Does anyone here think that the wildcat is officially no longer a part of our offense? I'm hoping that we've got a mother-of-all-wildcats package stored on the back burner. The Jets are a 3-4 defense, and did not get to see the wildcat the first time we played them. Anyone else think we got another asswhooping left in the wildcat tank?
I for one think we are saving the best for last. I think the coaching staff believed we could win this game without using alot of wildcat schemes and will incorporate more into the last two games.
It will be revived with Satele at LG and Johnson at C, i believe. Players (on offense and defense) and coaches keep saying that they have only shown a very small part of what they have in the play book and what they have shown in practise. There is much more left to run during games. I don't see any reason to show any of it until the Jets game.
My guess is that it's being retooled with the new personnel at the center of the line so they can throw some fresh wrinkles into it during the Jets game.
yea, I think we got something special in store with the wildcat. We're just waiting for the perfect opportunity to bust it out.
Bro I think it is just taking a little snooze. Tony and staff are working on the OLine, and they are probably adding more wrinkles to it behind the scenes for the Jets game.
[Samuel Jackson] Yes I'm glad it's dead and I hope it burns in hell! [/Samuel Jackson] Seriously, I hope they don't bring it back unless they intend to use it to its full potential instead of just using it to run Ronnie between the tackles or Ricky/Cobbs on an end-around.
All valid points with the O line and such, but keep in mind we were going against one of the best LB corps all year with Willis, Spikes, and Lawson. That is probably why we didn't run much to begin with, especially considering Sparano acknowledges that we have a problem run blocking on the interior of the line.
I agree FFIC. This was my thought exactly. We didn't really have the ball enough to run it yesterday and we moved the ball so effectively by throwing the ball in 1st half it didn't matter. I think you'll see us do a lot out of in in NY. However, I think a lot of it depends on the weather. If it's snowing, I don't think you'll see the wrinkles we're both hoping to see.
The WC is no different than the Shotgun, Goal Line formation, 2 TE sets, Trips, or 4WR sets..its simply another formation based on what we think will work vs what scheme. It will be part of us during the next two games, same as it has been a part of every game in different amounts since week 3.
I think there will be probably 3-5 plays ran out of it against KC and then maybe a bit more against the jets.
It's fairly useful when you're going nowhere. Expect maybe 3-4 plays against both the Chiefs and Jets to try to gain five yards if we're getting nothing in the standard ground game. I hardly expect Satele to be at LG, I expect him at RG. Alleman is gaining experience at LG, I'd say keep him there. Satele also should pull towards the left with Jake Long there more so than the right. The Jets weaker side on defense is their right side, our offense's left. Practice runs to the outside and we can beat the Jets.
It would be fun to see us just playing possum with it. Afterall, we haven't used it much in the last 3 -4 weeks. Just once against SF, if we don't use it alot against KC, there might be something to this... Maybe we've shelved it for a while against these "weaker" opponents to make the jets think we're done with it so they dont prepare as much for it, then maybe we'll go up there and just unload it on them, with all these different variations of it we keep hearing about... Not a bad idea. I'd love to see us get to week 17, in new york, playing for the division against them, and just unload on them like we did NE the first time around.. oh how sweet it would be.
exactly, its a simple formation executed by a supremely talented football player. It behooves us to put the formation into every game just for the element of suprise and misdirection, for gameday and for future gamedays... The wildcat i believe is something like 80 plays with a 6 yard average, people calling for its head is numbing to me from a football strategic perspective. We never should wanna take the ball out of the hands of one of the most multidimensional players in the NFL, ronnie getting the ball with that kinda depth is something that must continue and evolve, i just wish everyone would get off the wildcats back, just because it may go for no gain a few times a game does'nt mean its not doing its job in terms of setting up the opponent during the game and setting up future opponents.
your post explains why the wildcat is important for this particular offense. Diversity, unpredictability, angles, misdirection, play action, all characteristics of the wildcat and our offense as a whole.
The weakening of the interior of the OL is also a big reason why the Wildcat hasn't been as effective lately and probably one of the reasons why they have not used it much recently. Not being able to run up the middle takes away one of its options and defeats its purpose.
It will be very interesting to see if this comes into play this weekend with more new wrinkles and passing to boot just for this game in mind.
That's the key difference in my mind between week 1 Jerks -vs- Phins and week 17. The Miami offense had not fully developed yet.
