LBP was also high on my list, but Fallout 3 took it for me EASILY. Way to captivating and engaging to pass up. Brilliant in every facet of the game.
A tie between Fallout3 and Smash Bros for me. Smash just provides so much fun at school, but Fallout is probably the better game.
Smash Bros was fun for the first hour I played. Not so much after one hour. MGS4 was fun for hours. Solid Snake pwns.
Those who failed to chose Fallout 3 should be allowed to go back and change their vote to the one that obviously deserves it the most.
MGS4 for sure. The microwave tunnel scene with you tapping the **** out of the X button while Otacon is encouraging Snake was probably the most immersive situation I've ever encountered in a video game before. Last battle scene was pure sex.
I chose Dead Space. For me it was this years bioshock. The game I've played the most this year is Smash bros, and i lvoe it, but it ain't GOTY.
mass effect (and fallout really) are two different kind of games in one. On one hand, mass effect plays like a third person shooter. When your in combat, you have to take cover, shoot at your enemies and use your powers (kind of like force powers) to knock enemies back, send them in the air, freeze them, etc. But the actual gameplay is pure RPG. THey give you a hub world, you walk around meeting new characters, they usually give you random missions (some you have to do, some you don't). The missions vary from finding a certain item to having to go kill someone/convince them to leave etc. The beauty of fallout/mass effect was there was never usually 'one way' to do something. You could do most the missions anyway you chose. If you needed the guys co-operation, you could convince him through charm, or scare him through intimidation. You could kill him, or you could just leave him alone and not do the mission. In the case of Fallout, you could literally beat the game without doing 60-70% of the missions, and the missions you had to do could be done in just about 100 different ways.
I loved MGS4... I couldn't vote for it as GoY because in the end it's like a movie. Yes, they're great, but once you know what happens it's over. MGS is way too scripted for me to ever touch again. The Multiplayer is terrible (if anyone still plays it, maybe they fixed the issues with it).
And for those that wanted to know what Fallout 3 is like, I'd say it's a post apocalyptic Oblivion. But WAY better imo.
If I could have voted for both games I would have, I decided to go with MGS4 though. Probably the whole Konami Id, game id thing. Metal Gear Online is most likely the best multiplayer shooter I've ever played, I only stopped playing it because of the awful lag (my crappy connection is totally at fault though). I'd rather play the lag-free Resistance 2 which is awesome as well.
While annoying, the "multiple logins" thing doesn't really detract from MGO. At least, I don't believe it does. My complaint with MGO is the lack of weapon variety and the inability to call in support. Mei Ling is playable thanks to the MEME expansion, so she can call in naval bombardments, but it's not the same as being able to get mortar or air support.
I picked MGS4. However, if i had to pick the best 360 game my vote would go to Fallout 3. I loved both games, but i've been with MGS for 10 years.
I voted GOW2, it didn't let me down at all. Fallout 3 (although I am at this very moment playing it through a second time ) comes in second as I stopped playing in the beginning. My bro had to force me back into it, but once he did I couldn't put it down. Because of this Dead Space comes in a very close third (it would have been second if I hadn't picked up F3 again). LBP is... err - cute
This. I feel the same way. I would go one step further, too... The game just isn't that great. It has it's moments (parts 4-5) but it just didn't do it for me. Part 3 might be the biggest waste of time EVER. But I've already said as much in the MGS4 thread. I voted Gears 2. The campaign was epic. Online co-cop is a blast and online multiplayer is awesome. My only issue is the horrible match making system. The only reason I have not bought it yet. Left 4 Dead has a chance though. The DLC (which will be free if Valve has their way) can make it one of the best games ever. It's already a blast, almost impossible to beat (I've done only beaten 1/4 on expert), and multiplayer is pretty good, too. I should be getting Fallout 3 in a few days.
I went with Fallout 3. How many games have you ever beat only to immediately load one of your previous saves so you can explore the game even more.
I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore, by any means, though I used to be when I was younger and found myself with a lot of time on my hands. Nowadays though, I travel a lot, so my gaming opportunities are a bit limited. Here's my top games for 2008. I probably would have voted for Goo or Braid, had they been on the list. 9. Rez HD 8. Boom Blox 7. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 6. Wii Fit 5. Castle Crashers 4. Rock Band 2 3. Grand Theft Auto IV 2. World of Goo 1. Braid I also need some help because I got some money for Christmas and I'm debating on which game I should get next. I want something relatively lengthy that I can enjoy and play for a wile. Right now I'm leaning towards one of these: - Fallout 3 - Fable II - Left 4 Dead Any suggestions?
Goo is the Poo, nice picks there. As for your choices there, do you want something INCREDIBLY lengthy? Cause Fallout 3 is by far the longest game on that list. It's a phenomenal game but quite frankly you described yourself as someone who probably won't have the time to play it to much. (The game is around 100hrs long, but the majority of players play it for about 40-50 hours) that said, you might have more fun with Fable II. It's about 10-12 hours long. Its an epic and fun quest that keeps you interested all the way through. I thoroughly enjoyed the game. Now i have a question for you, is Braid REALLY worth $15? I've thought of buying it but i just never get past the price.
Fable II is fun, but I think Left 4 Dead is more fun. Haven't had the pleasue of playing Fallout 3 yet.
Yeah, I def. don't have 40 or 50 hours to devote to beating it ... that may be a bit too long for me. I'm leaning towards Fable II, I played the first one and, while I thought it was a bit flawed, enjoyed it. As far as Braid goes, I'm of the opinion that the level design alone is worth the price ... the music is top notch, and the game itself is incredibly fun. It's easy enough to pick up and play, but it's hard enough that it will keep you interested. I really enjoyed it.
For the record, I beat Fallout 3 WAAAAAY under 100hrs. I didn't do everything, but I did a HELL of a lot of stuff and felt completely satisfied with the game.
well yeah. i didn't mean to say it was 100 hours to beat. But if you really want the full experience then it will take 40+ hours at least. I loved the game but i was just getting angry and bored with the game around 40 hours. I had my fill as soon as i finished hunting down the last super behemoths.
