Flacco was a better QB than Ryan this year.

Both were outstanding but ROTY should goto Joe Flacco IMO.

Might be alone on this but I felt Flacco was much more of composed QB than Ryan.

Who do you think wins ROTY?

Eh, I thought Ryan has Flacco beat in pretty much any category. Threw for more yards, had a higher completion % with a higher ypa avg, considerably less fumbles and picks. Ryan has looked like a seasoned pro especially in no-huddle situations while Flacco's still locking onto WR's.

I got to see Ryan play a lot this year, I think he deserves it. The Ravens have a pretty stacked team, Ryan had so many things to overcome on that team. He did get a ton of help from Turner but I'd give the nod to Ryan over Flacco.

Phil Simms today on the radio said that Flacco can make throws that Ryan would not dream of trying.

That being said, Ryan had a better year.

I dont see the big deal about Matt Ryan honestly. His supporting cast on offense, in my opinion, is much better than what Flacco has. Maybe you havent seen it because of inept Atlanta QB play in the past, but it's there.

Also every time I saw Ryan play, he was doing stupid things like throwing off his back foot, and yes locking onto receivers. I'm not saying he doesn't have a bright future, but honestly if I was taking one of them...yes it's Flacco.

I think Ryan deserved it over Flacco, but I think Long and Clady deserved it over both of them :P

    3. Or maybe ur high for not listening to him.

I think they both did some really great things this year. Both will be franchise QBs for their teams moving forward. But Atlanta didn't have the defense Baltimore did, and Ryan still led them to 11 wins.

I'd be curious to know what Henne (the most NFL ready QB in the 2008 draft) would have done this year. I think we could potentially still be sitting at 11-5 with Henne.

    Flacco's last 4 games

    vs. Washington - 10-21, 134 yards, 1TD 1 INT

    vs. Pittsburgh - 11-28, 115 yards, 0 TD 2 INT

    @ Dallas - 17-25, 149 yards, 1 TD 0 INT

    vs. Jacksonville - 17-23, 297 yards, 0 TD 0 INT

Yeah your right he was really lighting teams up the past month. His best game came against a team who couldn't wait for the season to end and was without their best secondary player.

Well Pitt has an extremely tough defense. Washington was off and on, probably should have had a better game.

His last two games were extremely solid though in my opinion.

Wow, only 2 TDs in the last four games. Our defense is gonna key on the run big time. If a QB has a completetion percentage as good as Flacco's in the last 2 games, and has only 1 TD, that indicates a lot of run plays in the red zone. I'm looking forward to seeing what Sparano comes up with to exploit this tendency.

Points dont show it all bro. It is the way he controls the game. Plus he is a rookie qb of course he is going to fade at the end of the season he has to get use to playing 16 games plus the playoffs. Man give the guy a break.

Totally disagree with this. Flacco fell into a mediocre position with an excellent defense and one of the best O coordinators in the game. Ryan got the keys to the Falcons training room and was told to have fun.

I think Matt Ryan deserved the ROTY over Flacco (However I think Clady and Long were much better choices), But I think Flacco is a much better QB with alot more upside.

Nothing against Joe Flacco as he did a great job in his rookie year, but Ryan is a much better QB and deserves the roty award. The only regrets is we passed on him.

We passed on him what about Jake Long. To me Jake Long deserves it. But they would never give it to an O-linmen because it is not an popular postition.

I don't regret Long but if we had drafted Matt Ryan, I'd be happy anyways. Was not a Henne fan in the draft. May be me, but I had Drew Bledsoe vibes and not the one that played for the Patriots and Bills.

Either I'm missing something or seeing things, I do not believe Long lived up to all the hype. Many times he was burned giving up sacks, plus he commited penalties that hurt the team. In week one alone he commited more penalties then all his 26 college games.
Quality QBs are are a rare gem that make great teams, and we missed one in Matt Ryan.
Why is it we hardly run on the Jake Longs side, could it be he isn't opening up holes ?

I'm not sure which games you were watching.

    1) He only gave up 2.5 sacks on the season.
    2) One of those was his first game. The other was the game after his injury (if I recall correctly)
    3) I can only remember maybe 3 penalties on him all season.
    4) Teams mostly run to the right. It's just easier on the runningback. It's what you call the 'vision' side when you play. Most big runs to the left are cutbacks.
    5) No matter how good he is, he cant block everyone. Just because we dont run left doesnt make it exclusively his fault.

Um, the Ravens defense....I said team not offense it would be easier for a Qb to win on the Ravens. The Ravens didn't have the off the field drama of replacing Michael Vick or anything like that either. I love what Flacco has done this year, he deserves a lot of credit but Ryan was the ROY no doubt about it.

Don't forget in the wildcat Long was moved to the right side alot because he is such a great blocker as well.

I would also like to say that Chris Johnson very well could have won it over everyone and I would not have had a problem with it

What are you talking about bro. He hardly committed any penaltys. I think he gave up 2.5 and plus one of those sacks was in his first games. Plus he gets moved over when we run the wildcat so he must be good at blocking. Jake Long is also not going to go to the coaches and tell them to run it to the left. Jake Long is good at blocking if he was not you think he would be starting all 16 games. He also came back from an injury in the middle of the St.Louis. Watch this video and listen to the Wildcat part.

Matt Ryan outplayed Joe Flacco all year. What Ryan did with that Atlanta team, was very impressive not only for a rookie, but even a veteran. There is no doubt in my mind that Ryan is a better quarterback than Flacco.

You lack faith in our FO in finding sufficient protection? I find this argument amusing, because - They were so great in finding Long, yet if they don't get him they would never be able to find sufficient prospects/pieces for our Oline? That's arguing that they were lucky they found Long, not that they were good enough to determine his value on their own.

Vernon Carey wasn't that bad last year. I mean, I can't say for sure he was as very good, but he said himself he graded out well. All we would have needed was one more piece at RT, or can Donald Thomas have played that side? Maybe he doesn't get injured as a RT :D but I'm not sure his style would have allowed him to. Maybe all we need is a center and slide Satele to the RG etc.

not picking Long doesn't mean we don't have protection

Speaking of Long and Baltimore, he was only credited for giving up two sacks, but he definitely caused one more. And I believe it was the Baltimore game where his guy bull rushed him, and this guy was much smaller, pushed him right into Pennginton and Long bumped Pennington. Chad had to tuck the ball and move forward, not knowing what just hit him, he ran right into the other team's leading sacker. Long clearly gave up that sack.

I wouldn't have mind if Vernon Carey was still at LT. He was a decent one and not at all a dropoff from Ryan's current LT, Sam Baker. You never know, they might have even selected or signed a suitable OT to go with Ryan. jdang said it best.

Sparano IS an offensive line coach first and foremost. If he had no faith in Carey then it is what it is. I thought about the "what if" factor with Matt Ryan and while he may pan out to be one of the best in the NFL for yrs, I am happy with Long.

I am as well. We're in the playoffs. Alot of people are happy with Long's play, and that's totally cool. I'm not one to second guess 11-5. From 1-15 to 11-5. Look at it, it's just a hyphen move, pretty nifty.

In any event, I'm just saying, ,don't assume if we don't pick Long that all of a sudden our O-line is only high school quality. I have full faith that Parcells et al would have solved that, if they didn't pick Long. They did though, and we're in the playoffs so who cares. We just have to hope Ryan doesn't go on to have a HOF career, while Henne stinks the joint up. We'll see.
