Wilford: “They never gave me an opportunity”
A memorable season for the Dolphins was a forgettable one for high-priced free agent wide receiver Ernest Wilford.

Wilford, who earned $7 million this season, felt like he didn’t receive a fair chance.

“That’s on them,” he said. “They never gave me an opportunity. It’s all in their hands now.

    “Hey, we’ll see what happens.”

    Yeah, sure they didn't.... :pity:

I'm so sure these guys brought Wilford in for Millions to "not give him a fair shot". When you're brought in as a high profile FA acquisition like he was you get every chance possible to show you're worthy of starting. This guy already milked a multi million dollar paycheck for nothing and now he's got to come out in the media and blame the team for his failure? What a douche.

    Just go away Wilford.

    Idiot.

Just an idiot. The day after playoff loss, you come up with the "hey what about me" nonsense.

I liked the comment to the article -
"When Brandon London is on the field and you're not even activated, you've got to know something's wrong".

He's a good guy. Does good things outside of football.

I don't think he's coming out on his own saying this. They asked him questions about it. I think it probably reads worse than it is. Context I think.

Having met Ernest earlier this year I have to say this is the biggest head scratcher of our season. He was a really bright guy and I cant imagine why he wasn't on the field more.

Not activating him for the game yesterday is even more confusing. I guess we'll never know...

I don;t want to excoriate him for being frustrated. I mean, he was a free agent, let's remember, so he had a CHOICE of where to go and he probably chose Miami because he was told he'd be the likely #1WR.

Now, it's his own damned fault he lost that job, but Ernest came in expecting to play and then wasn;t even active. He has endured a season of frustration, I am sure, and probably questioned his own decision to sign with us.

It would be best for both parties if we parted ways, I think.

Being a good guy dosen't make his assertion any less idiotic IMO.
He didn't earn his keep. He should be embarrassed about it enough to just collect his millions, shut the hell up and move on in silence.

It's not like he was competing against a bunch of elite receivers when he got here. :pity: Hopefully we'll find a stud in the draft or pick up a good FA that doesn't come with the usual WR baggage.

    Absolutely confusing!

He must have made a joke about Sparano's mother or something to be left inactive for so much of the season. It's really hard to believe he is that bad of a WR not to be brought to a playoff game when we are that thin at that position.

one thing i'll say about our WRs and tight ends, is by week 6 they were VERY reliable. very few drops. even with London, who proved to be a great ST'er and very passionate. but the guys we ran with receiver wise just didnt drop the ball much, save for Ginn in traffic. but still, the kid has good hands too, and took some licks this year.

The more I think about it the more this rubs me the wrong way.

This is like an idiot blowing a job interview, then saying "They never gave me the opportunityy." because they didn't let him do the job. Well, tjhe job interview IS your opportunity to prove you can do the job. If you are CRAP in the interview then YOU are to blame for blowing your own opportunity.

ERNEST! Training camp and Practice were your opportunities, rock-head!!!

    Preseason games = Opportunities!!!

The first few games, when you were active and did nothing = Blown Opportunities!

Maybe what he means is he had REALLY looked forward to the opportunity to CONTINUE proving his uselessness in games, and regrets not having THAT opportunity.

Dumb *** had how many months of training camp and practices, preseason games and early season games and it's the Coaches' fault? Jackass.

The best receivers that fit a Chad Pennington led offense are quick guys who can make moves in the open field after catching the ball 3-5 yards from the L.O.S. and make plays down field.

Imagine if the Phins had Wes Welker still.

Laveranues Coles & Jerricho Cotchery were more possession receivers, which help Chad a lot as well, and thats what Ernest Wilford is, but Wilford isn't anywhere near on the same level as they are.

Yeah, and if you ARE going to get a downfield guy for Chad to throw to, know that he needs to be very tall and a great jumper, because Chad's deep ball is often going to be a high jump ball, not a laser.

Chad needs guys who can WIN those physical jump-ball battles in the air. Andre Johnson would make Chad look great, for example.

Not sure I'm buying it. There was no sense of personal responsibility indicated at all. And "I'm getting my body ready to rock and roll"? Seems to me a flippant way to express a desire to maintain (get into?) football shape.

Watching your progression in this thread from being kind of on the fence and diplomatic about Wilfords comments to all out disgust has been pretty entertaining BP! This last one is priceless.

Imagine if the Jets had pulled off the trade for Randy Moss that the Patriots did. The Jets were talking to Oakland about it too. :pity:

We only get what the writers give us. If we were standing their watching the exchange, we might come away with a different opinion. maybe not.

I'm not saying he didn't earn his place on the bench. I'm just saying that, from reading past articles and seeing the originating videos, it might not be as cut and dry as it seems. Especially when the next comment we get was about not insulting the organization.

He's been quiet all year. Keeping his mouth shut hasn't shielded him from insults and vitriol whenever he leaves the stadium. Damned either way I guess.

Well there certainly isn't any call for that type of stuff.
Those are stupid fans though and you'll find them everywhere and anywhere unfortunately. I don't have any vitriol for him but I certainly don't respect him for his comments at this time.

Didn't get a chance? **** THAT! I still remember when Camarillo (or bizzaro welker as I call him) went down, the next game he was activated and on one of the first plays he came in.. him and Bess were bunched up the the right and he tripped over bess and they both went down.. and the play was destoryed cause of him.

    bleh!
