funny.. all the talking heads were saying that the Big 10 is the weakest of all the BCS confrences, that they are artificially propped up at the begining of every season.. I was kinna shocked, but see their point. Not being a college football expert, I don't know what to think.. other than I don't like UM and OSU.

here's my opinion on most Big 10 teams and why they struggle.

OSU always brings in top recruits but most of them are linemen, and a lot of their 5 star recruits never really pan out (they traditionally have more success with smaller prospects)

Michigan can recruit with the best in the country, but have a horrible S&C program which really hurts them

    PSU only recruits certain players

Wisconsin owns their state, but the HS talent is not always top notch.

Illinois is getting better recruiting, but are just still young

Iowa,Indiana,Purdue,Northwestern, and Minnesota are only good when they have a lot of RS guys on their team and catch the Big 2 in a down year.

We can't defend the spread its as simple as that.

Speed isnt the issue the issue is the different looks Florida and LSU gave.

I thought we couldn't either, just turns out we can't defend actual speed QBs. I think OSU could easily defend the spread as well, it's not as much speed as it is containment on a running QB (easier said than done), but if it's a QB like Flynn, get pressure

Well the looks LSU gave Ohio st looked puzzled. When the defense is spread out like they are there are bound to be gaps.

Ohio St just got out coached again.

Congrats to Michigan though. I was happy that day.

I was shocked, and kind of pissed. Where was that offense (or that agressive defense) all year?

I know really. They looked totally different.

08 will be a better year for the Big Ten.

Hopefully we land a BCS bid.

should be a better year. I think most Big 10 fans would agree that the Illini were not ready for the Rose Bowl; especially against that USC team. They were just way too young and did not have big game experience. Had Illinois gone to a smaller bowl I believe they would've won.

Even so even hardcore Big 10 fans have to agree with this.

Ohio State recruits Ohio kids (with the occasional big time out of state player)

Michigan normally gets the top players in Michigan as well as top players across the country (Cali,Texas,Iowa,Florida,Ohio,PA)

Penn State can get whoever they want, but they only go after guys that fit JoePa's scheme instead of the est players.

Illinois should probably be investigated by the NCAA (this is partially a joke, but seriously you ever been to Champaign?!?)

Wisconsin gets everybody that's a top player from in state with occasional steals from neighboring states

Michigan State,Northwestern,Indiana,Purdue,Iowa, and Minnesota feed off of the guys Michigan and Ohio State don't watch (look at how many guys go to schools that are part of Michigan or OSU's pipelines)

Actually Ohio St has been recruiting heavy in PA and Florida. But Id say 70% of the class is made up of Ohio kids.

    NC Mountains
Hayden Frye used to have a Texas pipeline and got his share of kids from both Texas and the New Jersey area. Iowa has lost that with Ferentz and Wisconsin has picked up that 2nd tier Texas pipeline. Minnesota has also taken some kids that normally stayed in Iowa. So those three compete for some of the same kids and there is simply not enough to go around and to allow them to compete at an elite level every year...generally one will be pretty good and the other two also ran's. Purdue, Northwestern and the lackies of the conference sometimes have decent records when they have a stud player or two and can beat some of the mid level Iowa's of the conference. Illinois confuses me personally, because they had a very good recruiting class last year and good year this year..as long as they get kids out of the Chicago area from Notre Dumb then they should be competitive with the mid level schools, beat the lackies and pull the occassional upset of the big three, but I cannot see them as a long term factor to the big three.

Michigan and Ohio State should ... should...IMHO be competing every year for a NC game. It is a short season in a weak conference the big three OSU, PSU and Meat chicken should be playing each other for a NC birth. Their out of conference schedule is generally weak with a sprinkling of mid level competition that they should beat. The top kids in the MW generally go to those 3 schools with as you guys stated a few out of state studs. Their is better opportunity to be in a NC game at the top of the B10 than the SEC...without doubt IMHO.

The B10 ia top heavy...the SEC is just brutal with UF, Auburn, Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee, all NC capable generally over the long haul. Throw in the occassional Arkansas, Kentucky, and SC being able to compete with any but not all of those teams most years...that is the class conference...IMHO....................

they compete with Michigan for Ohio kids, but Michigan mostly recruits the Northern Ohio kids ( a lot of guys from Warren have been on the team). Michigan never gets anybody from Ted Ginn Sr.'s school (either go to OSU or another Big 10 program), and most kids that grow up in Ohio, unless close to Michigan, go to Ohio State (Fred Davis being the biggest exception). Cincy might start to pluck some 4*s away from OSU with Kelly's style of play, but if you live in Ohio and you're a good player, you go to Ohio State or Michigan. Same with how in Texas you go to Texas or Oklahoma. Only difference is that the guys in Ohio Michigan and OSU don't want are usually not that good.

With the draft getting as deep as it is, it might be in their best interest to stay.

Jenkins? won't hurt him. Unless he blows out his ACL he should be the top CB taken next year and there really isn't anybody who could challenge him (maybe Justin King, but he'd need a huge year).

Boone? Won't hurt, but could help. He's a 2nd/3rd round pick. Unless he falls apart, he'll be in the same area, but with a solid senior year he could be a top 15 pick.

Little Animal? IMO it could only hurt him (non biasness here). A lot of NFL scouts were not impressed with him during the LSU game, and he already he already had a bit of a rep in NFL circles as a guy who disappears in big games (probably unfair, but I'm just reporting what some draft gurus have said). If he comes back, he'll be under a huge microscope. He leaves, he'll be the first LB taken (probably to the Pats) he stays, he could see himself fall due to nitpicking (plus people falling in love with Rey Mauluga,Sean Lee, and Brian Cushing)

JL needs to work on Blitz penetration.

He gets swallowed at the line. Other than that he has all the tools to be a great LB.
