    That's friggin awesome.
    This should be instituted everywhere.

It's clear some of these people do this on purpose just to stir up trouble and to be beligerent while the other ones that decide to sit in the left lane driving like their car only has 2 gears are just clueless. These people are the biggest problems on the road along with the damn Rubberneckers. Those idiots should be next. You slow down to 30 MPH on the highway to stare at someone changing a tire you should get your arse pulled over.

I can't wait until every state starts banning people from talking on their cell phone or blue tooth or any other device and makes a hefty fine to go along with it.

I can't agree with that one.

While some people can't walk and chew gum at the same time that dosen't mean I should get ticketed for being able to.

I do agree that IF you are on the phone in the car you should be on a hands free device though. Talking on your phone is really not that different then talking to someone sitting beside you in the car. Texting is an absolute no,no IMO. As for the cops pulling people over for being in the "hammer" lane, its actually sad it came to this. It should be common knowledge and just plain considerate of people to be in the right lane if your traveling slower.

I agree with anlgp on this one using a cell phone in a car if its not hands-free but if its bluetooth that's fine with me as they can still focus on the road and have both hands on the steering wheel. Texting while driving though is the stupidest thing a person can do.

Also as for the left lane story that is welcome news.

I understand you were speaking about metaphorically chewing gum and walking at the same time and it being analogous to driving and being on the phone at the same time the two aren't even comparable.

Crash and kill someone from walking and chewing gum at the same time and then get back to me.

I think we have a similar law in California - I know they will tag you for going to slow as quick as going too fast because it creates a traffic hazard.

I agree with talking on a physical cell phone but that's going too far to include blue tooth communications as people like me rely on it to do their job. If I had to pull over every time I had a phone call I would never get anything accomplished.

I feel I am an exceptional driver in any case my blue tooth supports voice activated dialing so I never have to touch my actual phone during any part of the initiation of conclusion of a phone call.

The devices aren't the problem - it's the people that can't use them properly.

If we really want to toss it out there - guys with booming stereo's that can't hear an ambulance or firetruck coming up beside them those guys that sit so low in the car that you can barely see the tops of their heads or those schmucks that are thumbing through an ipod, magazine, map, makeup or hell eating a sandwich while driving with their knees all pose a larger risk than a safe driver using a blue tooth device.

first of all, i'd like to see someone Dong their makeup  (i'm just immature so thats funny to me)

anyway, we've had a rule like this in PA for a while now. If you're in the left hand lane you have 1 mile (i think) to pass someone in the right lane, or you can get pulled over. and they actually do pull you over, there was a guy riding in my blind spot one day for a while in the left lane and theere was a cruiser behind us. after ~1 mile the lights went on and the guy got his ticket. (he was from jersey too.. figures.)

Come North and travel around the Greater Vancouver area for a day or two. Our drivers will make you miss home.

Driving below the speed limit in the left lane here is the norm and NO ONE moves over if you are approaching. If you give them a quick high beam flash they either give you the finger or do nothing. The best one is when you finally get fed up with waiting for them to move over you go to pass in the right lane and as you do they either signal and start to go right OR speed up OR after you have passed on the right you look in your mirror and see them moving to the right lane.

I could go on and on about the Vancouver driver but this thread would get out of control....LOL!

You should all come on down to Tucson and try dealing with:

A: Many many people from across the border whom (Not a discredit to them but more the Country) have had much less experience driving on Highways.
B: By far one of the largest collection of Blue-Hairs anywhere.

It is absolute INSANITY trying to get anywhere sometimes.:pity:

try getting in front of a left lane abuser then slow down to 10 mph slower than they are going. let them know how it feels to have someone as inconsiderate as them on the road in their way.

EDIT: make sure its not a nun or a family with babies though. they get a free pass.

    Two things to say.

If the speed limit, note the word LIMIT, is 60 and I'm going 59 while you're trying to go 80, I don't feel bad for slowing you down and I try not to get angry with other drivers when they do it to me.

AS for cell phones and driving...hands-free is the only way. You can't have a cell phone in your hand and maintain positive control of a vehicle. Accidents happen in a split second. You won't have time to put down your cell to grab the wheel.

