I know he has been shooting lame ducks out of his arm the past month but is anyone scared that this Sunday is going to be the "second coming" of Farve and he goes crazy for 400 yards? I am not going to lie the potential for this man to go crazy on us with something to prove scares the living crap out of me. Homerism aside who agrees with me? And what can we fundamentally do to prevent this?

Favre has a knack for showing up for big games so I am always fearful, but I really feel like he's really losing it. Watching him in the later part of the season he has done nothing but remind me of Marino's last season. The passes were lagging and off target and the gimmie throws for all those years were not there anymore like the touch was gone. I really think he should have stayed retired, but thank God he didn't because we wouldn't have picked up Penny. Anyways, yes he could step up, but he even had that quiver in his voice during the post game interview like he sees it in the mirror too, I think the ride is over. JMO.

anybody else think that the league moved the baltimore game to 4:15 to help the pats? if they played at 1 and the ravens won, the jets would have nothing to play for. sounds funny

I respect Favre and his abilities. He knows this is a huge game and it could be his last shot at the playoffs. He knows how to win and he knows how to best use the weapons he has available. He's not what he was in his prime but he's still dangerous.
I don't think Sparano will underestimate the Jets or Favre. I bet Pennington has plenty of motivation to win and the Jets better not underestimate what Pennington can do to his old team that cast him off.

Favre may not be the every week threat he was in his prime, but the man can still pull freakishly good games out of a hat.

I look at it like this. The Miami Dolphins belong in this game and they can win this game. They have a better record, they played the Jetsons very close, and could have easily beaten them in week one.

Can Favray have a field day? Sure he can but Pennington can have one as well.

I'm not scared. I'm looking forward to it and may the best team on Sunday be the Miami Dolphins.

I'm more worried than afraid. More worried about how Miami plays in this game than anything. We all know Favray can put up big numbers, but the big question is can Chad, and our Dolphins keep up and be just that much better.

Favre has been less than spectacular in big games since 1997. I'm not worried. Their real "big game" was last week in Seattle, and he was horrible.

It depends on how our DBs play .They have to make interceptions or breakups of those off the mark throws .

If we let the Jet receivers play jump ball with our defenders it could be a long day.

Somehow my reply to this post disapeared.

Favray has needed to turn it up for the last month and has failed miserably.

I think the right way to phrase it would be, does he have one more big game in him?

This game will mean a lot towards his overall legacy. Will he be the killer of the Jets dream season or will he be the savior that backs them into the playoffs?

personally I hope we send a blitzer straight into his face every play and even if we can't get the sack knock his dick in the dirt over and over again and force him to make the quick throws into coverage we have a chance to make plays.

I have no doubt that a few of his passes will hit our DB's in the hands (hell I saw him hit three seahawks in the back) if they can catch a couple of them we'll walk out of NY with the division.

You can't give Farve too many chances to cut your nuts off because all he needs is one hail mary pass to beat you. (or two in week 1).

No I'm not afraid of Favre he hasn't come up big in important games the past decade. The media brainwashes most to think he is this great quarterback who comes to play in the big games and makes the big play to win the game when that is not the case and hasn't been in a decade. Add that he has been throwing ducks the past 4 games and no he doesn't scare me.

The two average receivers they have also don't concern me. Dustin Kellar and Thomas Jones will be the real threats Sunday.

Here's Penny vs. Favre the last 4 games.

    Pennington: (W-L) 4-0, (Comp %) 71%, (Yds) 738, (YPA) 7.0, (TDs-INTs) 6-1, (QB Rat) 105.2

    Favre: (W-L) 1-3, (Comp %) 58%, (Yds) 778, (YPA) 5.8, (TDs-INTs) 1-6, (QB Rat) 58.2

It really looks like Favre is getting tired...

Teams have been putting some pretty decent pressure on him too. You do that, and knock him on his butt (hard) and he tends to make that off balance throw more often than not.

Let him sit in the pocket and he'll pick a team apart though.

I am not afraid of him but I definitely respect what he brought to the table in the past. I think he was wrong to come back this season and he probably knows it now. The bad thing is that he may be able to pull a rabbit out of his hat and have a good day. I want to see him on his back constantly. Being harassed by our defense and sacked alot.

Favre is still capable of pulling out a big game imo, but hes certainly not the same QB he was.

It will be up to our defense to force out the latter QB than the former. Apply some pressure to force him to put up those ducks, get him out of his comfort zone, make him "improvise" and try to make plays. Thats when hes at his worst as you saw in seattle. Throwing wounded ducks across the length of the field as defenders chase him around.

If we let him sit in the pocket he can very well pick us apart and put up huge numbers.

When was the last time Brett Favre had a big game in an important game?

It's pretty simple: Pressure Favre, we win. Give Favre all day to throw, we lose. It all comes down to that. Favre may be losing it, but he is still very capable of beating us (or even embarrassing us) if he is allowed to stand in the pocket all day.

You all have to remember that he doesn't necessarily need a big game for the Jets to win he needs a smart game. If we allow him to throw for 180-225 with a TD and no turnovers that is the same formula that Pennington uses to win for us.
They have enough of a running game that if we can't put it on ice early and force Favre into a game of desperation throws we are in trouble.

a hat? more like his ***.

