We have not heard a peep from him. I have even more respect for him that he hired coaches and then let them do their job.
Wow, good to see you LUG! And yes, I am surprised to hear so little from Parcells. I think it is a credit to Sparano as he has truly made this his team. When the season started, most of the talking heads kept talking about Parcells' team in Miami, seemingly ignoring Sparano. In a matter of weeks, he was able to grab the attention away from Bill and bring it to himself and the play of his team. It really is a credit to him and what he was able to accomplish.
I was watching SportsCenter thee other day and they mentioned that Bill Parcells hasn't traveled to a single game this year. I was surprised. I think Parcell's takes part in acquiring talent and it stops there. I think Sparano has done a marvelous job coaching this team up and deserves as much credit as the next guy.
Parcell's had a hands on presence at training camp. once the doors closed to the public, not sure what that evolved to.
He's got people to do his work for him. He is now officially the boss. Definitely deserves it with his career. Also; just because the talking heads aren't reporting much and neither is the media and he doesn't travel to games doesn't mean he doesn't do a lot behind the scenes as some folks here have said. ie. scouting, camp, etc. Who knows what he does in that office?
He's the de factor senior GM. Ireland handles about 95% of the GM duties, but shares some of it with Parcells. He has one toe in, one toe out. Just like he wants it. He can peel off and go golfing, shopping, fishing whatever. And then he can come right back in, get debriefed, and be involved that way as well.
IMO, Parcell's is not that "hands off", someone in the media made the point that the only reason why Chad Pennington signed with a 1-15 team wasn't the warm weather and sunny beaches..it was do to Tuna's presence.. The Jake Long pick, the JT trade, Zach leaving etc etc I think what does drive Parcells is a desire to defeat Bill Belicheat, IMO there is just something personal between the two of them, and all of the Cowboy's staff we brought in via "promotions..." means Parcells gains more by being quite this season.
No I didn't, and it was one of the big questions I had when the move was made to give him this position. He has always been a very hands on guy and I questioned whether he was going to be able to sit back and let the coaches/gm do their job. Much to my surprise he has stayed out of the spotlight though I think Bill does still pull some strings behind the scenes on the personnel side.
I am surprised to read that Parcells is not going to THIS game, though. I understand (and respect) his "hand's off" approach all season, but this is one's huge, everyone knows how big a role he's played in the team's success this year, and I honestly think he should be there. What are your thoughts?
I'd prefer if he went to the game, to me it would add a bit of a boost to the players knowing that Parcells traveled up for the game.
The man is a football genious and i never questioned his motives when he arrived. were so solucky to have him.. Respect the avatar baby.
I think the same thing dj...but do consider that one of the things that Tuna said brought him to Miami, and literally turned his private jet around in mid flight to take the Atlanta job was Tuna mentioning "Wayne H is well liked by people we both know".. Err...yeah, okay, so Wayne H is soo nice that he can turn lear jets around in midflight...if not, then it could have been that #1 draft pick (doubtful) or the chance to go head to head with the Patriots Organization...the same one that pretty much ran him out of MA...and then made him look worse with the Belicheat fiasco when Tuna left the Jets..then Belicheck left them 45 minutes after being announced as the head coach..
There it is, Tuna would just love to get over on Belicheck, that is what turned that plane around, that is what makes Tuna stay despite the blather about not wanting to come to a team that is about to be sold. What an odd game this will be: "If" we win, Belicheck, and his one time protegy Mangini are both out of the playoffs, and Tuna hits a sort of daily double over Belicheck, if Sparano also defeats Mangini head to head, the Tuna Coaching Tree will once again triumph over the Belichek coaching tree, and to make things even more interesting, Fredo Mangini has already sold out his mentor Belichek via TapeGate..
Well Padre, this is how i felt it went down. He had an open mind to both positions, he wanted to take a team that had bottomed out and rebuild it from scratch, I think Mr. h had something to do with it, i think our history had something to do with it and i think where he resides had something to do with it {jupiter fl.} i'am not in the least upset because he saw a # 1 pick and a chance to prove that his legacy is legit. Some wanted to challenge him by saying that the reason why the giants won was because of belicek, So taking the dolphin job was the best way to go head to head.... ok, i can respect that. i'am not sure of all the details between him and BB but for some reason i dont think that was the determining factor. and if it was, i'am all good, he's a grown man and we all have to keep proving ourselves in our own way. My respect for Parcells comes from one man {myself} feeling a presense and intelligence of another...he just makes so much sense to me when he talks, I believe he's a very honest person, and when he takes a job and is allowed to do his job correctly, i think he's 100 percent committed....until some idiots start to question his decisions. That won't be happening here and is a reason why i think this will be his last stop, and will be involved in our team in some capacity until they day he dies. I believe he's growing a true fondness for our franchise because in a sense, its his baby, i also believe that there are very few men that can inspire other men to follow because of that presense and intelligence i speak of. I know i would play my best for him. Is he perfect?....no....is he the closest thing to perfect in a football sense in my era??....yes, i believe he is, and he's proving it right now...The greatest turn around in NFL history....what a start in solidifying his legacy.