I see what your saying but, if by being on the left side, speed limit or not, you are messing with the flow of traffic you end up causing congestion, and leave the potential for road rage by people who are traveling faster than you. It's not our jobs to be the road police. If someone is going way too fast the best thing to do is to get out of there way.

I know what you're saying as I've been on the no speed limit autobahn in Germany. If you're in the fast lane and see some headlights flash way back in the mirror, you've got about 2 seconds to move over before the guy blows right through you and you have a classic 20-car European pile-up.

My point is that if I'm going 59 trying to get around the even slower guys going 45, cut me some slack and give me some time to get around them before you go all guns blazin' on me.

And when it's raining, remember that not everyone happens to know the roads. I was in the DC area after a 14-hour trip by plane, trying to navigate in the blinding rain in the middle lane and people were still flying by me.

Why wasn't I in the slowest lane--easy--too much merging traffic in and out for someone trying to find out where the hell they're going and because there was another fast lane.

Offensive driving will get you or someone else killed eventually.

I too, rely on my hands free device while driving to various accounts for work. If they took that away from me, my productivity level wouldgo way down.

Also, I travel to Washington on business. No way are their driver's worse than the Bay Area's or L.A.'s. Washington IS pretty bad though, I would certainly put them in the top 10 nationwide.

Oh no point of clarification the overall worst drivers stay right here in California exactly where you mentioned - just the worst people at merging onto the freeway going 45 mph are in Maryland.

Its not unless you are intentionally trying to get the person in front of you to hit you. Then you are being just as reckless as the guy on your bumper.

If you pass a car, then cut in front of it and slow down - it's vehicular assault.

If you were to cause an accident as a result, and it could be proven in court that you caused it, (witnesses, traffic cams, etc.) you could be convicted of vehicular manslaughter.

I used to do that **** when I was a young hothead.

As an old hothead, not so much.

Ever been in a traffic jam in Tokyo during Golden week? You're lucky if you move 3 MPH. It's hard to go any slower. LOL

Now South Korea is a place I won't drive in. Just riding with friends and in taxis in enough to scare the bejebus out of anyone. Take two lanes and turn it into 4 anywhere you please! AHHH!!!

I actually thought driving inGermany was the most "controlled."

okay so i know its not the perfect thread for a driving rant, but its late, i'm bitter because i have to be up for work in about 5 hours, and i want to rant about drivers. so here goes:

of philadelphia area, boston area, and LA area drivers, i would say i have found the boston drivers to be the worst in general, though they all have their perks:

philly drivers, while *******s, have an amazing amount of control over their vehicles. yet, you still see people driving on shoulders a lot. only place to this day i have ever seen someone that got pulled over in 4 lane gridlock: for speeding somehow.

boston drivers, well, they are just dumb. maybe its that people don't understand rotaries/turnabouts/circles/whatever you want to call them, maybe its because everyone is just in a rush, i don't know. driving in general in boston is just frustrating though.
a lot of this though is actually pedestrians though. apparently, pedestrians in boston seem to think they have the right of way, regardless of anything happening on the road. so even though you're sitting there in a car with a green arrow, they'll walk right in front of you. or they'll jump out in the middle of the street to cross in the middle of traffic assuming everyone will stop. so frustrating. we had some poor girl at my school get killed for walking out in the middle of the street (no crosswalk) and getting plowed by some guy who didn't see it coming.

people in philly and LA know not to walk into the middle of the street because you know you can't safely bank on everyone in the street stopping for you out of the kindness of their hearts

speaking of LA, where i am now: i don't have much driving experience here yet, but from what i can tell, while everyone is a frustrated driver because the traffic is oh so nice, everyone seems to accept that no matter how much of an arsehole you drive you still aren't getting anywhere in a short amount of time. try as you may you're gonna be stuck in traffic, so you might as well just stay in your lane and deal with it. this results in fewer close calls.

Yeah, thanks Higgi. I actually dont have to travel through the "War Zone" very often..thankfully.

I-10 (The only real thoroughfair through Tucson) has been under MAJOR surgery for almost 3 years. It is 1 lane each way with lots of Orange Barrels and temparary Concrete bunkers lining the way.
I believe they are only about 1/2 done....