I dont think Favre has anything left. It's nice to think that the Dolphins are the center of the universe, and that the Jets will stop playing so apathetically now that we're coming to town. But seriously, the Jets have been horrible for a month now. They just played one of the worst defenses in the NFL and scored 3 points. 3!

I think I know why Favre is falling so quickly. The fans. He's not used to having the fans turn on him after a bad game or two. He didnt give these fans a nice shiny trophy, so they're not cutting him any slack. Favre got away with ALOT in Green Bay, coasting off of one ring. He's under a lot of pressure right now, and has already been talking about retirement for 2 weeks. That means he is starting to feel the way he did at the end of last season. The aches and pains have got to be insane for him to bear. Weekly recovery probably took until Tuesday before. Now he may still be feeling the pains of the previous game through the entire week.

If we're talking about who wants it more, I say thats Chad Pennington. There is no way that Favre can be as motivated as Chad with all the pressure and attention on his bad play. Favre probably just wants to get this game over with. Being the selfish bastard that he is, I would put it past him to lose on purpose just to avoid playing another cold playoff game. Maybe he'll lie down for Joey and let him get the 5 sacks he needs to tie the record.

I'm not afraid of Favre. Matt Cassel scares me 20 times more than Favre.

But yeah seems most of are in agreement about how to handle Favre, hopefully the defense can go out and get it done. I actually think cold and bad conditions will work more to our advantage than theirs, though if they commit to Jones early and have some success we might have some trouble.

The NFL is going to have two teams cursed by the Madden cover this year....the Green Bay Packers and the NY Jets. Remember the Favre cover befor the start of the season with Favre on Madden where he is wearing a Packer's jersey.....the Packers had a lousy year, and now the Jets are going to be cursed in the worst way.

...I have no problem with Brett playing a great game and beating us,which he is still capable of doing, but what I don't want to see is some lucky "school yard" play burn us for the game winning score....like he did in our first match up... where he "chucked" that floater down field to help beat us...

...my advice to Tony......blitz...blitz...blitz....if presured...he'll make bad throws...

I wanted to break my tv set on that floater that Favre threw...this is the exact same crap that Stabler did on the Sea of Hands pass that beat us in the 1974 AFC playoffs. Maybe Sunday are d-backs will be more focused and also catch any INT's that come their way.

Exactly, we don't know which Favrah is going to show up, the guy who has 25 come from behind victories, or the one who we saw walking off the field in Lambeau last season after throwing the game losing interception.

Chad looked nervous in that first game, I'm actually worried that he will try to do too much rather then Favrah going wild on Sunday...

Favre is a legend and deserves a certain level of respect for his contributions to the game of football.

That said, his behavior this offseason, and his consequent tantrum to get out of Green Bay, came off as sour grapes, and for all intents and purposes the emotions of a man 30 years his younger. I lost a lot of respect for Favre in the offseason, and in how he tried to bully the Packers into what he wanted.

I guess it's for those reasons, that to me it was predestined for Favre to become a Jet, one of our division rivals and a team that I've never been able to stomach. The Jets have proven to be a selfish, soulless organization, casting aside one of their most loyal players in Chad Pennington for a chance to pick up a future, albeit aging, Hall of Famer. Like the Jets, I now believe Favre to be a selfish, soulless player, a guy who has only been in it for himself, not just this year, but probably for the last several. It's no coincidence then, as Favre's desperation for individual glory has peaked, that his teams have slipped, and that he himself has failed to elevate them to anything above the middle of the pack. Ironically, the man that Favre replaced, Pennington, has taken a rag tag, but hungry, bunch of players and has them playing like their hair is on fire.

As much as I dislike Favre the person, I can't help but respect Favre the player. The man has proven over the course of his career that he is capable of big games when you least expect it - the MNF football after his father passed away the day before immediately comes to mind. Favre is a competitor, and as soon as you count him out, he produces another gem in a HOF career. No, me, I'll fear Favre, as the man plays with a reckless school yard abandon. Sure, it causes mistakes, but at the same time it produces results.

I can't help but wish the circumstances of this game weren't a little bit different for Pennington and Miami. I was hoping to see us take on Favre at the top of his game, but he (and the team) is slumping these past few weeks, and it appears that old Father Time may finally be having an effect on the boy from Mississippi. Still, the man has never failed to answer the bell when the lights are brightest, and I see no reason for that to change now. If Favre is truly done - a bold statement - then let us crush him and the Jets, burying them under a fierce pass rush led by Joey Porter. If Favre is not done - a possibility - then let our defenders play lights out, and not allow any more miracles.

I am so pumped for this game. We get a chance to destroy the Jets, and take down a HOF QB, in the same game. What's not to love?

EDIT: And to answer the OP, if it wasn't clear. I absolutely fear Brett Favre the player and what is capable of on the gridiron. I don't respect Brett the person at all, as he's become more selfish with age.

Playing smart ball control football has never been Favrays game. He lives and dies by his sword and always takes chances. Playing good sound defense can beat him, and especially with some pressure. I think you said the key word though. If Miami can contain their Rb's somewhat they can make him take a chance or three.

I'm more worried about their ST's than anything for this game....
