Brown finally made a play in the 4th quarter with the sack and strip albeit on the back of some diabolical LT play. But getting consistently blocked one on one by Garrett Graham wasn't good. Actually the best play he made all game was when he shifted to DT on the first 3rd down play of the drive after his sack and forced fumble and he showed an excellent double spin on Travis Bright. I swear down Miami is going nowhere close to this kid. Carries the seriously overrated tag for me. Absolutely could do with another year in Tallahassee.

I can understand the fascination with his speed, and athleticism. But, the NFL isn't all about speed and athleticism. Davone Bess doesn't have great speed, nor as much athleticism as Brown probably does, but he can make plays.

Brown I think is in for a rude awakening when he gets to Sundays - everyone has that now. He could be very good if he works at it, and gains an extra move or two. Honestly, the best thing would be for him to fall and wind up in a place where he wouldn't be needed to be the leader on the defensive line right away. I mean, if Brown ends up in Washington for instance, it could be great for his career, as he could learn for his first year, and hopefully apply it.

I just struggle to see where a guy who is consistently inconsistent is grading out so highly? He is move-redundant at this point. Yep he's got athletic ability in spades and a good bubble and strong thighs and he stayed on his feet pretty well on the edge, but he was a non factor rushing the passer, he was a non factor against the run, he gets spelled frequently in ALL games by Markus White who looks a better long term player anyway. It's not even like he's working his hands and fighting with the tackle all the time. Man, I'm critical of Orakpo for the same stuff but the guy at least uses his hands and when he bullrushes, he really can bullrush. Brown got the sack and then all of a sudden he was awake; he was first off the ball, he was showing some double moves, he was working a pretty decent short area senior guard and making him look silly. Why wait till mid 4th quarter in what is all likelihood your final game?

Last two games at FSU he's had one sack, no pressures, no impact plays against the run, no passes batted down, but I reckon I'd be into the twenties on the amount of times he's run blind at Tebow or Sherer without a clue as to where the ball is because he's bitten on a playfake or not seen the mis-direction. With that in mind, does he even have the instincts to play OLB on a Sunday?

That is the million dollar question.

    Dick Vermeil said

"I'd take the guy with great instincts that runs a 4.6 over a guy with poor instincts who runs a 4.3. The guy who has better instincts makes more plays - his instincts make up for the lack of speed, there's no making up for a lack of instincts.........doesn't matter how fast you are."

He doesn't look NFL aware out there. Watching Aaron Curry the other day against Navy or even Shaughnessy today, etc., that ability not to aimlessly think that the QB has the ball when trickeration and ball handling are so much better on Sundays, is so key.

If I'm an NFL coach watching Brown and he starts week 1 against me, I'm running so many little ball fakes because the backside behind him will be open all day and all night because he's so keyed on getting to the QB.

Do you really want to rub it in and have the running back chip him on his way out into the pattern? I mean why let him keep any semblance of dignity,...right?

How about a FB fake running back toss play? Delay? :whistling:

Not a draft prospect, but what are your thoughts on Jason Brown of the Ravens? He's a free agent after this year, and has the dimensions at 6'3" 315-320lbs. that this regime seems to like in their interior linemen.

It also might save us a draft pick for another position.

Very, very good player. Will be amazed if the Ravens let him go, but he's the glue that binds that unit together.

We would have to hope for Ravens to burn the franchise tag on Suggs then they could only transition tag Brown and that may be worth the price. Franchise tags used to be a way to keep your stars now its just used to deny free agency. I would like to see it go bye bye in the new CBA

Back to Brown for a second and I know they play different collegiate positions but Mark Herzlich of BC is a football player who does everything right. It's night and day watching Brown try and be the player that Herzlich is.

The Ravens are going to have some tough decisions regarding FA. Suggs is probably a lock to get tagged, but that still leaves Ray Lewis, Bart Scott and Brown as guys they'll want to lock up. Probably can't get all of them back, which could leave us to strike early (like we did with Smiley) and snag Brown. Would be a big, physical presence in the middle of the line and allow Satele to shift to guard. After what has happened this season, I don't think the front office will want to be this short-handed on interior linemen again.
