Not sure how you can say Cutler needs more time and then comeback with Eli Manning whose just as inconsistent. Don't give me he won a ring, he was part of that team but he wasn't as big as that front seven. What about Brady?
Ooooh oooh A. No B! No its A maybe? Yeah definately A. Wait, lemme call a timeout to think it over. Oh? I have all day to think it over and wasted a timeout? Crap. Well, the running game is going OK, lets catch em offguard and pass it! But another timeout first.
Ryan may not take that long I watched him in the Cards game and he was impressive and to beat it all is a rookie. I thought I was watching a veteran QB out there, the guy just has it. Rivers I also agree is a big time QB but Cutler not so much. Even with his bad defense right now he is just too inconsistent. However I see his potential because he is still a young QB and is clearly the best of that 2006 class. He has yet to really impress me I guess.
Part of Jay's problem this year was I think he tried to hard to make up for our horrible defense. Plus it doesn't help when you have SEVEN running backs go on IR. All Jay really needs to do is work on not locking right onto a WR, he did that alot with Brandon Marshall.
Let go the mancrush alen! Nah, hes a really good QB. I think hes a step away, but its a step he should and will almost probably take next year.
We'll have to agree to disagree on Cutler. Ryan, you may be right about. Agreed. I can't blame him for locking onto Marshall. Cutler can make any throw needed and despite him locking on, will complete it. Those throws against the Jets in the cold were incredible. Why do you think he's a step away but you give Eli Manning the elite tag?
My goodness Manning is carving that SD defense right now. I would like to see an Indy blowout win tonight and show 8-8 teams don't belong in the playoffs (yes I know they were the best in their division but still doesn't impress me).
I don't blame him either, but sometimes it just got really annoying when someone else was wide open, but Jay didn't see them because he was just watching Marshall the whole time. Plus, Brandon was off this year, it must have been the nerve damage in his arm (damn you, stupid McDonald's bag ). He dropped alot of passes. And yeah, Jay amazed me every single week with his arm strength. I think I yelled "HOLY ****, HOW DID HE DO THAT" every week
I think so, there are players that scouts love, and then there are players who get the job done extremely efficiently, Pennington is one of those Qb's. Probably one of the better accuracy/touch/timing passers in the NFL who never played in the West Coast Offense in San Francisco.
You thought Ryan was impressive today? I think the Falcons had 0 first downs in the 2nd half until 7 minutes in the 4th quarter when finally down by 13. He continuously made rookie mistakes like underthrowing receivers resulting in turnovers, locking onto receivers which resulted in an INT and lastly holding onto the ball too long for that crucial safety, and he constantly fell out of his throws on his back foot when he didn't need to which resulted in bad throws. All of his success today came from check down passes. And not to call out the Matt Ryan fan club here because I, too, think he CAN be elite, BUT.....Today is the first time in a long time that that running game didn't show up and Matt Ryan had to carry the team on his shoulders and he simply did not do it. In fact, he sort of choked today. And that's not really a knock because I do realize that he is a rookie
Elite QBs (IMO) P. Manning T. Brady D. Brees P. Rivers C. Palmer E. Manning K. Warner On the cusp C. Pennington J. Cutler M. Hasselbeck M. Ryan A. Rodgers D. McNabb T. Romo B. Roethlisberger J. Flacco M. Cassel
I hear ya. That makes two of us. I'm a fan of the Broncos, always been but Cutler is my favorite QB out there. Cassel makes it because of 15 weeks of good play? Flacco? Not sure how you can leave out Pennington, Hasselbeck, and McNabb but have Eli Manning in there.
Best player on the Chargers right now is the punter Ciphers (sp) three punts and three pins inside the 10 yd line.
what the hell? how did this thread get hijacked? it's a game thread not a coach thread, or a best quarterback in the league thread. jeezus. nice ST coverage by SD.
He's a rookie and did make rookie mistakes but overall I was impressed and thought he for the most part looked like a good veteran QB out there. The guy just doesn't look like a rookie to me, he made mistakes but they were mistakes any veteran QB would make.
Cassel makes the 'on the cusp' list because he has shown he can be an elite QB in the right system. He is showing the same things that Brady showed early in his career. My elite list includes only QBs that can make EVERY throw. That was the deciding factor with Eli. Hasselbeck was a tough choice and could have gone either way. Pennington is GREAT, but not elite. He does not have a fully developed downfield passing attack. McNabb's accuracy is an issue for me. One could make a case for McNabb, but I wouldnt be on that side of the arguement.
McNabb and Hasselbeck are not elite imo. Neither is Penny. Hes a very solid and consistent starter, but hes not gonna put you on his back during a shootout and say "No way we lose this game." Cassell needs another year before being considered. Garrard was terrible this year, and Id put Palmer down a notch as well. Granted that whole team is a mess, but hes not raising them up. IMO Manning/Brady are the game changers. Really though we could argue all day lol, alot is just opinion and personal likes/dislikes
There were times in which Ryan looked like a veteran QB (the nine straight completions) and then there were times in which he looked like a rookie, which he is. In the end, the rookie times outweighed the veteran times and they lost.
Well, so far the Colts have not really clicked on offense, that punter is really pinning their ears back down inside the 10.
Which I pin on the Falcons defense. I agree he made mistakes but this guy looks nothing like a typical rookie.
Has Madden continuiously declared his love for LT? I haven't really been paying attention. He did that the whole frickin game last week.
15 weeks? 15. I completely disagree that he's on the cusp. I still don't think he's the quarterback he's made out to be because I think Josh McDaniels has had a bigger impact on him than others. Me and you don't share the same definition for elite then. If your list includes players who can make all the throws, why don't we add Jay Cutler to it? That makes no sense. Are you going back to his "noodle arm" thinking? He can make the throws downfield, just get him a wide open WR and I think he'll show you. He's led his team to the Super Bowl, 4 NFC Championship games and has never had a completion percentage lower than 57% (outside of his rookie year).
What about the underthrown interception? Holding the ball too long for a safety? That goes on Ryan. IMO, Hasselbeck and McNabb are extremely underrated.
I think he means Chad is a great QB but not in league of the best in the league. In other words good but not great.
He was playing from behind and trying to make things happen. The same thing many other QBs have done.
Him playing from behind shouldn't be the reason he holds on to the ball too long or throws the pass short of the receiver.
