $ 500,000 a week and will also be re-released in late January to coincide with the Oscar build-up
I remember one of the reviews I read for TDK said that they should just rename the Oscar "the Ledger" and give the Ledger to Robert Downey Jr. for Iron Man and make everyone happy. And based of Ledger's Joker I'd have to agree. He should be a lock for whatever category he is nominated for.
I cant see them putting him in supporting actor category just so he can win. He should be in the category because that's what he was, no? I hope he wins though. Looking forward to buying the movie tomorrow
His screen time, and the centralness of his character to the story told in TDK I thought should garner consideration for the top spot, but I guess not.
I have not seen TDK yet I bought it today and will watch it tonight. Ive only seen Heath Ledger in one movie some crappy flick about being a knight that had rock music in it. At first I thought all the hype in the media about his acting in this movie was over done because of his death. But with even you guys on this board talking so much about him I look forward to watching it.
Baxter, I recommend 3 Ledger flicks that will show you his (now missed) talent : Monsters Ball, Brokeback Mountain, and then The Dark Knight. Watch those three and you will be a fan of his for life. (others honorable mention : The Four Feathers, Candy and his 1st film 10 Things I Hate About You) The film in question is by the way called, A Knights Tale (a chick flick actually)
Thats correct sir. Just finished the movie 5 mins ago. All I can say is wow. I like this one much more than Batman Begins. Ledger was incredible as the Joker. All the buzz was correct it was amazing. Im going to watch some of the special features then turn it on again.
On my 2nd viewing now my friend. Might even stay up and watch it a 3rd time. Only movie I ever did that with was Superbad my favorite movie ever, Ive seen it well over 70 times.
Trust me on this, if you see Brokeback and The Dark Knight back to back, you will not think its the same actor......the parts are so completely different. I also can recommend The Brothers Grimm.....he was great in that, but the movie was completely ruined by Matt Damon using a fake English accent.....ruins the film for me.
I like actors that can play a wide range of characters rather than an actor who pretty much is the same guy in every movie. hmm sad about Damon ruining Brothers Grimm I usually dont mind him, hate Ben Affleck (sp)? though he ruins every movie hes in.
Superbad is a great movie. I actually popped that in the other night and watched about the first 30 minutes while I fell asleep. I've seen TDK 6 times and it doesn't get old. Brokeback Mountain was good. It starts off kind of slow. I can see how people wouldn't like it because of that. But I stuck with it and it paid off in the end. PMZQ is right about Ledger. He is a really good actor.
Its unfortunate that many won't ever see Heath's incredible performance in Brokeback, because they just can't get over the controversial material. unfortunately we have to use the word "was" not "is" when talking about Heath
