zero sacks.....(and other rumblings) we had none....that kills us.... pennington is the reason we won 11 games..... pennington (imo) is the reason we lost this game....killed momentum....killed drives....killed our chances.... yet I give our crowd credit....no boo'ing....and were still cheering loud at the end of the ball game!! is it april yet?
I think a lot of blame has to go on Pennington he cost us the game with terrible decisions. We still had a chance in the 4th quarter but after Ginn botched the reverse it was over, had he been able to control the handoff that play goes for a TD IMO.
Chad made some bad decisions yes, but he was also getting pounded. That play were Carey turned around and Pennington is going down, I was like come on Carey.
That's true FFiC, he was getting beat up back there. Trevor Pryce did a hell of a job dominating Vernon Carey but in the end, Pennington made awful mistakes. A floater to Ed Reed, a INT in double coverage and a couple others. You can't make those mistakes and expect to win.
If the QB is getting pressured you blame the line not the QB. He can pass, he can hand the ball off. But he's not "x" amount of guys in front of him to have the protection he needs to get the ball off efficiently, smartly and accurately.
penny threw into double and triple coverage way too much!!!! he played like the rookie.....its sad 7 picks in 16 games......4 ints in 1 game is choking no other way to put it....
Point is that when he wasn't pressured, he still made mistakes; i.e. the double coverage throw to Fabian Washington. Pennington made awful decisions the whole day.
So, you start a thread about how or D came up with 0 sacks and then turn the blame to Chad uh? Not saying it's our D's fault, I just don't understand the point of the thread with that title
That was the biggest problem IMO. If you give any QB that much time, they will eventually pick you apart. We've seen that to be true way too many times.
QBs are going to make mistakes. It's a shame it was in the playoffs and not in the regular season. If you're not taking a chance in the playoffs to win a game when do you take the chance?
I agree with you on most of this. I think the defensive line didn't show up on passing downs, but there were also a few pretty obvious holding calls that weren't called like the one deep pass Flacco threw to Mason before halftime. Pennington- I think Pennington by far had his worst day as a dolphin obviously, but I mean, he didn't get a whole lot of protection. He still however, made some bone head plays. Also late in the game, on his second INT he threw to Ed Reed, Reed did make a sensational play on that ball, but still Pennington had a terrible game. Offensive Play Calling- I would've liked to have seen more of the pass plays out of the Wildcat. We ran it twice all day, and then we didn't see it again. I would have liked to see some trickery, some gadget plays out of that formation. Ted Ginn- He made a few catches late in the game, but all the passes were on target for the most part. One of the things that he did that really made me mad was on the last kickoff that he returned he just looked like he wasn;t even trying and just stepped out at the 20. Where is the Ted Ginn I loved at Ohio State?? Where is the Ted Ginn that could take punts and kicks back to the house all the time in college?? I want that Ted Ginn back..not the one he has been lately..he looks like he's scared. And I didn't even mention the reverse play that he messed up, which after that all hopes were pretty much gone.
Very true. And i thought since Flacco is a rookie, that we would blitz the hell outta him to try and make him make rookie mistakes like Matt Ryan did against the Cardinals.
I think we all did expect Pennington to play very well today, becuase he has played at a high level all year. I honestly thought if Pennington was going to have a bad game that it would be against the Jets, and not in the playoffs..but I was wrong about that.
The 2nd to last or last sack came when Baltimore only rushed 3.. Carey got burned bad on that one... Our Oline played pathetically during this game for the most part.. When you rush 3, and get straight to the QB, there is no excuse for that
I'm all fine with taking chances but don't take dumb ones. Double coverage twice and threw it, both throws resulting in interceptions. That pick six he threw was god awful.
We knew what we were getting into. The calendar switched to 2009 and we know that Chad Pennington plays terrible football and hurts his shoulder in odd numbered years. That's why he was the comeback player of the year in 2006 and 2008. Because he was good in 2004 but terrible in 05 and 07.
another pick came when he threw the ball into TRIPLE coverage... How can you throw the ball like that. I couldnt believe it when I saw the replay... Just throw the ball away man
Im not taking anything away from him though for the season... He was mainly the reason we got to where we are... the only thing for next season is now, is it considered a failure if we go like 8-8 or 9-7 and miss the playoffs? Considering this seasonw e werent even expected to make the playoffs
Neither am I. I'm happy he's our Quarterback and I'm happy what he's done for us but he didn't play like he usually does. In my opinion, no. We have a tough schedule next year and I expect us to take a step back.
Yeah. I made a thread about this awhile back. I guess it's good that we can and should expect good things to come, rather than looking at a 4 win season as a success, as much as many people predicted we would win this year and expected coming off of a one win season. In the end, as die hard Phinfans, we all want to win every game from here to eternity, well I do, so anything less is a disappointment anyway. =)
Yes but you can't put this all on Chad. He got us to where we are now, and with out him we wouldn't even be in the playoffs. Thanks for the great season Miami Dolphins!
That offensive line was so bad on some plays, it was like they were moving out of the way so they could get to Chad faster.
Not putting it all but I am most of it. He did take us to the playoffs but he didn't deliver when he got there. He made some poor decisions and was one of the reasons we lost this game.
Yes brother he made mistakes, and I am not doubting that, but if we would of been able to keep him up right more or from running for his life quite a bit we could of had a closer game.
That's a good point and possibly true. He did make bad decisions though, throwing in double coverage at least twice.
Even with the terrible day, if Ginn gets that end around we're talking about how he stayed poised and led us back from behind to win the game after that terrible start. Yes, if Ginn gets that end around he most likely scores, and I think if he scores we have so much momentum we do end up with the win.
Didn't Pennington get crushed just after he let that ball go? Or was that the 1st Reed interception? I remember that the Ravens overloaded our right hand side and Pennington took a hell of a hit just as he let the ball go. I'm sure the 1st 3 ints were all caused by the Ravens getting pressure and Pennington having to get rid of the ball in a hurry.
I don't think he did, he was expecting a handoff from Pennington but at the last second Pennington is forced to pitch it due to Ray Lewis hanging all over him (again). Ginn couldn't adjust quickly enough to grab the ball in mid flight.
I've no doubt Ginn scores, look at the replay that side of the field is wide open. I still think the Ravens go on to win the game though.