I've been saying for the weeks the wildcat has stopped working because it's become vanilla, easily predictable. We throw in a new wrinkle and score, and it opens up the regular runs again. We need to be creative with it if we expect it to work against the Jets.
no disrespect to anyone but some of you all just dont get the wildcat and all of what it does for us as an offense imo. Let me put it this way...even when it does'nt work, it still works...
I think the wildcat will be i full effect Sunday if we find we can't get the running game going. If we get the running game working, I don't think we let any wrinkles out of the bag. Those will be saved for playoff games.
It helps just with the possibility of us running it because other teams have to spend some of their time in practice preparing for it and coming with a way to stop it, which takes time away from them practicing their normal schemes and takes time away from them preparing for our normal game plan. So like djphinfan said; "even when it doesn't work, it works". With that said, When we keep running the same couple of plays from it without using those plays to set up a pass or something different from it, it's not nearly as effective IMO. Whenever we've tried a pass from it, we've had success. I think this game would be a good time to bring some of those plays out again.
almost got what iam talking about brother, heres another example...when a team throws the ball deep in the begginning of the game, its not only to try to get a big chuck of yardage in one play, the long bomb will create residual effects during the game for other plays to be sucessful. Lets think about this, if your a defense and your looking at ronnie and ricky in the backfield and you dont know if there gonna go left or right or strait down the middle, or pass out of it, or take the qb off the field or run a reverse out of it, or ronnie throwing it, him faking the throw.... see what iam doing here is making you think before the snap way too much to play at your high speed...now when it does'nt work, its because the defense guessed right on that play...guess being the key word. The wildcat is why our offense is so dynamic, #1 its put to use the skills of our best players, #2 It f@@s with the head of the defensive players so that they are automatically on their heels and reacting, advantage us. Now if you say a defense should just attack attack, and thats what will stop the wildcat, i will say this... you may guess right sometimes, guess being the key word, but the formation will eventually make you look silly. The wildcat will take that loss because whether they know it or not, that loss just set them up for another wrinkle. It can beat you when your on your heels and it can also beat you if you become to aggressive. lastly i'd like to say that the wildcat is not a gimmick or is it trickery in any way, it is a pure power running formation, that we have morphed into a trapping sweeping misdirection mind fuc#. If i hear one more person say OHHHHH, ronnie got stuffed on that wildcat play, ' i hate the wildcat.....iam gonna go freakin crazy....its an automatic inditement on your knowledge of the game and your lack of forsythe. I'am sorry its just how i feel, and if you wanna debate it...bring it..
that was going to be my point exactly. That was a HUGE play in the game. Just because we don't run it 15 times a game, doesn't make it dead. There are less plays that will work from it as teams adjust, but there are so many variations that we should continue to run it. Even if Ricky just gets 5 yards around the end, it is still worth it.
Kinda nice considering we did'nt use the Wildcat against the Jet's the first time we played them. They WILL have to practice defending it this week. With the way the Jets are playing against the run the last few weeks, using the Wildcat would be worth a try early on in the game.Just to see how well they do against it.
Passing from the 'Wildcat" we are 2 for 2 with 2 TDs. I would love to see some more of that, but it's what the D gives you.
How about that wildcat making a come back? It got the Jets running around with their heads off today. Ronnnie and Ricky making big runs off it today. As expected Sparano also brought out the big play guns during the final game just to surprise them. Those 2 throwing plays could have been a thing of magic. When Pennington recieved the toss and then threw it to ricky, only for him to drop it, i''m sure we all saw a touchdown coming. Then the throw from Ronnie to Haynos. Only if Ronnie didn't have a noodle arm, that was going to be a touchdown too.
Lots of great wrinkles were un-veiled. Both of those passes should have been completed but regardless, its shows teams that that to try to out-think the options we create out of the set. Heck, thats the case for all other so-called "traditional" sets as well. Dan Henning and co. get lots of credit for creating so many multiple plays out of the same look. The D really can get confused. I think the objective of the WildCat is one thing...get the best most dynamic players on the field at the same time. Bar, none, the Miami Dolphins offense have the most dynamic players that fit this offense perfectly unlike any other NFL team trying to run it. No doubt about that. Every sportscaster says the same thing....the Miami Dolphins do more and can do more out of that set than any other franchise.
Definitely opened up alot yesterday. I can't believe that Ricky dropped that pass. That would have been big for our team and he is usually a very reliable receiver. Now, the Ravens will have to go back to preparing for offensive plays that may never even materialize. Just like we are kept guessing, the other teams are in the same boat.
